thanks for posting that up i had been trying to find a channel but couldn't for the life of me remember who it was toms turbo garage is it some interesting stuff

i don't mind MCM its getting better as it goes more in depth projects i don't need to watch how to install a turbo timer or put in a stupid push button start mods for children that serve no purpose

also another channel im not sure if its been mentioned is (sloppymechanics) some cool builds and i love sleepers goes right along with my 500horse kinga

There is much good info on YouTube, but unfortunately many people who have knowledge but aren't good with presentation or editing. Also some without that much knowledge but that seems to like to talk...

Hi.

A posting here on GJ made me start thinking about building an electric guitar.
Bought a book which was not what I hoped it would be. Described how to buy parts and assemble from ready made neck, body, fretboard etc.

So I went out on utube and WHAM.
Many first class tutorials where skilled and articulate craftsmen showed various aspects of the building from scratch. Many different takes on the same subject. The guy that convinced me was showing how to shape the neck with a hand held belt sander. I decided to try that on a piece of scrap wood and it worked perfectly.
I have spent many hours on youtube to try to get it right.

The guitar I am trying to build would not have even started without the you tube stuff.

+2! He is relatively new to making videos, but I've been watching him for about a month now. I like that he works in a busy pro shop and shows the different jobs that come in. He seems to be making a lot of videos.

I also watch Eric the Car Guy, Elderly Iron (probably my first subscription), and Bad Obsession Motorsport.

I used to have things like Drive and Top Gear, but they only seem to show snippets to get you to buy commercial tv, and are generally overproduced. They make good eye candy but aren't informative, and generally not terribly entertaining anymore (seemingly because they've exhausted all of their fresh ideas).

One of my favorites, too. But in his latest video he says he lost his job at
the Ford dealership. He quit after they told him he was giving out info

Very end of part 2. The machinist learns how difficult the job actually turns out to be("kicked my ***"). Remember at the beginning of part 1, he is careful to explain his opinion of "car guys" and machinists ("they operate machines"...). More than a little hubris to be found there.

In the end, he fails completely to remove the fastener without damaging the manifold. We won't even mention doing this ON THE VEHICLE for flat rate.

The difference is stark and especially when you consider Eric is drilling in the BLOCK of a customer's vehicle to do the same thing.

as far as auto mechanic work:

Eric the Car Guy - decent basic information - not a car guru but everything is pretty accurate that he shows you, nothing I can object to.

Scotty Kilmer - fun to watch because he is outrageous, but do NOT take any advice from this Beavis when it comes to important things like brakes, steering, suspension - it could get you hurt or killed

Paul "Scanner" Danner - is a car guru, especially when it comes to troubleshooting and problem diagnosis, unfortunately many of his youtube videos are not free

Scotty Kilmer does not use jack stands too.Works under cars supported by a floor jack.Said you don't need jack stands when doing an oil change,the car will fall on the tires if the jack goes.Even shows how to fix brake lines using compression fittings which is illegal to do.

I watch a lot of Scotty Kilmer and Eric The Car Guy but aVe has by far the best tool reviews. Unfortunately, he doesn't do as many but when he does, he doesn't just review, he opens them up and shows you the guts and shows you what they're really made of, and hes funny as hell to boot.

I also enjoy Jafromobile, if you're into DIY performance engine building on a budget, you'll pick up quite a few tricks from him, also like aVe, his commentary is pretty entertaining.
