EG: not sure these old clamp style saw vises might work for your needs, but they usually can be found pretty reasonably so might be worth a shot. sorry I don't have a picture handy because it's in my old crashing laptop. maybe somebody else can post up a few pictures or VA's magic search function can find the ones posted if you haven't seen them I think their jaws are maybe 12 inches or at least 10.
JROBB: thinning the herd? nice to see you are still looking in on us.
Crs-I imagine your talking about these? It'd make sense to me that they have to be aligned evenly to spread even load to the casting.
Anyone have a spare?
Watch eBay, a swivel base for that will come along eventually. I found one for a 206 amd that is far more rare.
That was'nt e-bay where you got yours, I believe that used to be mine. I still have the spare lockdowns with the cat paws sitting on my bench after making yours. Have you posted pic's of your 206, if so I missed them. Would enjoy a peek.
Here is a nice baby that a friend has on his desk at work. The copper colored jaws are made from Beryllium Copper and I used a mask when building them.
Please educate me as to why you wore a mask when you made those jaws.
Thanks, John

The dust from grinding and some machining could give you cancer. I know a ToolMaker that worked at Rocky Flats by Golden Colorado that had one lung removed because of the disease.
This is what Wikipedia say's. However, inhalation of dust, mist, or fume containing beryllium can cause a serious lung condition (chronic beryllium disease) Stuff always scared me but it is a great product for springs and wear plates in the machining area.

Joe: i love the patina of baked on BLO. didn't you say it really stinks when you cook BLO or did you find a solution to that?
cool looking vise and if you hadn't already built your own it should go back together. did you happen to take pictures before you took it apart?
VA: i guess you could call all that HAMMERING good exercise. happy to here you fixed it and probably worthy of talking about in the 101 thread. some members and definitely the public don't have a clue that you shouldn't hit a vise with a BFH.
I know I've seen a few posted, but does anyone know the vise that looks a lot like the big bear series, but has pipe jaws? I think it's a Hollands, I think. Maybe Erie. Photo or catalog would be great. Thanks guys!

EG: well I was doing pretty well not wanting to buy Parker so all the Bear talk was just fine and then you ask for pictures of a Holland's which might be one of my favorite makers and CRS posts a picture and I have to have one. i'd gladly pay $60 for a new 6 inch wide jaw Holland's so where do I sign up for that Amazon special.
CRS: thanks for the picture
Joe: just curious after cooking does the baked on BLO still stink? aren't you driving to go see a BIG UN today?

Finally finished my buddy's Emmert 6A. I'll put this one against any I've seen. New spindle, spindle nut, smooth jaws, swivel lock handle, main handle. Everything was integrated beautifully. BLO really tied it all together. Wish I could keep it.I offered the guy the $200 he paid me plus 100 for his labor. Of course the greedy ******* said no!
