Thanks for stopping in. Go ahead and comment before you know:lol_hitti, makes things interesting. It never stops me:beer:

My shop has been a long haul, but aiming to have it in the order I want, hopefully in 3-4 months.

The belt grinder was a long wanted thing, but it'll come in handy building the other stuff for the shop. What a sickness, huh, buying shop machines to build other shop things. Now I need a bead blast cabinet, and then...........

I would like to set up to play around with some hot irons work someday, really enjoy watching it done.

Craig

3 or 4 months? It's less then a week to my next inspection.

Well, here's the pallet racking painted and ready to set up inside. I'm real happy with how the blue and black looks.

I need to cut some 3/4 plywood and set up. My intent is to have a portion clear for a place to stash my finds until I can sort. It's not half a Home Depot likes nines has planned, but better than the floor. Right now it'll be a place holder for stuff while I'm moving and adjusting for the most recent layout. I only have 8' to the ceiling, so I don't have a lot of room on the upper level.

Thanks for stopping by.

Inspectors are required to physically provide labor of what they think is a good layout, that proves said inspectors qualifications.

When you raised a beer here, that implied agreement.:beer:

You appear to have those qualifications, but we want to make sure your wife isn't behind your Wall of Craftsman, since they don't have tools in them.:bounce:

In matter of fact I've been cleaning that stick on felt off (PIFA) and changing tools into the 10D and pulling stuff into in the bottom 5D. I'm getting them working and rearranging tools around.

Maybe you can shampoo it.

Just pretend your peeling the protective covering off your " new" box

CB: love the color combo on the rack and beams. what color blue is that? did you spray or brush it on? WELL DONE SIR and wishing now i'd painted mine before setting them up.

also just an FYI that you might already know. I use 2 x 4 or 2 x 6's on those racks for shelving and if I have extra plywood to burn I might only use a 2 x 4 or 6 every couple feet and screw plywood on to them. I lose about 3/4 of an inch of shelf space, but I can load that shelf up with over a ton of weight that way and have.

good luck and it's looking better by the minute at your place.

It's not that easy. That top compartment must not have stuck cause it did in the drawers. I was using a heat gun and torch to loosen the adhesive. It was like taking a vinyl wrap off

That came out really well. So I'm guessing your painting everything else in shop those colors?

Thanks Drives,

The color is Ford New Holland blue. It's the Majic brand paint that Tractor Supply sells. I sprayed with a Binks siphon gun.
Krylon has a blue that's a shade darker, which is what I was looking for, but I settled for this and it's easy to get.

I'm using 1X4s and 3/4 ply to make up the 1-1/2" recess. It'll be plenty for what I'm using it for.

I know, I took some off looking for the date stamp. At least the insides will be in good shape paint wise.

Within reason, I think I'll paint all the boxes with this blue and the handles a semi gloss black.

I'll paint some of the shop machines red, like my drill press and I'll have to see on the rest.

Let me know how the 1x4s and plywood works out. I was going to use 2x6s spaced 1.5-2' oc with 7/16" osb decking over the rails.

My son had it set up with 1x4 about 24" on center and 1/2" and 3/4" ply and it was fine.

He had four wheeler engines stacked as tight as your could and it was solid .
Unless your setting forklift loads on it, I'd think you would be fine.

I might look into the OSB myself.

CB: some racks have the ability to have little metal supports going across and the ones I have that do I spaced them about a foot to 18 inches apart and put 3/4 inch pressboard on top and I can't post a picture from this computer, but I had up to 2500 pounds of gym weight plates on those 2 foot deep shelves. osb should be ok and if you want to load it up heavy maybe put 2x4's in about a foot apart instead of 1x4's.

thanks for letting me know the blue because it looks awesome on your racks.

My old 3x12 rack has wire deck i picked up cheap, it was $10 per 4' wide piece. I wish i could get more of that, itll hold lots of weight. The new rack came with enough metal supports (like drives mentioned) for two shelves but not the others.

Had a visitor Sunday. My wife's horse decided to open gate at the back of the shop and come on in. The wife and I were sitting out front chatting and we heard the hoof on concrete sound. Not a big deal except there just a walkway just big enough for me to get through, the horse just came on in, didn't knock anything over.

My shop is the old horse barn!

If she was out when I painted the rack beams, she would of had a blue nose, just has to stick her nose in everything.

The gate is just a friction close in the roll up door opening, been fine for years, time to build a latch.

We just sold the other horse a few months ago and this one gets a little bored.

Here's one of her looking in the back door of the house.

I have a smaller shelf unit that has those metal bars.
The wire is nice, keeps the dust from collecting on the boards.

I can always look at my local used racking store, they may have some.

My racking is only 28" deep, so I don't have as much span to worry about.

