Craig, looks like great progress! Take a break, celebrate the end of the year and get back at it in January. Happy New Year my friend!
Bob, great to hear from you. Can’t stop now, gotta take advantage of it being slow at work, besides I just want to get the main parts in place so I can figuire out the sea of small stuff!

I‘ll celebrate when the after pictures show a substantial difference from the before pictures. I also have a one year reminder on my phone asking what shape is the shop in now!

Have a Happy New Year!

Moved most of my welding stuff to this wall.
IMG_2206.jpeg
The grey drawer cab has most of my welding stuff, some grinder wheels. The tall grey to the left holds my shields and weld jackets.

In moving my press to new area, which is 9” higher than old shop, i had a little fight with the press castors and it retaliated by throwing the hydraulic power pac onto my back! I got lucky on that one, nothing was broke except the glass on the pressure gauge.

I’ve been passing a Goodwill store near a couple of my job sites for over a year and decided to take a look.

IMG_2276.jpegIMG_2277.jpeg
Well, where did you expect it to end up?
IMG_2278.jpeg
This new to me fully welded steel table got the caster treatment. To the couple of members that harass me about all the casters I buy, this table didn’t sit long before getting wheels!

I’m thinking this will make a good mount for at least three of my 1” belt grinders.
IMG_2362.jpeg
I’ve been accumulating the 1” belt grinders, now it’s time to put to use. Some are quite noisy , so may need a motor or two. Think I have some motors in stock. The straight vertical ones are great little sanders, the center one I brought brand new and the right one was an estate sale find. It was bolted to a bench and the only reason it was still there after arriving later as not one of the other buyers wanted to spend a couple minutes unbolting and unwiring. I love lazy people at sales!

Nice find on the table! You could have called me to help on that press.

I saw a big caster on the road in Naples the other day. It looked good from far but when I looped around the rubber was far from good.
Appreciate the offer, it was just one of those things that day!

Craig, had that table been free it would have been a huge YOU **** but at that price it's still a YOU ****!
196 left.
☹️ I only have about 80.
Damn! You guys count your casters but do those numbers include the ones mounted under something? I have no idea how many I have but almost everything not attached to a wall has wheels on it. And there's a shelf in a workshop cabinet that has the spares/extras.

Thanks for the u ****. It was a lucky find.

Bob, we buy casters in bulk! Over the years we’ve come across listings for quantities of casters and usually make a deal to buy all, generally dropping the cost per caster. It’s nice to have matching casters so cabs match.

Think I’ve only bought casters for a specific use, like the wood bench I’m going to build a steel frame for, some day.

The 200 count in my stock was assumed by a member, I don’t think it’s that many. 150 or so possibly!🤣

Wow, been a while since posting. Done a bit around here but nothing over interesting. Shower remodel in-house.

Picked up a Lista cab at the Flywheelers show, mounted some new casters, did the Cbacres drawer bearing clean and lube and now starting to prep for painting. This will be my cab for lathe/mill bits and such. I have a Kennedy box to set on it.IMG_4184.jpegIMG_4149.jpegIMG_4152.jpegIMG_4150.jpeg

This will replace a medium duty Kennedy cab which my wife will claimed for her tack room.

Here’s one project I worked on in the shop but for the horse barn. When the hurricanes look like their planning on an uninvited visit, we would put up some 2x8s on the openings in the barn. That and 3/4” plywood was getting to be a pain to put up, so I bought some used galvanized shutter.

i mounted top track channel which will stay in place.
for the bottoms, I welded some 4” aluminum channel with 1/4” stainless bolts tapped into them. To install, just drop channel on the top 2 x10 stall wall, welded flanges on ends so I can bolt to the posts.

It takes less than a hour to mount all.

Heres my three month update!
had a few house projects to get done, my favorite, putting down flooring.
Not my favorite project, but this completes the house and wife is happy!

So in the shop I finished modifying an engine stand into a cart to store some plate. This allowed me to get it off the floor and a way to move around if needed. The engine stand is not a typical built one, my Dad and a welder in his shop built it 40 years ago out of structural steel. They are the ones that taught me my overbuilding tendencies.

Getting this done gets stuff off the floor. Now to continue exposing more floor!

I’m on a steel rack roll!
I bought two vertical material racks over the past year or so. I had few ideas of how to set up in shop, One was to connect them back to back, but when I mocked them up, wasn’t crazy about it. Since I had an adequate supply of casters, I decided to build a sub frame for each to mount casters to.

IMG_6952.jpegIMG_6955.jpegUsed 1/4 flat bar and angle for caster frames.
IMG_6957.jpeg

Doing it the easy way!

Done and stocke. Having each with their own casters will add plenty of flexibility as this area of the shop is not finalized. Soon I’ll have most of my steel shapes in one spot.

The 30 gal drum got its caster base mounted, it’ll be my aluminum conduit storage for now.
