CB: that Columbian combination vise will serve you well and it ain't no little thing. it looks like it farm fresh and not abused other than neglect so should clean up nicely. also nice bunch of other things to get the shop fully functional.

before Taumac chimes in with red and silver might I suggest a different color say a John Deere green and yellow or maybe just a silvery green to go with the awesome blue and black racks.

post more pictures of that cool old grinder stand you made or transformed into one when you get a chance.

only stop buying tools when you don't NEED any or run out of money or room.

cheers

Drives, the grinder stand is just mocked up, never had a chance to build. I will post up some photos tonight of the mock up showing my lastest thoughts.

Here's photos of the scrap yard blast box, and some other photos that just about bring tears to your eyes.

Filter can for blast cab. I'm thinking about buying this for mine. It has the motor exhaust fan and I think the filter elements.

Now, get the tissues.

I thought this was pretty neat, it's hand crank.

At least they pulled this stuff aside, it might have a chance to survive. Some of it is just too old though.

The place looks great. That front patio looks like an awesome place to sit back, grill and drink some beer.

I'm guessing you're around LaBelle area?

Syclone, grilling and inspecting the bottom of beer bottles is a main feature there for sure.

I'm in Ft. Myers

Not too far from me. We were down there a while ago at the Edison House. That place has some amazing trees. Keep up the great work.

The scrap yard around here that pays the highest prices won't sell anything to anyone. It always stinks when there is something awesome and you know it is destined to become Chinese steel.

I hate seeing stuff like that going for scrap. I don't get people sometimes. I remember talking to a guy that had a rubbish route and he told me of a customer that buys new living room furniture every three years and throws away the 'old" stuff. He asked her why she didn't sell it or have a yard sale, and she told him she's not into that sort of thing and just wanted it thrown on the dump. Needless to say he took it but it didn't go to the dump.

But seeing the lathe in the scrap pile makes me mad. I want one and would be happy to buy and fix whatever was wrong with it.

I'll ask about it next week if you want. The price he gave me on the cabinet was kinda stiff. But I haven't gone back on forth.

Didn't see for sure what the brand was, I was on the way to a meeting and ran out of time.

It could of been sold for a easy $100 on CL instead of taking to scrap, but a lot of people just want it gone, mainley from estates and just wanting to cash out or don't have time to deal with.

The thing on my mind the whole time was, what did I miss?

The local lift installer always brings his used lifts in to the scrap yard, he cuts them in half so no one will take them for liability reasons. Some of the lifts that I have seen were like new and only needed cables and pulleys. It is amazing what gets scrapped when the prices are high. I remember when it was $350 a ton, everyone with a truck was out scrapping, a good portion of them were crack heads and would scrap things that they had "found". There was always a line of trucks about two blocks long on Monday mornings, I would always look at other trucks to see what they had, sometimes I could buy stuff before it hit the yard, not always.

I give a business card to the neighborhood guys that come through each week but most look confused when im trying to buy junk from them.

The lathe has flat ways, im thinking Atlas. Still worth parts at least, theres no way EVERYTHING on it is worn out or broken.

CB: no hurry on the posting pictures of the grinder bench/table and just when it's convenient.

funny you guys mention the scrap guy coming through your neighborhoods. I used to have 3 to 8 different guys drive down my block about a couple years ago and i'd set out dishwashers, and decent scrap that I didn't have time to or want to mess with. unfortunately I rarely knew which one picked it up as I was gone. I tried to get one of the guy's phone # and he didn't have one.

I don't really have a good scrap yard to go picking as such and probably should search a few out, but I have so much STUFF now I doubt i'd still be married if I grabbed a few tons more before getting more ORGANIZED.

BTW I think I remember you buying a lathe a couple years ago and is that in the barn in Kentucky or Ohio where your shop is or do you have it in Florida? how is it working or is that one of the projects on the TO DO LIST?

cheers and don't let those other Florida guys razz you too hard because you've been doing fantastic this past year with all that you've done.

Tall one is on casters.
I swear the green short ones are almost as heavy. Only a couple less drawers and lots of dividers

Picked up my blast cabinet. Looks like it may be a shop built, not sure, but sturdy cabinet. I need to outfit with a light, flange mounts for the gloves and a little piping for air. Also will need a set up a dust collection system, maybe the shop vac with water bucket set up.

I'm going to use some closed cell foam rubber on the door and the window.

Also going to build a frame on the bottom and set on castors.

I put a frame and casters on mine CB and now it's just a tad high and uncomfortable to use for long periods. Measure first, you may change your mind but I'm short too so there that as well...

I came across a dust collector in the scrap yard I was in last week. I may try to pick up, the can is pretty crushed, thought maybe a I could use the motor and filter assembly.

I'm sure the 3m would be best.

Nines, check out the racking. Hard to see with all the stuff in front.

Looks good! You may be able to use a 30gal metal drum for the can or just beat that one out with a BFH and be done. I made one from a 5 gallon bucket style for mine but a real one would be nice.

I'm 6'1", that's a good thought. I can cut the bottom if needed to compensate.

What do you use for dust collection?

A shop vac and the 5 gallon water bucket method. My bucket sits on the caster frame between the legs on the side(mine is open) and the shop vac hose plugs on it. Only used it a couple times because the shop vac is so loud and I'm working late or too lazy to hook it up.

I am in the process of setting up an older Snap On blasting cabinet. I plan on using a 5hp Shop Vac with a Dust Deputy in between. Will see how that works.

Some of the new blasting cabinets come with vacuum cleaners built from standard 16 gallon oil drums. If you can not beat the old vacuum cleaner into shape you may be able to marry the guts to a couple of oil drums.

Good luck!

Craig, sure ask him. It would have to be scrap price to make it worth it for me though. Even if I drove down to get it, it'd cost an arm and a leg. But then I could get to meet a lot of you guys on the way. Maybe a road trip is in order.

Good one on the boxes. But I'd put my money on Strouty getting them loaded while you weren't looking. He deals with heavy stuff all the time.

The signs wasn't for Strouty, it's for one our the Fl members. :lol_hitti:lol_hitti

Poor Strouty, gets blamed for everything.

Come on down, love to meet up.

That's a hell of a drive.

I'm going to go back this week and get them.

I can replace drums down the road or maybe build one go those cyclone separators that's described on the abrasive sticky. There's a whole science to sandblasting other than just putting air HP to it.:D

CB: isn't it nice to have so many members DROOLING over your STUFF?

didn't you put a Booby trap under the pad in the carport that if anything crosses over it weighing over 300 pounds and not punching in the code automatically drops into the sinkhole you built it on? :D

seriously not hoping or saying you built on a SINKHOLE and just trying to scare of the DROOLERS.

don't you hate that when you go to a sale or in this case a scrap yard and see something that you should have bought and didn't? I hope it's still there and if you can rescue some parts from the lathe for cheap you might want to bring some tools.

cheers and hope you have a great week
