Not sure what model but looks like there is weld bead on the dynamic jaw
Agreed on that one not going to lie I found the auction when it was first listed and was hoping to win it but whoever was at the top really wanted it.

Looking for help to try to identify the Parker vise. I assume it is either a 6" or larger vise due to the the two screws holding the retaining collar in place. What is puzzling to me is the placement of or lack of centering of the U.S.A. Every one i have seen the U.S.A is directly centered beneath the C.T. I do not have a picture of the reverse side that would denote what model it is. Any help would be appreciated.
Wasn't me.---I sniped at $287.53 and it went by me so fast, my bid wasn't even mentioned.![]()
Was it one of you guys who got the Welch jewelers vise on Ebay just now? Pretty cool pivoting mount, don't think I've seen one like it before. http://www.ebay.com/itm/11222294990...IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649&autorefresh=true
Had a snipe bid locked and loaded with about 8 minutes left, it was about $42 or $43 at the time, but was blown out of the water way before the end.
It is rare when I get my *** whipped on an auction, well done boys!!!

DANG! I was hoping it was you! Now I am really bummed that one of us didn't get it!
Somebody better fess up, LOL!
I had to sit down for dinner, something a 45 YO bachelor rarely has to do (lol, unless the pizza kid tells me to settle down!), so I went $228.88 about :15 left, thinking nobody was that (blanking) crazy... NOT EVEN CLOSE!
I've got a rare one in "my hip" for you, VA, take care!
ZOOM
PS. I don't think you are crazy, I am pissed I didn't bid more...

Zoom, would love a group shot of the Reed "C"s if you have one. Never even heard of a 402.5, how cool is that!! What is the weight on that one.
Oops, it was a typo, I fixes it to 403-1/2, sorry.
I will get a group shot when I head home.
They are hard to find in that configuration.
Thanks Jeff, take care!

Zoomie, don't make me beg.
Now if I told you I had a rare one in my hip, it would mean I just got out of surgery and my new hip was made of platinum.![]()

Spotted a vise listed on CL this morning and looked at only attached pic by seller and appeared to be a Columbian #504 with what looked like a small stand probably used with an adapter to slide vise into a trailer hitch.
Decided had time, so called and left msg.
Got call 1/2 hour later and picked it up within 45 mins.
This afternoon, took off the small stand and stripped off the paint on the vise.
4 inch jaws and max opening of 6 inches. Weight around 42 pounds. Columbian # 504 with fixed base and USA Made in Cleveland OH.
All,
Last night I won a Parker 974-1/2 vise at an estate auction. Along with that, I won a fully charged fire extinguisher. a Cincinnati Tool Co. 6" C-clamp, Wilton 806 & 804 C-clamps and a vintage Craftsman portable sander.
Life's good!
Hi everyone. One of my customers asked me a question I cannot answer. Recently he bought a 5" Starret vise from me. He went to mount it and noticed the base had a tapered mounting hole, from 3/4" to 5/8ths. He asked me why and I could not explain it.
Can any of you give me a good explanation?
I'd try to chop some price off there, start at $200. But if it's clean (i.e. no cracks or welds and includes all parts including pipe jaws, end cap), you're getting an OK value at $250 and could even turn a profit if you restored it nicely. In sum, not a bad deal just not a you **** deal imo.

Joe,
The base was cast in a mold. To allow it to be released from the mold, there must be a draft, or angle of the pin that forms the holes, so the molded part can be easily released from the mold. You can look at any plastic box or Tupperware container and see that the top rim is larger than the bottom.

No I think he means the top surface slopes down at the back end. At least that's what it appears in the photo.
