Re: The Lone Beech Garage Build Thread (60x46)

I'm just curious if there are plans for a safety railing along the steps to the upper room? I'm sure the building codes in Virginia where I live would require this. This looks to be a really great space to work in, I'm sure you will enjoy. I'm building a light sport aircraft, (Van's RV-12) in a 2 car garage and your garage would be like a hanger to me!
Just saw this garage pit on Pinterest and thought of your storm pit. Looks like an interesting addition to what you are building:

I hope the link works!
Lovin' the OSHA approved ladder hopping.
Paint done, one step closer to completion.

Great to see you are able to start to put the garage to good use and I guess you would be starting to get just a little bit keen to move in.
Now that you are getting closer to putting in the lift, I wanted to ask another question. According to your CAD model, you show the lift in the middle bay. It seems to me that it would be better in the end bay on the right. With it on the end, you would have more open space if needed. I know, you have plenty of space, but you can never have too much. In the case of my garage project, which is still a mental exercise, I want the lift close to the work bench and all the other support equipment. Less schlepping around, as you say. I haven't thoroughly examined your bench and equipment layout, so I don't know how that plays into your decision. So where's the question? Oh, yea. What was your rationale for choosing the center bay for the lift?
Scott, very impressive! Will you be handling the cabinet installs in the mezzanine? Feels like you are very close.
Wow I just found this build today and went through it all! Fantastic ingenuity, and the plan really did work out great! You pretty much built my dream shop, the drive through, the second floor, pit, etc is all really cool!

If you can't get a bolt to work, a stainless rad hose clamp may work to fix the noise.
For the Honda,Get the welder!...
The Honda heat shields commonly come loose

Your Lone Beech Garage is really coming along nicely now that the rain has slowed down for you. All that is left is to finish it right. Now that you have a few more of those T5HO's up what are your thoughts on them? Also what is the color/temp. of the bulbs you've decided to use?

Did the electrician mention high bay lights? I have 4 and 6 tube high bay lights and I'm pleased. Mine are for general lighting where it looks like you might be more specific.

Thanks guys! There was some quiet time on the building site this afternoon and I got the del Sol back over the Tornado Shelter again. I encircled the "bad bolt hole" area with a Hose Clamp and tightened it down. This has helped a lot - the two halves of the heat shield are no longer beating against each other - but sometimes there's still a buzzing.
When I was under the car I noticed, even after the clamp was on, that the heat shield on one end of that pipe could move enough to contact the pipe it was shielding. On that end of the pipe, I think I need some sort of material between the heat shield and the pipe so that it always in solid contact with the pipe to keep it from rattling.
Other than that seemingly simple fix, I guess the other options are:
Removing the heat shield or...
Purchasing a new exhaust B-Pipe.
Best regards,
Scott
I noticed you have some doors opening to the out side do you have hinge pins that are non-removable? Another couple questions Why did you decide on wood stairs rather than metal stairs? Have you decided to put your air compressor outside? I have mine inside side with one draw back NOISE I even put rubber feet under it and it helps a lot. I also thought of building a enclosure around it but in my garage being open it still gets really warm around the motor and compressor area. If you put the compressor inside you might think of raising the compressor off the floor about 12" so you can put a pan to catch the drain tank water as I like to drain my tank after each use to prevent rust build up inside the tank.
The shop - garage looks really nice and can't wait to see all the equipment put in it.

Going to need a commercial floor scrubber to get the floors clean.
It may be a service too... but there is such a device. We have one at work. It looks kind of like those things they use to put a new layer of ice on an ice skating rink, but smaller. It puts out some water, scrubs the floor then ***** up the nastiness
There are much smaller ones, not much larger than a big vacuum cleaner, too.
