I've been slowly collecting Knipex from Sears. Carefully use surprise points and you can get some smoking deals. They mostly ship directly from Knipex by the way unless you get the store carried items.

I'm still waiting on the points for my top box.

When I started checkout Sears said I'd get 60,000 bonus points back.

At checkout they said I'd get 67,000 bonus points the next business day.

I just chatted with Sears and they said I'd get 50,000 points on 11/30.

All parameters seem to be a moving target. We'll see if anything shows up in my account tomorrow. Sears is a circus.

Well, today I've got +50K.

Not a bad deal. It still makes me wrinkle my brow that they promised as much as +67K at one point. Effin' Sears.

So now I've got four different Sears boxes with four different keys.

What will a locksmith / key shop charge to re-key three of these for me, assuming I remove the locks and take them in to the store?

Sears sells sets of 3 keyed alike. If you look on the packages, and match the numbers, then 2 packs will get you 6 keyed alike.

If you need four alike, maybe write down the numbers of the 4 you have, then maybe you can find a 3 pack with that same number, that will give you 4.

These locks aren't going to slow anybody down trying to steal your tools. If you want to lock your toolbox, then wrap a chain around it, preventing the drawers from opening, then put a big ol' padlock on it.

Thanks for that, Ed. I didn't know that existed.

It does say for 26" boxes only, but it still may work. I will investigate.

And yeah, I view the factory locks as privacy, not security.

Just found this when browsing those 41" top and bottom boxes again. The warranty statement says, MADE IN THE USA WITH US AND FOREIGN COMPONENTS.

It wouldn't hurt to put that on the box itself and the marketing materials on display in the store. Get with it, Sears!

That is awesome, I wish I would have checked out the Craftsman before jumping on the Husky, either way both are great boxes.

The 3-Drawer (Black or Red) was $59.99 on Black Friday, is this 2-Drawer a similar type?

2-drawer has ball-bearings for the slides.

3-drawer is dura-glide.

I'm going to pull the trigger on the 2 drawer. Anyone else a VIP that ordered something on their birthday month? Suppose to get 5% back but check out is showing me the standard 1%. Not sure if they are suppose to post later or not, or if it isn't eligible with hot buy stuff.

Agreed. How could that not be front and center? They just can't get out of their own way.

Please give me a link for their clamps, no where do I see from my end that they're made in Slovakia. I'd give them a try, just need the link, thanks :D

This is all I find,

http://www.sears.com/search=wood cl...&levels=Tools_Hand Tools_Clamps&searsTab=true

I don't really feel that (most of) their prices are inflated, at least not when items are on sale, which is about 90% of the time. They are a bit inflated on things that are online only, such as specialty tools and such, but you can usually use a coupon to bring the prices down closer to reality. I have a rule not to pay more than 50% of retail from Sears, and I've bought almost their entire tool dept. following this rule with points offers, sales, and coupons.

Points are normally only 1-2% back, so not really a big perk unless they are offering some special points offer. Points back coupons usually aren't bad though.

As for their Asian-imported tools, I'm not a buyer either. Craftsman still sells a lot of stuff made in the states though, like pliers, hammers, screwdrivers, sandpaper, and a lot of other little things. Wood clamps are made in Slovakia, portable tool boxes in Israel. Of course, if you stray away from the Craftsman name you can buy Channellock, Wera, Wiha, Knipex, Estwing, Fluke, DeWalt, etc.

Then they'll take your bolt cutters off the pegboard and cut the chain. :D

I'm starting to consider giving up on this whole Sears thing.

For one, I don't really want any of their Chinese tools. Two, when I do find something I can actually use, the prices are so over inflated I could almost buy a quality tool. And three, the points I keep getting offered are nowhere near enough to offset the ridiculous prices.

Anyone else feel the same?

Yeah, I understand your point. It will be interesting what happens in the next 25 days or so with deals/surprise points.

Last year some of us were struggling with coming up with "what to buy with all of our points." A lot of us are the DIY types and have filled out our boxes but look for a good deal and don't settle for the China stuff nor do we require tool truck type stuff.

A set of pliers, some picks, drift punches, whatever. Navigating the webstore is a disaster.

With that said, it has become some perverse game for some of us. And in ten years Sears will become a case study on how not to do business.

Somehow I'll order the two drawer toolbox, use $7 in surprise points, get free shipping due to being a MAX member and due to my reward month I should get another $3 back. Along with this I'm some silver VIP member (another Sears screw up) so I'll yank the beater in for the $4 oil change. Every quarter they match $50 in points for a $50 purchase.

No wonder why they are circling the drain with margins like that. You basically spend $800 and you get $200 back without issue.

I need to get me some surprise points... Knipex are about the only thing I like that Sears carries anymore. I picked up a set of mini bolt cutters a few months back for slightly under $20 due to points. All of my tools use to be Craftsman - and a good amount still are (sockets and ratcheting wrenches, and some pliers that I haven't upgraded) but I don't go there to buy tools anymore, and when the tools wear out or break, I buy better brands now.

I do love my 103 table saw. It is well built and rebuildable - and is 62yrs old, from back when America was great and things weren't made at the cheapest price and designed to be disposable so you have to re-buy and have additional GDP growth.

Odd. I tried using these codes at check-out to purchase the $99 Craftsman 16825 wall mounted shop vac (linked below) and it wouldn't take any of them...

This wall-mount vacuum with remote is on sale for $99 down from $118 even on Amazon http://www.sears.com/craftsman-remote-control-wall-mount-5.0-peak-hp/p-00916825000P. I had $15 in surprise points so out the door $90 and free shipping.

You are right, tried the first one on a regular priced serpentine belt tool. They were single use, but I find it odd they all got used, oh well.

Yeah, I attempted to try one. Weird thing was it said wasn't applicable (I forgot which one) and listed $10 off $100 as being the one that wasn't listed.

Oh well. $110 order, $75 back in points with free shipping combining that coupon and using a 100% match up to $50 offer in my VIP offer. Thanks Sears. No wonder why you are circling the drain.
