Didn't go saleing yesterday but couldn't resist 1/2 off day. First stop was aqquick stop with no tools left. But not to be beaten I found a couple of things to buy. Ohaus triple beam balance. $5 "as is" Jammed up he said. So for $2.50 I removed the collar used to lock it for shipping etc. Works perfectly.

Bulova pocket watch. Not working but for another $2.50 it is worth dropping off at the watch repair. Forgot to get a picture but also got an older Nikon camera with lenses and a couple of filters for $10. Then to the next sale that had tools but mostly high price even at half off.

But as you see I found some deals. Ended up packaging this group for $15. Couldn't believe the Snappy screwdriver was still there even at original price. The ratchet is Williams superratchet s-51. The knives are Case and Colonial, both American made. The engraver I just threw in on a whim.

Good stuff Rick!

Craptain, you scored!

Sorry for the repost if you've seen my flood thread but for those that haven't, Merc got me out of the house Saturday to hit up the state auction. There was a garage sale I wanted to stop by on the way, even though it had started earlier that morning. We dropped by the GS and apparently at just the right time. I got a small box of counter sink bits, couple reamers and Merc handed me a set of good ol Williams deep offset DBE wrenches he picked from a pile. The two nice ladies running the sale were having trouble removing a small craftsman vise from an old work bench so I cut the rusted, painted bolts off for them. While I was doing that, Merc was chatting them up and they offered a literal truck load of hardware, old boxes and tools for free. I ended up spending $5 and Merc not much more then that and we left with his truck bed filled!
Unfortunately we were a little late for the beginning of the auction so we missed out on some really cool cabinets but it wasn't a total loss, in fact, it was the best auction so far this year! I scored another Delta Rockwell 20" band saw, second one this year but this one has the metal cutting option and cutting fluid attachment for $250 plus fees!!!! Merc was on his p's and q's too and scored not one but two 14" wood/metal Delta Rockwell band saws for an unbelievable deal as well!

I'll post pics of the saws when we pick them up later this week, this is all I have for now.

I picked up all these upper and lower commercial grade locking cabinets from an auction place for $100. There were three pallets of them and they didn't sell. I used what I could and sold the remaining ones for $100. So all in all I got the cabinets for free and some labor to hang them.

Wow, incredibly nice, and I personally love deals that end up being "free" after some re-sale--that's my aim on every estate sale pick.

Doorfx: welcome to GJ and those cabinets look a helluva a lot better on your wall than on a pallet. WELL DONE

DaveF: my neighbor has a Jet bandsaw and it cut a piece of aluminum track for a stair lift i installed in my parent's home like it was butter. I also helped him make a welding bench and his Jet cut some 3x3 steel 1/4 inch square tubing no problem. if yours is working ok you did very well especially if you have a use for it.

Flea market today, was disappointing, but I was able to scrounge this bit. One Mac socket, one Indestro, 2 Williams and a few SK along with a bunch of Bonney. Billings and Bonney DBEs, unmarked tee bar, 3 dies, and a New Britain oil filter wrench

You should have seen us getting that big one off the trailer, I tweaked my back and Merc got a nice welp pinched on his forearm but from the way he cried, you would have thought someone kicked him in the ******.

Picked up a few license plates in Skopje on Saturday - Switzerland, Slovenia, Germany. If anyone has a cool plate to trade, I would let go of one of the Slovenian plates.

Also picked up another piece of "luggage" -- the green ammo crate. I had bought too much this week at the bazaar and flea market so I needed something to bring it home in. Set me back $20, but I'm not complaining -- it's a cool box, lots of character, used to hold 20mm ammo.

Look what I picked up on my way home from work.
Craftsman 283.18060 compressor. I cleaned her up with simple green and put on a new cord. She purrs but I need to figure out where the oil is supposed to go. Seller wanted $65 and I ended up getting it for $50. I had to have it.

NINES: good to see you are getting back into your old routine and finding some cool stuff. i'm still hoping your house and garage/shop survive the flood and from all the work i've seen you do you should be proud. amazing turn around after having a couple feet of water inside that is for certain. keep up the great work and progress.:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

speaking of which did you set one of those big bandsaws on a seagull with all those feathers sitting next to it? that's my take. :D

Great finds everyone!

Nines- I believe Drives said it best. Good to hear!

Doorfx Nice looking cabinets.

I have been slacking in posting in the thread lately but I attended an insane estate sale last week of a tool collector that was moving and selling it all! What a great sale.

Here are my finds from the big tool sale. Reposting this from elsewhere, sorry if you seen it already.

Pic 1: I'll start with the first thing that caught my eye. 4" adjustables. They were near the register on the way in the front door. I saw a guy with a fist full of these and I scooped up the rest.

Craftsman, S-K Wayne, Crescent, Crescent, Williams, Williams.

Pic2-3:
Duro Chrome 3/4" drive ratchet head. Never ran across one before.
Proto 3/4-1/2 adapter
Williams 1/2 plug
Snap On handle for the ratchet
Matco Metric flare nut crowfoot set

Pic 4:
Misc. Williams refrigeration set with a 3/8 ratchet, offset screwdriver, Armstrong bit

Pic 5: Craftsman BE 3/8 Breaker bar and sockets

Gosh dog 3bay, you are killing it out there!!

