So an update on the free Trailer/Cartop tent I got a few weeks ago. I finally had time and decent weather to uncover it (a chore in and of itself, as the original cover is dried, out, has some holes and needs complete replacement.), 2X as I covered it with a tarp as son as I got it home. The tent fabric, the plywood deck its on are all toast.

The "front side" (as seen on the trailer) looks great! If it were all like that, I'd be set!

attachment.php

The pics get steadily worse as you go. the second to last one shows the corner where the wood is completely dry rotted, and non of the wood deck parts are really good. (The wood was completely unsealed...)

Is it reparable? Sort of. It would make the repairs we did on my old Heilite tent trailer fabric look minor in comparison. (I'm not sure you can get iron on patches that big...)

Mattress pads inside are also gone.

So Plan B will be so rebuild the folding deck, reuse the tent support poles as a tarp support, and setup that deck more as a camp table cooking area. The folded deck can be used for more in transit storage...

Even without the tent, this is a great size trailer for what I want it for. small, light, and should tow easily behind my 65HP puddle jumper.

jred10:

Several of the guys at GS looked at it the wrench, but none could decide what it was used for.

Owner heard us talking and he saw I was holding onto it, so he said take it home with you.

So, that's how I ended up with it.

For now, your guess of a tie rod adjuster is better than anything we could guess for it's use.

Mike

Looks like the AmPro tie rod wrench

Some nice finds guys!
TheCody59, what do you mean by Craftsman gearless ratchets? They looked like RHFT's to me? You had some nice stuff with the vintage Craftsman finds!

Other nice finds I noticed were the Wilton 4.5" bullet for $30, the nice looking Baldor grinder, the 2.5" Reed vise and several other items.

I have about 3 posts worth of stuff I found need to get busy!

JFYI Try Big Duck Canvass in Atlanta, Ga. They have all types of canvas if you choose to refurbish the unit............Cranky:3gears:

Ok the first of my recent finds. Canton TX auto swap meet 2 weeks ago.
Baldor 1/2 HP grinder that got dropped breaking the right safety shield, the left lighted eye shield, the base and bending the right shaft noticeably. $30. This one may just be parts.
Craftsman Crown logo drill case $8 and very nice carry box $20

A week ago Friday had slim pickings at first sale picked up this small pile, Snap On pick, some screwdrivers, Britool DBE wrench in BSW sizes, Mac Torx driver, some horse harness stuff and a bucket for a friend, think I paid about $20 for all.

Large Bailey plane at a church sale, $10

Last Sunday I rode with a friend to Baton Rouge so he could pick up some car parts and we stopped at Nine4GMC's place. Nine had cleaned up my 1947 Wilton bullet's main screw hub so I picked that up and he gave me a Kraeuter ratchet and pliers and a Malco adjustable wrench.

So this Friday I went to an estate sale that looked REALLY good. Delta bandsaw, Atlas drill press, old parts store hardware cabinets and some other items. But when I got there found out several items were already "sold" to family members and some of the others wee priced pretty high. Sill found plenty of stuff and spent $90.
Fishing tackle box with a little Citi Service Outboard Oil can and a cool key chain with a mini 1946 Louisiana license plate on it.
Dremel tool that works, stashed inside found the Craftsman punch and several Craftsman router bits, the Jack and Coke bar mat and Coke tray actually came from another sale for $3.
Another vintage Dremel kit without the tool, hinge is stuck LOL. Xcelite tool roll, early Craftsman drill bit sharpener in the box and 3 Sears aluminum C-clamps.
Barrel ********* auger Western Electric Company first aid kit full of vintage Bell telephone bandages for when Jeff Moss cut's his fingers LOL. Porter Ferguson dolly, JH Williams bridge clamp and a Stanley doweling jig.
Vintage Craftsman tool tray missing the handle and some of it's contents, LONG Snap-On 1/2" breaker bar.
SK Wayne toolbox with Craftsman star drill, hog ring pliers, Yankee ratchet screwdriver and another small box with some sockets.
Porter Cable reciprocating saw case with a bunch of brand new blades and a vintage Craftsman drill bit case.

So Saturday I had a choice, school auction, back to estae sale for 50% off day or hit the first day of family run estate sale only 3 blocks away. I chose the nearby sale, Spent $85.

Fulton vise on a stand
Curtin hand crank centrifuge
Various hand tools I still need to sort out, home made anvil made from rail with a plate welded on top, vintage glasses lens wipe box.
Craftsman metric wrench set missing the 15 MM, Craftsman Crown drill bit set and punch and chisel set missing one piece.
Bunch of hammers including a Bonney auto body hammer and a Jorgenson 12" clamp.
Coca Cola tray in terrible shape and a Gillette razor wooden display box that should clean up nice.
Greenfield tap and die sets in wooden boxes, hopefully the missing pieces are in one of the jugs behind them, lots of sorting there to go!

