Picked up this Craftsman Commercial 3/4 hp grinder with stand today for $60. Its all there and works, but one of the tool rests is broken, and the grinder is generally rusty and dirty.

I have been helping a widow sort, clean, price and sell her late husband's diesel and large equipment. LOTS of big Snap On and Matco, Mac and Proto.

This is what she let me take as thanks for helping.

Pic 1: Brand new Blackhawk body file wood holder and two new Blackhawk files to go on it.
Snap On small box with 5 body dollies in it, don't know if these dollies are Snap On or not. The two dollies on the right I found elsewhere while sorting it out.

Pic 2: Snap On 4 way angle wrenches, DBE obstruction wrenches, left hand drill bits in the red pouch, 3/8"D impact swivel sockets, some puller parts, a 1/4 drive handle and a few specialty sockets.

Pic 3: Nitro drill bits, thread files, Plomb WF wrench, socket and extension, Durochrome offset screwdriver, vise swivel lock nut, Petersen C-clamp vise grips, General Hardware Wobbler Center finder, unmarked needle nose pliers, 2 reamers, brass painting stencils, 3 centering punches, Cal Van brass hammer, rotary bit set, Snap On ratchet screwdriver kit, Snap On ben needle nose pliers, Bluepoint pin vise and a Corbin "SESAMEE" combo lock.

Pic 4: The Snap On box had several bushing drivers, the main one being a Snap On A57Q Bushing Remover/Inserter kit on the left, there is most of a vintage Craftsman set on the right, the bottom set is unmarked and the middle set is Cal Van. The Snap On set currently retails for $750, used price is still well over $100. The green object is a Cole hand crank drill press.

Pic 5: Craftsman stuff - frozen 3/8 RHFT, nice working 3/8 flex handle (early 70's?) early raised letter "V" pry bar, router bit with case, screw starter and on the right is an early gasket hole punch set.
On top is a Taiwan impact wobble and extension, the speed handle and sockets are Mustang.

Right you are!
I confirmed it on Alloy Artifacts, about 3/4 of the way down the B-B page. If the listings are chronological, it's from late 50's to early 60's. I'd have guessed it much older. My guess on the plating was wrong, though. It's cadmium, not nickel.

Thanks!

Glad I was able to help!

I don't mean to assume anything, but I wanted to make sure you understand not to put your cadmium wrenches up to a wire wheel as cadmium is highly toxic when airborne.

Great day today. Working in the shop a guy stopped by and sold me three anvils, Fisher 50#, Fisher 70# and a Vulcan 70#. Pd $2 bucks a pound.

Went to a buddy's house and went to his 'metal room' and bought 2.5 OC White lights for $50.00.

Went by the habitat last friday and picked up some find :rocker: Scored this super rad craftsman box for $3 and $4 for the rest of the drivers which are plastic handle plvmb or proto  The craftsman box was hammered pretty hard in its life because it has a reinforced bottom and side straps but it looks really rad and I could see it becoming a nice carry box that I would not have to be really worried about damaging. The outer original latches are broken so if someone has some I would buy them.

Close up of the drivers. Also forgot the score included a 1/4 handle/extension that is nearly mint and 3 extractors, 1 of them being a plvmb. It is really hard to find plastic handle drivers in decent shape, let alone this many of them in 1 spot.

Google "guitar case latch". With a little searching you should find a latch that is a close match for a replacement.

This morning's pick-ups....

20160902_115955_resized_zpsgubych3y.jpg

Unmarked 1/4-inch drive hinged flex head handle. I am going to try to ID it by comparison later. Crosshatched knurling throughout handle, domed end. Likely wartime.
Armstrong 1/4-inch drive model F-51 ratchet. Wartime.
Bonney -ZENEL- model 4098 1/2-inch drive ratchet. Probably NLT 1941.
Walden-Worcester model 916 1/2-inch drive ratchet with push-through drive plug. Very likely 1930's.
Four (4) Bonney CV sockets - A32 (1), D20 (5/8), A19 (19/32), and D18 (9/16) - and a wartime Williams ST-1212 (3/8).
Bonney-made Circle-CV ISN 1727 DOE engrs wrench with the odd B-circle logo and a "WRIGHT" (Aeronautical) model number "80447" stamping. Someone squared the smaller head off with a grinder for more clearance.
The tiny DOE (5/16 x 1/4) with the concave pattern Vitalloy-style shank is a Billings ISN 1020 but has "R and L Tools" forged-in to the flip side. Never seen one before.
The other tiny DOE (11/32 x 9/32) is a wartime R.T.E.C. ignition wrench. I pick them up whenever I see them. Have to check to see if it's a duplicate to what I already have.
Nicholson file cleaner has the file card on the other side, no pick. Probably post-war.
The S-K stubbie looks post-war but I couldn’t resist.
The 6.5-inch combination slip joints are CEE TEE CO ("H2610" forged-in marking).