Drives, no seagull, that's a pile of fur from shaving my dog earlier.

I mentioned picking up a few Williams wrenches and things from the sale Sat, here they are.
Img_2532.jpg

The box on top was at the same garage sale, they were going to throw it away. :shocking: Needless to say I grabbed it up for free. The bottom box was also free but it came from my stepfather along with a tote full of random small tools last week. Him and Mom were cleaning out things they no longer use and she brought it all over to me.

Wood Outlaw, looks home made but I haven't had a chance to check it out good yet. I saw it sitting there with the drawers out and inquired about it, the lady said she had to pry the drawers open to get the tools out and was going to throw it away, I immediately asked if I could have it. You should see the truckload Merc ended up with, there was buckets and boxes of all kinds of rusty goods!

btw, I'm not back in the land of living yet, just visiting... Lots of work left around here but I was starting to go crazy here with no ride and living in shambles so I had to break out for a minute of relaxation and junk browsing. I've come to the conclusion that I can't possibly finish this place without a break every now and then so hopefully I will be participating more around here like before.

Hit several sales, only one yielded anything good, but for $10 I was happy.

That's a big *** Harford clamp, a 6" USA C clamp,
and 3 1/2" ratchets, RHFT, Proto that needs some attention and a Penncraft with some chrome loss.

Brian

NINES: funny about your dog's hair clippings and was sure they were feathers. :bounce:

I had to gut a 5 year old remodeled bathroom in my house a few years ago and it took a couple months before we were back to normal. had a small crack in the tile barely big enough to get a razor blade in that let water get in the subfloor and black mold everywhere so bad that everybody was having breathing issues.

you having to do an entire house and garage i truly sympathize with you and happy to see you are getting at it so quickly and very professionally so you and your family can move back in and live a bit more normally again. also hope the neighbors can get their places cleaned up quick too cause the side effects of water sitting on or in wood in enclosed areas has all kinds of bad issues.

BEST OF LUCK and KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK.

also get Merc to post his trailer full of STUFF cause that sale you got the bandsaws from looks like my (our) kind of vintage items.

cheers

Picked up this craftsman box from an antique store for $10. I think it's going to clean up nice.

I always have my eyes open for unusual items and this one fit the bill:

This wrench turned up recently on my local Craigslist in a listing with a bunch of other tools. Turned out to be a model W153 (8 inch) adjustable wrench made by Berylco. It is really exquisite shape, especially given the fact that is it made out of BeCu (Beryllium Copper alloy which is roughly 98% copper and 2% beryllium). BeCu tools are designed for use in a number of environments where the use of ferrous metal tools could be dangerous: potentially explosive environments, cryogenic environments, corrosive environments, and for the service of equipment sensitive to magnetism (such as an MRI machine). And aside from that, there is just something really cool about owning a copper adjustable wrench. ;)

On my way to pick up a new Honda motor for my Deere 420 I stopped by a couple pawn shops. Picked up this Craftsman grinder. It had no price on it but I'm glad I waited around to talk to the clerk. It has all the guards and runs like it should. Now I have a decision, to keep and sell my Delta one or sell it. Oh yeah 30$ out the door.

JW: that should clean up nicely and that is a great 1/2 HP grinder. should look great alongside the Craftsman vise you spiffed up too.

SD: love the copper beryllium wrench. just an FYI to you and everybody that you don't want to grind on a tool or anything made of that material because the dust is toxic and might have killed a few golf pros and clubmakers i know among others.

I have a couple of those as well. Found them in a pawn shop.

Pretty sure the U.S. Lite-Ray No. SGA 43-27 Spit and Gaff Hook, in original container, with original instructions, is wartime. The basic apparatus was patented (2,490,583) in 1949, but it was applied for in 1944, this one doesn’t have the patent or a patent pending mark on it, and they were apparently put into one of the pockets of the USAAF C-1 survival kit vest. Not my thing, but couldn't leave it behind. The pieces are either sheradized or galvanized.

SilverDeck,

If you want to do a quick comparison, note the 8-inch Diamalloy adjustable (1942-45 production). Your BeCu Berylco, minus the 9/16" box end broached into the hanging hole, does appear to be Diamond-made.

Pic 3- shoe box full of mostly Matco and Mac impacts, a few others in there.

Pic 4- Matco 1/2 metric impact set, Mac 3/8 chrome deep metric set, Craftsman 1/2 Metric impact set, misc. screwdrivers- Matco,Mac,Par x, Craftsman ratcheting screwdriver. Blackhawk 3/8 breaker slipped in there.

Old hatchet- unidentified. Greenlee gouge.

Pic 5- S-K NOS SAE combo wrench set

Pic 6 -FACOM NOS SAE combo wrench set

Pic 7 -Craftsman pro large SAE wrench set. I doubt these were used either.

Koken 3/4" Drive Metric Set. This was an unusual find.

All 1/2" Drive ratchets and breaker bars. Some old time ratchets. 3/4 Wright bar. Most are good working. A few are parts pieces.

Also found the original Duro Chrome handle to the 3/4 drive head. The lock button is missing unfortunately.