Not pictured 6 pails of powdered Citra-Kleen.

So this was sort of a give and take weekend around here.

We had a Garage Sale 2 weeks ago in poor weather that was poorly attended (Townwide Sale with no Rain-Date). We planned on holding another Sale this weekend but the weather wasn't looking good so we shipped 99% of the stuff off to charity. Some of the other stuff we "merchandised" at the curb and people came and took what they want.

At a local GS I was given a Utica 4" Adjustable wrench that was severely rusted. I put it in Evaporust for 24 hours and with some heat, PBlaster, WD-40 and a hammer got the movable jaw moving again.

We then hit a local bulk pickup a few towns over and picked up some bits and pieces.

Pic #1 is a Proto 10" Adj wrench in vinegar for derusting. I'm getting familiar with all sorts of derusting methods and I didn't have enough Evaporust to cover it. It's in a 30 year old Sears handled plastic storage box I've had forever.

Pic #2 is some Hammer Beverage racks. They used to home deliver 64 oz bottles of soda in these racks.

Pic #3 is 2 Chrome Vanadian 1/2" extensions and the totally cleaned up Utica 4" adjustable.

Pic #4 is the Utica in a small container of Evaporust.

Question - should I filter the Evaporust before putting it back into the container of keep it seperate?

Cheers

Jim

Well, Sat was threating rain, so not much in the way of GS' listed, so off to the swaps! Which weren't that good, for the same reason... But anyway, I found the following for $6 all told:

Herbrand and Proto screwdriver attachments, Proto flex, SK Wayne short extention, Plomb 1/4 socket and Xacto draw knife.
Today, I decided to take a drive and headed to DeNios in Roseville. Where I found the following:

Some shooting books, Proto 1/4 speeder!, Proto center punch and feeler guage, Crafty and Snappy 1/4 ratchet and Proto angle wrench.
Oh, the Snappy is a TM741R and it was $2 WhooHooo!

Picked up this 35ft Imperial Tri-axle car hauler, delivered for $3000. Around here used trailers go for high, near new prices. May not be a steal in your area but around here I feel like I got a good deal.
2 new tires, rest are good. Bearings just packed, all lights and brakes work. Could use some paint. I'm getting a quote on having it sandblasted and painted.

Here's what a new one looks like, looks sharp in my opinion.

Lots of great finds late last week and this weekend! Glad others aren't in a slump like I had this weekend. (Rain on Friday does that but that seems to have cleared off)

Took my youngest back to school after a weekend visit, and two doors down had a bunch of stuff out. I was thinking "yard sale", but it turns out it was all free! (maybe the aftermath of a yard sale? :dunno:

Electric staple gun, (works!) wood box for 2 card decks (Made in Jspan so I'm thinking 60's? :dunno: ), a small "vase" turned from a HARD wood burl (not sure what kind but the ladies were asking if it was fake wood and ceramic...) - this wil become a pen stand on my work desk. some U staples, (not for the stapler I think) and a padded case, we think for a camera lens.

attachment.php

This AM I went out for the few that looked promising and for $2 total the only things I got were a Brass candle stand for 2" candles, and another rattle can pistol grip for painting. (Rustoleum brand marked, no pic this time)

Yes, filter.
Remove as much of the particulates as you can so that they don't further dilute the active chemicals while in storage. This will keep the solution stronger for longer. I've been using the same batch for several years.

I do this with EvapoRust, Simple Green, and CLR. I don't use vinagar, but I'd do it to that as well. Make sure you mark the used bottles as "DIRTY" so that your family aren't using them elsewhere unknowingly.

I don't let it bother me usually because i know most of the time i got deals but nothing too exciting. But when i get brand new sealed vintage craftsman tools, brand new vintage craftsman gearless ratchets, snap-on pliers for less then a few bucks each, matco pliers for 50 cents, and the awesome challenger collection i thought that would definitely get some reply's for sure. I thought it was my best day ever for tool purchases with those two sales combined.

Yes, you overpaid on those Bluepoint electrician's wiring tool.

:) that's partially how I felt lol.
Well my main truck has been a half ton Chevy Silverado for the longest time. I recently picked up a 97 dodge cummins 12v, which is what I pulled this trailer with. It acted like it didn't even know it was back there.
The trailer does ride very rough empty though, which the owner told me before hand. Also he had the title and everything, which seems to be rare with trailers.
It has e-track the full length on both sides for tire straps as well.

Triaxles are rough. I tow one occasionally hauling a skidsteer. That trailer is only 20 feet though.
Glad to see it had all the paperwork. I've had to make up some paperwork for a few of my past trailers.:shocking:
Also if you don't have etrac accessories ETrailer has good prices on it.