CB: you'll probably be just fine with plywood if they are only 28 and on the ones you want to store heavier stuff on just put in 2x6's cut to I think 24.5 inch long and they will hold almost a ton.

loving the horse pictures and wondering why he didn't jump in the pool.

Just the green Lista uh? I guess you won't miss any other Lista cabinets that may or may not not be there.

I see Gerard has been in your shop painting pallet racks. The rack looks really nice. Have you considered your blue with a silver? This will save you time painting your Vidmars and my Listas since handles are silver already. Dust would also blend with the silver better.

I had the same idea for a grinder stand. I currently have two on a quickie two grinder rotating stand. Look forward to what you come up with. If you need me to come down and brainstorm I can do it.

Well back to scope out, I mean review your layout.

I did it Craig. What a great job you've done. Now I feel I can jump in and have a comment. I'll be hanging around to make sure you get all the grief you deserve.:bounce:

I'll say you have a rather large house pet there. Most of us just have a dog or cat. I'm wondering how large the "dog door" is going to be.:headscrat Do you and the wife usually let her roam around the property? Most horses I've been around don't usually try to get in through the back door.:lol_hitti

Anyway, again I'll say great job on all you've accomplished so far. I'll be watching for more of your projects.

Scope out eh?, didn't you see the size of my guard dog?

Come on down and brainstorm, last time I drank a good chunk of a 12 pack trying to fuel the thinking .

i think Gerard is color blind except for red and silver.

Sticking with the black handles, I'll dust every week so they'll look nice:shocking:
Thanks for stopping by.

The horse mainley stays in the barn and pasture. Sometimes just before cutting the grass in the house yard, she'll let the horse up there to graze.

With all the grief my Florida buddies give me, you'll have to squeeze some in when there slacking.
Thanks for reading through, it's been a haul.
I wish I had more photos of the shop while it was being converted from the horse barn.
I was laying out, brainstorming and building up tools before I even knew it was cool. ( found GJ in 2010).
I'll have to see what photos I can dredge up.

Yeah, You mentioned something about me spraying your boxes, and now your probably waiting to see if I get that blast cabinet.:bounce:

Did they have vintage blue and black?

I love to spray paint. Only "training" I've had is when my dad showed me how to lay down a nice final coat to even out and cover overspray, with a spray can. It's something I almost always think about when painting.

Craftsman didn't but believe Hout had that color scheme. I did mention spraying the cabinets but was interested in the paint cause if it worked for you I was thinking I might use the same brand. Somewhat tired of mixed results with rattle cans.

They little bit of a test that I did on the green Lista was from a spray can, it turned out fine.

A couple more additions to the shop. I was just taking about how I wanted to get a blast cabinet. Just did a for the hell of it search on Ebay and I be damn, found one for local pickup in Marathon ( fl keys). Here is the posting photo.

Should only need the glass. I'll need to build a shop vac system for exhaust.
Next up is another Columbian Vise. A CL link was sent to me by another GJ buddy ( read enabler). I thought I was done on vises, but you know how it goes. I don't have it yet as my son picked up for me.
Pretty sure it's a 204-1/2, waiting to hear from him.
What pushed me to get was the pipe jaws, along with some other "forces"

OK, now I need to keep saying. No more buying, get shop done.

In all my excitement with the new toys, I forgot I had ordered a table for the Powermatic band saw I bought two years ago.
560ee4b80fe640dc38820c0ac851854d.jpg

I only paid $178 for the band saw, but didn't have the table. I was going to mount a table saw table to it, but it just wasn't working out well. So I found one in GA. By the time shipping was added in, it cost almost as much as the saw.
But I'll have a functional band saw for $348, so I'm happy. The rest of the saw is in great shape and not wore out. It's just one more thing that will be done and be usable to build projects instead of being one.

Now the big question?
Paint- Blue / black trim, or Red/ black trim?

Not going to paint now, just down the road.

CB: that Columbian combination vise will serve you well and it ain't no little thing. it looks like it farm fresh and not abused other than neglect so should clean up nicely. also nice bunch of other things to get the shop fully functional.

before Taumac chimes in with red and silver might I suggest a different color say a John Deere green and yellow or maybe just a silvery green to go with the awesome blue and black racks.

post more pictures of that cool old grinder stand you made or transformed into one when you get a chance.

only stop buying tools when you don't NEED any or run out of money or room.

cheers

Haven't seen the box yet, but for a $100 don't think I can go wrong.

I paid for it Tuesday , yesterday I stop at a scrap yard and go look around and there's a Trinco blast box, no gun or gloves. In the pile across the road as the filter cans and motor, they wanted $150, a little high I thought. Never fails, buy one and trip on one the next day.