Went to one sale this morning that advertised tools and wrenches.
All the wrenches were Gedore/India. I passed. The only other tool I looked at was a post hole auger for $5. I decided that I never wanted to manually dig another post hole again, so I left it behind.

The only other sale near me worth checking out is another tool picker I know. I didn't bother going because I already have a good idea what he had for sale.

It's just as well, my wallet doesn't like me right now anyway.

Mac Nice finds! BUT! don't do anything abrasive for cleaning the Berylco pliers! The Beryllium in it (BeCu) is very hazardous. so no wire wheeling, I wouldn't even use a buffing wheel (airborne particles) ...

Mothers alum polish? Maybe; but be very careful with the residue, (use paper towels and dispose of, then clean the area and yourself thoroughly...)

Went to the auction today, didn't buy a lot of tools. These did follow me home along with a bunch of plumbing and electrical supplies.

Greenlee EMT bender, couple of wrenchs just marked USA, a wizard, one Bonney, and a Lectrolite. Matco mag bit driver. Unknown nut driver missing rubber handle, and 2 xcelite drivers. Old strap wrench, oil filter wrenches, and 2 locks. Unmarked possibly imported pry bar. Also got a Stanley USA square for a $1 but I forgot to put it in the pic.

Yeah, Dave *****.

Had another Saturday with SWMBO, sale-ing in the morning and working in her office in the afternoon.

Several private and one town-wide yard sales only turned up a barely used Craftsman circular saw plus two pack of carbide tipped blades for $30 and some garden stuff (not pictured) for SWMBO for another $10.

21b4881cd4057f2b815a4e0aeb8acaf8.jpg

The one estate sale on our way was a little better. SWMBO was digging the vintage '50s decor upstairs and I was digging in the old guy's basement workshop. Here's what I took away for $30 total.

Rockwell Homecraft 4" jointer w/ 1/4 hp GE motor and repurposed New Perfection stand--I've been looking for a jointer for a while, and was glad to find this one for a good price

A bunch of cabinet hardware, including 22 really cool vintage chrome drawer pulls.
Disston D-23 hand saw
A handful of threaded rods and dowels

Box of paint brushes, all sizes.

16" long wood handled screwdriver
Collection of files and handles, some Snap-on

Box of grease fittings
Box of cotter pins
Box of stainless set screws
Box of tiny machine screws
No name manual valve lapping egg beater

Picked up this Matco MD9300 battery tester yesterday from a pawnshop for $25. The vise grips and crescent wrench were $2.50 each.

Found this today at a antiques flea market, it was labeled as an air pressure guage. Listed at $45 but had 20% off everything in the booth. They also have a newer 3/4 drive Snap-on ratchet but at $250 I was a lot more reluctant.

Set also came with an older blue-point valve core tool.

I like that tool board!

Went out and hit an auction, couple garage sales and a resell shop. So got a bit of variety today.

2 shelf brackets, Blackhawk and Stanley nut drivers, Upson specialty driver & 1/4" bit handle, Powrkraft Phillips, NOS USA vise grips, NOS USA Vermont American torx drivers (dated 1991...25 years ago...91 does not seem like it was that long ago geesh!) Fuller Squeegee, and a nifty Electricians Utility Tool. $18

Also got this interesting little kit my Step-Dad bought for me at a garage sale. We both were looking at it but he pulled the trigger first and then gave it to me. I owe him one for it! Old Crescent wrench replacement parts. Has a decent amount of them left. They seem pretty old by the prices listed (parts range from 6 cents to $1.05) and the logo on the box. It's pretty cool.

Just cleaned up the little Filson wrench and :wtf:.

The letter S is backwards in the name and in U.S.A. Hadn't noticed through the grease.

RP, Nice finds! USUC price! That punch box looks pristine!

Reminder (in case you don't know) that motor controller cannot be used on just any motor; and verify the AMPCO hammer is not BeCu before cleaning it up. If aluminum bronze you are fine with most methods...
