Duker, I would like to see that trip. :lol_hitti, it would be a long one as Gerard would be reaaranging the truck along the way.

Shorty, show up your buffer that I enabled you to buy.

I found a bandsaw for Shorty near me and we went to pick it up. Shorty then proceeds to buy a whole SUV load from the guy, I'm surprised he didn't try to buy the guys wife:lol_hitti.

Shorty is very well on the way to buy, buy, buy.

Duker, that is a nice one though.

I saw this on EBay and thought Shorty needed this to polish up all those projects! http://tinyurl.com/h76lkw4

I figured he could road trip with Gerard!

Thanks for stopping in Duker! As Craig mentioned, I did get a similar buffer on my last road trip. What I really need is a welding table. I'd even settle for a used red mobile welding table. Houston is a straight shot down I-10. If I bring Gerard, I'd have to stop in NO and show him the ways of Bourbon Street. Let me know when the welder and tools are removed and I'll pick it up.

SHORTY, you better bid on the damn buffer. It's just 30 to 45 south of my house. If you win I'll go and get it and keep it at my place until you can get here to pick it up. That eBay one puts yours to shame. BUY, BUY, BUY....

I forgot about those purchases....nice call on the score for Shorty CB... you must be on Shorty's wife $#it list after that haul! Lol. I remember seeing the pics of the car loaded with not an inch to spare!

And Shorty...As for the mobile welding table I might be able to make you a deal... of course if I were to get rid of it the guys at the local welding store won't know what to call me... whenever I walk in it's... hey look it's the "dude" with the welding table.... I have already built my next fab table in my head for whenever I get my new shop. Not to throw a curve in here but I hopefully sign a contract next week and begin sometime in November.

Gerard, just throw the twelve pack in the car and tell him you will help him finish the lift and any other projects.... right after you paint....:)

On J Diesel's note, the latest saga of the lift. A friend stopped by Saturday to replace the brakes on his car. Whoopie, I have a job for the lift. Get the car staged, arms placed and up we go. On the left post, I noticed a leak. Oh fart! We decided to proceed. After he got the tire off along with the caliper, I noticed the right side of the car has dropped down. Uh? I jump on the pump and lifted the car back up. So we could SAFELY finish the brake job, HF came to the rescue. I placed two jack stands under the arms as lift locks, we got the brake job finished and the car down safely.
Of course I'm frustrated with the lift (or my installation skills). I wasn't in the mood to fool with it so I worked on other projects. I'm hoping it is just a hose fitting and not the cylinder. I will investigate Friday.

For the time being, let's dwell on something different. I've decided to try selling the mega metal AV cart (with all terrain wheels) at the upcoming swap meet. It's too big for a welding cart and to cut it down will be a lot of work.
I've moved the welder to the plastic AV cart and I think this will work better. The cabinet underneath will fit my helmet and other supplies. I still need to do some minor mods but for now, it's a functioning cart.

Doesn't the lift have safety locks that you lower it onto so it can't leak down?

Well Shorty. It appears that I do indeed need to come down there and get your lift straightened out.:lol_hitti:willy_nil:dunno: So when you asked me to please come down and help, you were being sarcastic and now it's come back to bite you in the ***.

Sorry to hear about the problem. It'll probably be as simple as a lose fitting.( I hope)

Yes it does. Since I had the leak I only lifted the car high enough to get the wheels off the car. The jack stands ended up being my temp safety locks.

Thanks for stopping in.

Dan! Dan!
Dan are you there! Oh there you are. :hellobye: Lyndon, he's over here (taking a nap).

I guess you are going to have to make a special trip down here. The enablers have taught me to be distracted by tool sales so I haven't spent time on the lift leak yet.

Ok where was I.
After the lift failure, I decided to transfer plumbing tools over to the freshly PAINTED Craftsman box. Plenty of room. I found some plastic backed foam from somewhere so used a small piece to line the bottom. A label at each end and in the cabinet it went. Done!

As mentioned earlier, the enablers have taught me that it is better to go to a tool sale (estate) than to work so this past Thursday I went on a road trip to Valdosta, Ga. :lol_hitti

The gentleman had some interesting stuff. The work shed was a two room affair, probably 15 x 25. He also had another building about the same size that was his collection & sales room. Here are a few pictures of some of the items he had. The room in back was his collection. There were antiques lanterns, torches, heaters, toasters, wrenches and hand planes among the items. A lot if these items were priced with a description. Don L., you would have probably picked up a few items.
He even a twin to the Balkamp stool that Craig picked up for me a few months back. Luckily the lettering on mine is in better shape.

