Grabbed a Proto Challenger and and almost complete SK set today.
And 2 Cman locking pliers, never been used.

Brian

Man, I can hardly set foot in a flea market without running across those SK ¼" drivers. Now I see they've probably been orphaned from those kits, while the sockets go loose into mixed boxes and buckets.

Went to a small local flea market this AM, I'm still grinning. After going to a flea last week and only finding 1 item, a grinder, and hitting 5 or 6 yard sales yesterday with zero finds, today more than made up for it. Started with the Desmond Simples 5-1/4" swivel vise for $50. Then the cool little Hallowell tool kit that I wouldn't have bought, other than it was in the original box with the paperwork, missing the 3/8" socket though. I'll make a more in depth post on this in the vintage tool forum. Next pic - file $1., new Stanley chisel $1., egg beater $2., 2 steel brackets and brass wire wheel $2., and ext. cord I'm going to use to repair a machine 50 cents.
Next up is a Colton patent vise, repaired, $5., other clamp on vise, decal seems to say "Polar" or "Solar" on the side, pretty minty, $8., new in pkg Powerball marked $24.99, paid $1., reamer, diamond hone, sharpening stone, and some carbide inserts, $3. for all, and a Starrett center head for $1.
Last pic, 6 pack of Valvoline 10W40 oil $10., 2 ball valves, $1. ea, new zone valve cartridge $5., Vise Grips $1., Atlas Craftsman rotary table handle, 25 pack of 1/2-13 nuts, 50 cents, Lenox saw $1. and after I paid him he gave me the other hack saw for free. Really great day.

The DOE's (FairmounT 731A and Barcalo 28S) are jeep toolkit tools, as is the Noera 1-pint oiler (sits in a bracket on the firewall under the hood).

The sockets had a lot of box rot.
Wartime NONE BETTER T1236 1-1/8 12 point
Wartime underline geometric Craftsman logo BE 11/16 12 point
The Indestro -Super- 1-1/8 6-point is interesting. Does not look chrome-plated to me. The line came out in 1945.
The WRIGHT S340 1-1/4 impact socket is 3/4-drive and it has a nice “43+” marking. It needs some dressing.

The composite hammer is a double underline CRAFTSMAN. The “=REG. T.M.=“ marking on the head is NET 1946, and I am thinking 1950’s or even later.

Well, here are my Friday find (combination of an estate sale and a "antique" dealer:

PLomb socket spinner, Stanley brace bit, Wiss snips, Antique fish scale, forcing screw, Penncraft plane (Stanley made)

Millers Falls carving set, Brinks and Cotton clamp, misc. caliper case - empty but I had something to fill it.

vintage soldering iron and misc hardware.
About $30 for all that, the fish scale wasn't cheap.

Saturdays haul -flea market, and two salvage places:

Goodel Pratt calipers, General micro screwdrivers, Blue Point driver, Apex extension with 5/16 impact bit.

Pexto chisel, Fulton chisel, Proto/Plomb dual marked 1 1/16 combo, Proto LA 3/4 drive sockets.

MAC punch, Craftsman brace bit, Starrett scribe, fuse puller, Stanley coping saw.

saw vise missing the clamp, but that is where they always fail anyway.
$32 for all that. I really need to start packing though, as it is getting thick in the garage.

CL ads were keeping me busy this weekend. The first item is something I've been on the hunt for all week. A decent gas powered edger. I prefer a Craftsman brand and this is the time of year to buy as everyone sells off before winter. It will need a carb cleaning and some minor TLC but did start and run. No more manual edging my driveway with a flat blade shovel.

Next was this cool old Coleman mini-fridge cooler. It has a separate large bin for ice and multiple trays to use as shelves. I really like that you can stand it upright and use the shelves to store your food or lay it down like a regular cooler. Surprisingly it has all its accessories and seals good. I look forward to traveling with this.

