Well it's been awhile so an update is in order. The leg healed very well. I do have a nice reminder though. Yes that was me in Jaws XI, the only smart one that lived. The thumb is on the mend. Its healed to about 75% but the nail hasn't decided what it's going to do. Doc told me I will lose the nail but I could always glue it back on.

Thank you for the update shorty, a injury like yours will take awhile to mend properly.

Regards

I thought I'd share with you the excellence in engineering that I'm capable of. Some say cheap *** but I think of it as being creative frugality.

Here is the setup I used to get the battery out. It worked great since the battery was removed right? :headscrat

Any accidents that might have happened during battery removal are the sole responsibility of the service cart seen in the background.

Damn HF cart. LOL
Like the engineering there.

Shorty, last September I stubbed my toe with the side effect of tearing the nail loose. First piece of advise is to leave it alone -- it will fall off all by itself when it's ready and you won't feel a thing. It's been 7 months and my nail has grown back although it's a lumpy mess. A few more months and it should be back to looking normal (normal = being tortured and abused for 71 years).

Glad your back at it and healing Shorty.

I guess I really didn't have to worry about you " lifting" my Listas if you come down with Taumac, seeing they weigh in around 400lbs each. I'd be gun shy now if that happened to me.:D

Guys, I have all 10 toes but they get progressively uglier -- the little toes are beyond gnarly and justifiably camera shy.

I'm afraid I'm a pretty poor excuse of a Superman:

Faster than a speeding bullet! (Slower than a 1-legged dog?)
More powerful than a locomotive! (Unable to board a locomotive?)
Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound! (Afraid of falling off tall buildings?)

Hey lusting for Lista (aka Shorty). I don't think you've seen this one.
Not positive it's a Lista, but close enough.

Looks like it might be an Equipo going by the drawer pulls. Here are my three tall cabinets; Equipo, Vidmar, Lista. The plan was to keep the Lista, sell the others. Now, its keep the Vidmar too and sell the Equipo. The Equipo is missing some drawer pulls but is an easy fix.

It's sell this tool cabinet or the Craftsman? I can only think of one person that wants Craftsman tool boxes and he's not allowed to buy anymore. I sell the tool cabinet, I can buy a metal saw, torch set or cheap plasma cutter.

Milking it for all its worth. Ssssssh, I'm also trying to make CB think I'm still not able to move or lift anything.

I've already gotten back to my one step forward, one step back routine. Leg is healed and thumb is very close. I'm down to a band aid and minor pain.

My apologies, I hadn't realized it has been awhile since I've posted any updates.

Oh the pain, the pain!!!! :shocking:

I have actually been getting some QST in at the shop. Not as much as I want, especially with the perfect weather we've been having.

First order of business was to get the "Christine" of a batteries up off the floor. This thing is heavy. Ended up putting the hoist on 2000 lbs. Good thing I was the supervisor. :willy_nil

Since I have a SUV that won't start correctly and an order picker that doesn't work, why not have the motor on the crane hoist stop working. Damn, I got things to do, thumbs to fix! Without the order picker, I was depending on the little crane that usually keeps on, keeping on. Since the reset button didn't reset the hoist, I'm thinking its a trip to HF to buy a replacement.

I pulled the wiring part of the motor off and didn't see much wrong and I didn't have the schematic to really trace anything. For farts and giggles, I decided to put the end cap off. Can I be so lucky? I immediate see that one of the bushings wasn't making contact. I then realized the bushing spring was missing. Looking at the windings, there's the spring magnetized itself to the armature. Got the tweezers, retrieved the spring only to find that the loop on one end broke off.

Of course nobody has an 1/8 x 1/2 inch expansion spring. Drats! While down at a friends , I looked through his stash. There it was a 1/8 x 1 inch spring. Double drats, to long. He says, "Just cut it shorter." Duh!!! I'm blaming my injuries.
As I sit here typing this, I realize I could have bent the last loop up on the existing spring and would be back in business. Sometimes you can't see the forest because of the stupid.

While we are on the F-up stories. Here's another. I brought a mid-90's Benz. Wait the wife brought the Benz, I just get to work on it. I think it has one of those master $300 paint jobs because the clear is peeling and popping off all over.

I decide to break out the DA and sand the clear off after the same friend with spring suggest I use the removable Duplicolor paint. I brought gloss clear and I ended up sanding down to the primer and metal. "Did I do that" in your best Urkel voice. I went ahead and used the clear so it would be protected. Wife wasn't happy. I picked up two cans of the red and applied that. Looks a little better. Once the Tahoe is out of the way and the lift pads are pour, I'll sand the whole car.

This coating is interesting, but it does take a certain spraying method. It sprays a lot better on vertical surfaces than flat horizontal surfaces.

Talking about the Tahoe, time to deal with one half of its ailments, the fuel pump. After the genius of handling the battery, I wasn't looking forward to dropping a fuel tank with 20 gallons of gas in it. My neighbor (with the engine hoist) stopped by and I was telling him about my hesitation. He suggested I cut a hole in the floor. Um? Lets google that. Sure enough someone cut a hole in their Suburban to get to the pump. Well, this is promising.

The Tahoe has 202K miles on it and I don't plan on getting rid of it. Second, I'm lazy, I mean creative. Third, my MaxJax can't assist in the job because I procrastinate, I mean I've been injured.

Here's the scene of the pending excitement. Now where do I cut at? :shocking:

Cuts like butta!

Using the measurements from the YouTube, I marked my cutlines. Another suggestion from the video was to cut down the blade which I did. The guy used a reciprocating saw but I didn't like the idea of electric motor running above a fuel tank. I have an air drill and a body saw so that's what I used. The body saw is my new best friend. I also angled the saw down as much as I could and still cut.

I guess my 16" is longer than the other guys because I was a little long on where I put the hole. :p

I've never fooled with the new snap on A/C and fuel hose connectors. Hey, a reason to buy a new tool right?

On my pump it was very difficult to get the tool into the connector because the connector was so close to the pump housing. Another genius idea was, I'll just cut the plastic fitting. (Saw it on the internet) That worked and I was able to get the pump out even though the access hole wasn't in the best place.

I did run into a problem when I tried to get the male fitting out of the connector. To aid in pulling the fitting out while trying to push the tool into the connector, I ran a long screw into the fitting. With some work, I got both fittings out. I'm not sure if I'm a fan of these connectors, especially on this model fuel pump.

Since no one had the pump assembly in stock and I screwed up the fittings, I have to wait on a pump assembly. In the mean time, I will fab up a reusable access door. I thought about welding the panel back in but I've had enough excitement for this century.

I had a sheet of 26 ga galvanized in stock so I decide to use it because I could hammer/bend it easier than something thicker. I cut the piece big so I could shape it the same has the existing floor.

I couldn't find my little bench top brake, so I used a piece of scrap. (Um, I might have to see if it is at CB's place). Once I formed the center trough, I clamped the piece to the original panel and used the panel as the hammer form. I enjoyed forming my first sheet metal piece. With the right tools and dollies, I could have made it better but it won't be seen and the part fits the bill.

Near trick on the fuel pump replacement, Ill always do something like that before dropping the tank. Thank God for YouTube.

what about using the cut out piece? Build a lip around the edge of the opening, attached to the underside of the floor pan. This would support the cutout. You could use pop rivets and silicone. It's not like you have to remove that much, hopefully.
