Teen:
The first photo shows the date code following the patent number - 1947.
If you want to date more SO, Google "snap-on date codes" and save an image of the table. There's a few variants to choose from.

Hi all, found this picture on the HAMB and thought you Snap-On guys might find it interesting to see vintage SO in the wild. I don't have any other info about the pic. Enjoy!

So, here's a 1941 F70N. For that date, are the philips head screws replacements? How likely the whole guts were replaced?

I have 2 early 60s factory reconditioned ratchets that have Phillips head screws that were in them when I bought them.

I have seen them with either. This rat looks to good to have been rebuilt.

Thank you.
I've been watching eBay & CL for months (as well as trudging through every flea market I could manage), waiting for one of these from the early 1940s. Just about ready to compromise my goal and buy the one from 1946...Then, boom! - two listed from 1941!
Despite a disgraceful PO initial gouged into the pommel (seller totally upfront - it was described and obvious in the listing photos), if the screws are period correct, I'm satisfied.
Here's a pair of Par-X items I got for a LOT less. The spinner is from 1964, but I can't find a code on the speeder.

This is a 24" 3/4" drive unit. The little detent ball implies that it had a cheater pipe at one time. I doubt I will ever break this tool.

EDIT: After a little research: this is a 20 tooth ratchet wrench made between 1945-1948.

Does Bluepoint count? I have some old Snappy stuff, but am currently working on an old Bluepoint Boxocted X24 from 1929.
Now I need some more!

Nice beefy ratchet!
I think the ball at the end of the handle is to lock into the hole in the ratchet head. Is there a ball on the other end too?

Thank you for asking. I learned some things.
I just took the head off and found that the handle is marked as well.
The head is held on by a detent pin.
The ball would probably work, but not as well.

We were discussing torque wrenches on another forum today, so I snapped this photo.
The two dial style wrenches are made by snap-on.
I know the back one (ft pounds) is 'vintage', but am not sure how old the inch pounder is.

Picked this fella up today. Under a thick coat of rust, I could see "ap-on" but the knurl pattern was unfamiliar. Navy aeronautics spark plug socket, but what era? Is the | under USN a one, and would that be 1941? It's not the usual style of date code. Maybe there isn't a date code on this guy.

If the mark under the USN is a date code, it is 1981, not 1941.

Here's a copy of the date code chart:

It is one inch across the flats. That style logo is usually 40's.

SM: I should have measured it. I saw a couple on eBay, variously claimed to be 1" or 13/16". I should try the drive end, too. Looks 1/2", but maybe not.
Update - yes to both - 1" 12pt, 1/2dr.

A 13 piece Blue Point Whitworth DOE wrench set. These would date 40s and 50s. A very hard set to put together

Yep, dont think there are too many of those sets put together !

18" sliding T, not the clearest strike, cant date it very well.

Just an interesting tidbit. I have a set of blue point supreme doe wrenches from 5/16 to 1 5/8 that was missing a 1 1/4" end due to piecemeal purchases. After 56 years without the 1 1/4 I was looking on Ebay and found a 1 1/4 X 1 7/16. I bought it as it had the 1 1/4 I was looking for but I wondered why in combination with 1 7/16. A look at nut dimensions solved the mystery. 1 1/4 is the size for a 3/4 bolt and 1 7/16 is the size for a 7/8 bolt. There was logic to this combination!!!!

Also, the largest wrench in my set is 1 7/16 X 1 5/8. You guessed it, the 1 7/16 end we know and the 1 5/8 is for a 1" bolt.

I have a KTA - 3 Snap on tote tray that I am trying to date. From the catalogs on Collecting Snap on it looks like it was made in the 1960s. In the stamped nomenclature after the Kenosha, Wisc. there are the numerals 63. Is this the manufacture date? It is just barely readable in the right picture.

Yes, 63 would be 1963

Here's a batch of Snap-on and Bluepoint from a tool box buy today. All of the date stamps are between 1948 and 1965. The ratchet adapter for a breaker bar is the most interesting bit--isn't that called...a ratchet?

Just saw this thread. I also recently posted this Snap On Arbor Press in a separate thread looking for information. Thought it also belongs here.

This one has been rumbling around in my box for quite a while now... it is marked with what looks like a "G" but I wanted to see if anybody can verify. It is 3/8 breaker bar "F-10-HG". No hole in the handle but a place to put a 3/8 ratchet at the end of the handle.

Looks like a G to me.
Nice older bar.
For what it's worth mine has no hole in the handle either.
It is broached for a ratchet or t handle though .

I think I found another date chart than the normal one I see that says "G" is government. Interesting as I think this may have been my grandfather's.

I was wondering if anyone could possibly identify the wrenches in this picture. Believe it or not, this picture (according to the newspaper it was published in) was taken at the Forged Steel Products plant in Newport, PA. The article states they make wrenches, which I don't recall ever seeing referred to before. As a point of reference, this picture is from a 1940 newspaper article.

They made some of the Blue Point wrenches.

many years ago my son borrowed my 12" Vlcek adjustable and it came back the snap on pictured below. This was about 25 years ago. Is there any way of dating it? There is no date stamp on it.

Ah. Finally sourced a Ferret F1 extension for my 1940-1942 No.84B set.