Found an estate sale late thur, had a ton of snap-on tools including 2 larger tool boxes that I was really interested in, I went that day but they had everything marked at nearly retail truck prices. Said everything went 25% off fri and 50% off sat. So I tried to be back first thing sat morning, but ended up being about 2 hours late or so. Still alot of stuff but even at 50% off everything was still going for over ebay prices. They had whole sets of wrenches individually priced and impact sets priced at nearly $500 a set(granted it was a larger set). I bought what I though was a decent deal and tried to make offers on other things but they refused offers on the snap-on stuff so ohh well.

I did spend about $300 total so not killing it but not bad either.

The hand box was mine already so ignore that. The wiha screwdrivers were dirt cheap, and as much as everyone talks about them I thought why not try them. Nothing to lose. They kinda screwed me on the 1/4 sets as they are not complete and they put some other sockets on there to fill the empty spots. I didn't notice till I was home as was kinda ticked but its my fault for not looking closely. They did fill the spots with snap-on sockets but I got a 9mm deep with my sae set now and 2 1/4 shorts. The blue point deadblow litterally fell apart when I put it in my trunk but I 'll talk to my snap-on guy to see what can be done. (If you want to flame me go ahead, but I buy these to use and have a warranty to beable to use). The slide hammer was cheap, but came with no attachments but I'll get a set at some point. The sending unit crowsfoot was unique and I will be putting it to use from now on as mu socket is way to deep. The spring compressor was one of those deals where I could have gotten another brand brandnew for the same price but got snap-on warranty so it made it worth it in my eyes. And I just really liked the matco box...lol

Does anyone here know what causes most of the deadblow hammers to turn white and fragile over time? I've seen this happen with most brands and never learned what causes it-

Finally, picked up a 103.27270 Craftsman cabinet saw. It's the only one I've come across in the wild. I first came across it back in the beginning of Aug while looking at a drill press and bandsaw for some friends, he had it set up and was using. At the time he told me $400 wouldn't touch it, way too much for me.

Well, out of the blue I received a text asking for my best offer, of course this comes after buying a new welder. I didn't let it get away, Luckily I was able to sell a vise to a welder friend for funds to cover the saw.

Anyway, here it is, I believe it's a 1953 model, I even got the original manual with it and I'll scan it when I get a chance if anyone needs.

It has a 1 HP Baldor motor, I'll be searching for a 1.5 HP CM motor.

Everything works good on it, top has been kept well waxed. I love the blade rise and tilt wheels, just so solid.

This thing must weigh around 200 lbs, it's a beast.

WOW! Beautiful Saw. Even though I don't dabble much in the woodworking stuff I can see that that is a nice piece.

And I don't care what you paid - You ****.

Nice saw cbacres!

I have an old Beaver table saw I can't wait to be able to use, it's parked at my Mom's house right now (where it's been for 50+ years, it was my grandfathers) I have no room for it in my current garage so my portable Ridgid does the job for now, somewhat.

I paid $200, never have come across one down here and it was in use damn near right up to when I picked up.

Thanks, can't beat the old iron.

Very nice saw. I like the Exacti-cut. I think they later changed it to a plastic circle you marked with a pencil, but that is so cool. It's probably on the higher side of 200 lbs.

I also like the Exacti-cut, never seen it before. I think your right about 200 lbs, it's all about I can do to get it tilted back on a hand truck. Mt electric hoist came in real nice.

ALL: so what is it about any old steel STUFF? i stop at a garage sale that looks like it's all baby clothes and ask the guy if he's selling any tools. he points to a small pile with an axe head, wedge, a wedge with a sort of hammer for splitting wood and this huge drill (1.5 or 2 inch). how much? $20 he says. i'm thinking do i really NEED it and think not but say $15 and he agrees. i usually don't mention my pricing because it really doesn't have anything to do with value, but i do like negotiating deals even on stuff i probably don't even need.

I just gave some free wood to a friend that i'm sure is going to ask to borrow some of my wedges to split it soon and this will be her gift. and i'll keep the cool looking drill and maybe make some old school wood something.

Drives. That "cool old drill" is more correctly called an "auger" . They are commonly used by traditional shipwrights. I have a couple but they are just for show.
