RKA would a second one daisy chained in that same spot not give the same outcome for essentially the same price? or is the CRI really the main difference to you?

The Costco units are yellower, which in an unfinished basement doesn't appeal to me. I prefer the whiter light from the Lights of America units.

Anyway, I just wanted to present another option. I don't think there is much more to add in this thread that hasn't already been said.

I haven't had a chance to make a proper introduction to the forum yet, but I just closed on my house and the first bit of reno work is going to be proper garage lighting. Given that I'm a bit obsessive about exposed wiring would it be feasible (and up to NEC) to drill a hole in the top (ceiling side) of the end cap to re route the power cable directly up into the ceiling and hard wire these into a junction box, essentially turning them into a flush mount fixture?

I've got easy attic access so I'm not worried about the wiring, just wondering if there is a safety/code concern I'm overlooking. At this price it's worth the little bit of extra labor vs spending twice as much or more at Lowes/HD for something that's designed for flush mounting.

Someone that has bought them might be better able to answer your question, but I would *assume* you could remove the plug from the side and just get a cap for it. Then drill a hole (or it might already have a knockout) in the top to run a wire through the ceiling.

I put a regular round box like you would use for a light in about the center of where my florescent lights were going to be and ran through the top of the fixture.

I read that the fixture flush mounts, but the flush mount installs I've seen still have the cord plugged into a receptacle (with 5' of cord bundled up, pet peeve of mine). I'm trying to avoid any visible wiring. I like your setup, that's essentially what I'm trying to accomplish. Thanks for the pics. Were those fixtures designed to be hardwired or did they come with a standard 110v plug?

no the sides are plastic and there are no knockouts.

They are sold out online. Got my hands on a few locally, but only 4 singles. They come as single, or 2 singles in 1 package. Same fixture as far as I can see..

Need clarification from you pros, should the ceiling receptacle be GFCI? I am in SoCal. How do you guys feel about using faceless GFCI next to the switch instead? Overkill?

Ceiling receptacles do not need or would I want them to be gfi. General rule is anything out of normal reach should not be on gfi

I read that NEC now requires all receptacles to be GFCI, including GDO. In addition, GFCI buttons need to be easily accessible location. I was just wondering how people are doing all this.

FYI, check with your local utility! I just got off the phone with mine. They have a rebate for LED bulbs and these are eligible for the program. The rebate is 50% off for any bulb over 500 lumens! So that means each 4' fixture will only end up costing about $10 after the Costco sale and the utility's rebate!

My Costco had an entire pallet in stock today. I grabbed two to finish out the lighting in my 24'x24' garage. I now have a total of 8 of these lights and 1 8' standard fluorescent.

Thanks to the guys on this thread. Stopped in store last week and discover deal on lights. I bought 6 and planned on picking more up wed only to find them sold out. I am planning a 34x36 shop and figured 4 rows of 5 so was disappointed. You guys alerted me to the online deal so I ordered 6 packs of 2 and they are already marked shipped. I would have missed out if not for you. I will probably cut the cords and put 90° ends on them. I like the acoustic lags mentioned in a different post for hanging. I bought ten a few weeks ago at my COstco, that is 95 miles away from me. Went back the next week they were sold out. I explained to a worker there I would like ten more lights, he said the lights are one of the few things you can get a rain check on. So I have a rain check, and they are supposed to be in on the 9th. Ask them and they will tell you when new ones are coming in.

I have had no issues with these working in temperatures as low as -20 (I have two in an unheated shed).

My store has the new motion sensing lights in stock, and just a handful of the older ones. New lights put out 3800 lumens (vs 3700) and consume 48W (vs 42W). They're retailing at $40 each right now.

Well since you asked..... Some Home Depot's and Lowes will take the unbroken tubes because the tubes contain Mercury so they must be properly disposed. The metal parts can also be recycled in a "metal only dumpster" however if you have only a few fixtures just toss them in your trash since they will rust away in a landfill.

The bulbs should be turned in at a collection point, usually that's a retailer or a local government drop off point.

I personally scrap the fixtures, not because they're worth much but because it's the environmentally sound option.
