Since I have a SUV that won't start correctly and an order picker that doesn't work, why not have the motor on the crane hoist stop working. Damn, I got things to do, thumbs to fix! Without the order picker, I was depending on the little crane that usually keeps on, keeping on. Since the reset button didn't reset the hoist, I'm thinking its a trip to HF to buy a replacement.
I pulled the wiring part of the motor off and didn't see much wrong and I didn't have the schematic to really trace anything. For farts and giggles, I decided to put the end cap off. Can I be so lucky? I immediate see that one of the bushings wasn't making contact. I then realized the bushing spring was missing. Looking at the windings, there's the spring magnetized itself to the armature. Got the tweezers, retrieved the spring only to find that the loop on one end broke off.
Of course nobody has an 1/8 x 1/2 inch expansion spring. Drats! While down at a friends , I looked through his stash. There it was a 1/8 x 1 inch spring. Double drats, to long. He says, "Just cut it shorter." Duh!!! I'm blaming my injuries.
As I sit here typing this, I realize I could have bent the last loop up on the existing spring and would be back in business. Sometimes you can't see the forest because of the stupid.