I'm not sure what this gentleman did in his shop but it must have been serious work. He had a huge chain fall and a gantry and this compressor. I like his way of thinking, the big motor goes out, just place another compressor on top and plumb together.
He had a nice Royal floor DP with a serious price. Some of the big equipment items they were rather proud of.

So what did I end up with? A lighter wallet.

A mixed lot. Probably one of the best items picked up are the two wire brushes. These actually have some metal in them. Tin snips cut a piece of paper so figured they were good. The air rivet gun works but is missing the tip. I didn't think to look and discovered when testing it.

Since I'm all about safety now, the best purchase was the First Aid box (in back). :lol_hitti

I took a chance on the pneumatic actuators and they all work. I'll probably keep one and sell the other two.

A close up of the little vise with the standard size dikes as reference.

Since the dikes were Klein, I decided to clean them up and put them in the main tool box. A quick run over with the wire wheel and then the EXL wheel and they look pretty good. The same pair is above with the vise.

Now if I can get that bench top to look as good.

Today was a bunch of different small projects. While in Valdosta I came across a really nice hardware store downtown. They had the blade I needed for the bandsaw so I got it. While installing and tuning it, one of the cast guides broke. I think I'm changing the name of my thread to Short on Luck Shed.

Friday, I did some honey do's, one was cleaning of the terrace I built a few pages back. I still haven't finished the planned bench so yesterday I picked up some lumber and today I cut it to size.
While I had the table saw out and a scrap piece of aluminum near by, I made a quickie rear cover. I even used the new tin snips. The current dust collection needs works but is better than nothing. Down the road, the saw will be part of a saw/router bench.

Great finds! Short luck on the band saw guide. I suppose it is pot metal? There ought to be a repair for that. I've seen guys groove out and solder pot metal but I've never done it. Or can you buy a replacement piece?

Another project I worked on was testing some old Evapo-Rust I had. I put some of the tools I got Thursday in a pan, pour in some of the Evapo-Rust and let it sit for about 30 minutes. It wasn't that deep since I was just messing around. Comparing the picture above (post 746) to this one, the solution works pretty good. Biggest change was with the drill guide.
It didn't work well on the plated items (vise grip and frame of pipe cutter). Since Evapo-Rust is reusable, I used a paper towel to filter the solution back into the jug.

Last but not least, I got the fuel hoses replaced on the Valkyrie and the air box back on. Who thought it was a good idea to put six carbs on a motorcycle? I don't know but I like it even if it is more work.
:3gears:

These task and few others meant a rewarding but tiring day. I guess I'll go to work tomorrow so I can get some rest.

p.s. A friend and a couple of his buddies came to town to attend the FSU/NC game. (no comments from the peanut gallery) One of the guys is a sales rep for a service uniform company and gave me this container of wipes in appreciation for letting them spend the night. I tried one out and it worked really well. One side is gritty for scrubbing and the other is smooth for wiping. And they smell pretty too.

Who needs a lift when you can get new toys, I mean tools. :lol_hitti

Yes it is pot metal. Maybe I can try JB Weld. I don't think it would be that hard to make one. I have saws and welder or a friend close by has a mill and a lathe.

Saturday I decided to focus on getting the Valkyrie finished and on the road. All that was left was to put the air filter in, gas tank on, hookup a couple of hoses and put the battery in. Done. Put the key in, hit the start button and she cranks and purrs like a kitten. Um what's this? Dag-nab-it, leaks like a sieve.

Now the question is, do I take it back to the mechanic who rebuilt the carbs or park it for the future project I have planned for bike :headscrat. I have plenty of other projects like a leaky lift to fix.

New name for the Shorty's Shed is Sad Saks Shed of Seeping Fluids.

Shorty, as long as you aren't one of the things leaking fluid the in your shop, and the beers dont leak in the fridge, life is good!:lol_hitti:beer:

Since the bike "repair" went no where, what can I work on? As noted a little earlier, part of my tool haul was a conduit bender. With a new pipe handle installed, I decided to scrap the idea of a fabulous flawed factory looking, fabbed generator handle for something simpler. Keep it simple right?

Second effort works great! I will probably trim the ends a little so there's nothing to snag on.
