dude! that is an excelent job of alley lane block top on that box.
and a nice set of vises ya got, but please dont drill into that box.
part of me says dont **** it up cause its only orig once.
but a little part of me says its only from the 80s and its fair game to modify.

Thanks,
I'm struggling with the issue of modifying it or not.
I could make a frame that encases the whole box, but that is a pretty good sized project in it's self.
Still thinking.

That's awesome. I've never seen one before. I bet he gets close to that $200. If I was local, I'd make an offer.

Well,I had bigs plans for a convoluted, complicated, labor intensive way to mount a few vises, but I got out to the shop this morning and lazy got the best of me.
6 holes, a couple backing plates and a hour later, two vises mounted.

Hi Royce, thanks for sharing those photos. That tall skinny vise is a fun one. It looks like you have installed bowling alley maple as the box top. I have some of that as well, but it has separated at the seams a little and is missing the finish. I find it very tedious to mill because it is full of hard old nails. Nice stuff to have around though. Good looking box.

Can anybody narrow down for me a year range when Sears used the badge like Royce has on his (very fine) toolbox? I'm trying to narrow down the era of a 6500 I just picked up on eBay. Assume late '70's to late '80's?

Tool_Master, that is a cool box. I think it is a Frankenstein box, but it is still cool and I'd buy it for the price you are getting it for. I just question the use of two different Craftsman logos. I've never seen the heritage logo used with the 60's era badge and never with that type of drawer pull. Anyway, congrats on the purchase as it is still cool as can be!

Re: Odd craftsman roll cab

I just got this craftsman box, it has 7 drawers and 1 cabinet in the front and 2 cabinets in the back.

Researching, I've only found 1 similar, made by Proto.

Anybody have one and or a catalog page?

What vintage is it?

Seems like it is going to make a fine mobil work bench.

Thanks for any insight.

Royce

He logo tells me it's a late 70s - early 80s box. Very cool box!

Toolmaster, I think that might be a shop made/homemade or at least it the bottom has been added on to. The two emblems don't match. I've never seen one like that, but I'm no expert on the subject. It's still cool, and I think someone will be able to id that front door if it is a hybrid cabinet. Post up some more pictures when you get it.

The drawer section on the bottom of this box looks very reminiscent of a Kennedy machinist box. It's hard to tell by those pictures could those be Kennedy pulls? It sure is interesting

This thing has all sorts of inconsistencies: Craftsman badges from two different eras, the Drawer plus mentioned are NOT 50's drawer pulls, and do look more like &0's CN or Kennedy that 50;s. the door latch is Not 50;s either. late 60's or 70's? maybe later?

I just rescued this Craftsman box from my dads' basement. It belonged to my grandfather and I've had my eye on it forever. I'd like to know what purpose it would have been designed for with all the small compartments, and an approximate build date. I know the wheels have been added, not sure if I'll leave them or not. Plans are to straighten out some of the bends in the trays and give it a respectable paint job. Luckily it looks rough but the box itself is straight and dent free.

Oh I agree with you I'm just saying the first thing that popped in my head is a machinist chest because it's the same drawer configuration.

Two I just picked up over the weekend. Trying to learn more and get them cleaned up. One is a Herbrand. The other I'm not sure yet.

Econo, Those were popular back in the day particularly before the "common man" started to use boxes with drawers regularly. the able places it primarily in the 50's possibly late 40's or early 60's.

On an off chance, see if there are any markings on the inside behind the label? if by the Metal Advertising Co, it may be marked :dunno:

Thanks for the date estimate Outlaw, and the tip about the mark. I checked it out and was surprised to find it was branded. Hard to get a picture of, I used a flashlight at an angle so you can see the letters stamped in.

Here is an old Craftsman wall mounted box I picked up the other day. I had it shipped from Cleveland, OH. I spent a little less to have it shipped than I paid for it. It's the woodworking/carpenters box. This is the one I wanted but I'd still like to get a mechanics box to go with it. Now to fill it with period tools!

That looks just like the Craftsman I posted upthread a bit. Wish mine was that clean. As Outlaw mentioned, you can look inside the box behind the Craftsman badge to see if there's a makers mark. Mine was stamped Waterloo, had to hold a flashlight at an angle for it to show up.

Thanks for the tip... yup its stamped WATERLOO right behind the tag:rocker:

Hello forum members - new guy here. I thought I would share pictures of a couple of my toolboxes.

The Kennedy machinist's toolbox and two drawer middle box are from my father-in-law. He was a mechanic, and I got them after he died in 2001. I don't know how old they are. I just bought keys for them online. The Kennedy mechanic's toolbox is from 1978; yes, I know it's not 40 years old. :) I bought it new when I started working at Cessna. My dad and I built the wooden rolling box just for it, and that pair has followed me around from job to job, state to state and from one career to another.

Edit: sorry about the third picture. It looks fine on my PC...

Picked up a couple more boxes this week. Couldn't resist the mid and top Powerkraft boxes, full of Craftsman tools, all USA but unfortunately not old enough for me........all G-coded sockets and -V^- wrenches

Sweet boxes, Twertsy! You have the Ward's match to my Craftsman top box. DO you know who made them?

November has been a top box kind of month with these two additions manufactured both in the windy city of Chicago.

1. 1957 Craftsman 10 drawer box manufactured by the Advertising Metal Display Company. I've been looking for this model of box since seeing Red Leader's beautiful stack and I finally found one for $70. The box is certainly beat up and bruised but came with the key and the sliding tray for the upper middle drawer.

Nice box FJ. I would not call your box beat-up by any stretch!

I got my answer, Twertsy. I just need to take a little time to read through this thread :)

Here are a few of my stacks.

My recently completed Huot along with a 1960s Williams and a 1950s Snap-On setup.

Well they were closed today, but I did find one like it on the web. The one at the store is a light blue with almost hammer metal paint on it. Looks old and has the same IH emblems on both top and bottom boxes. Heres the web pic, its a lot like the one at the store other than color. ill find out a price and post some pics this week on my day off.

I learned to drive a stick in this 3/4 (or one ton?) International:

Camper was off of it though...

That's my dad next to it. I was probably the cameraman. I think this is the only pic of the truck (salvaged from the few pics my dad had after he died...)
