Anybody ever seen a worn out Wilton 450n before? This is a first for me...
Any one out there got a 450n for parts??? Or need parts???

Ours at school is worn pretty bad like that. The swivel base is busted too.

What can you guys tell me about these? Do these have any real value, or are they "collectable"?

They're worth as much as somebody is willing to pay for them, aside from their utilitarian value. In your case, they look like wall art. :D

I have about that many (some looks to be the same) and yep, generally minimal value.

Good for small hobby or jewelry work...

Fun to see how the different companies approached it though.

It has zero writing on it. This is the only picture I have until it is safely in my hands!

Anyone know what it is?

V.A. I'm counting on you to show me one or more of these that's in your pile(s)

ViseS: NEVER KNEW an old version of the DAWN offset vise existed. i know there is a US manufacturer and i think maybe VA has one so maybe he'll know.

other than a chunk of the jaw missing it looks in pretty decent shape. are those removable jaws or are you looking at a repair?

good luck

Made by Maneby New England Vise co. Never seen one with an anvil, and it's the opposite direction offset from the other two I've seen.

Nope VISEs, never seen one of those.---It looks like it is staggering drunk, but I love it.---Hollands is the only US. off-set brand that I know of except Wilton, and they had a few made in Australia by the Dawn Co..---There may be more but I just can't recall any.

Just got me a holy grail unicorn today!!!!!!!!! Reed 4C!!!!!

Bcom - Congrats on the 4C it is one of my favorites. At one time I had 14 of them but sold some of the newer ones. There were a lot of them sold in the refinery and oil business as well as natural gas plants. Every plant I have ever been to has had reed "C" series vises.

I would love stop back up sometime!

Maybe I'll get to them this weekend. I'd better slow down on the purchases, or I'm not going to know what to work on first, lol. I've got another 4 1/2" one I bought on eBay that'll be here in a couple days. This is an old one!

Blsnell, It's kinda hard to tell what you have as I can't see the makers marks.

When it comes to clamp-ons, it's mostly in the brand, model, and age, as with any kind of vises.---There are some that are right pricey.

Here's some to look out for.--------Stanly Sweet Heart, Karas Electric , Wilton, O-GON, Fulton, and PIRAMIIT.---Some of these are mine, the rest I've got to have.

The Fulton was a clamp-on, but someone butchered it.

Congrats Bcom, that is a definite top 5 must haves for most vise fanatics. For myself, could be number one.

Thanks! I doubt ill try to restore this one. It looks just great without a resto. May just remove the surface rust down to bare metal and let her be naked and show off her original beauty:thumbup:

You should just de-grease it, coat it in Flood Penetrol, then coat that in Polyurethane. I did a few "preservations" like that, they looked awesome!

I've seen a number of early (Meadville, Pa) Yosts that look just like a Hollands or Reed from the same era, and the Meadville isn't far from Erie.

Reed 33 and Yost 33....awfully similar if you ask me, and more than what I'd call a coincidence. Reed also sold this line on a swivel with the center lock...trying to find a picture of a 33. Of course I already have a picture of a 34, and can't find a 33 now!

Here's the 34 to compare the swivel base:

Man that Reed sippin' the Coke, sure looks familiar. :p

BCOM: i can imagine you were tired if you were carrying around your Reed 4c from here to there. nice find and i bet that drained the vise budget a bit, but that might be maybe the best big vise made prior to 1960 or ever.

if i don't get a stand under mine soon i'm going to buy a hydraulic lift table if i have to move it many more times. it's a BEAST!!

Yeah it did drain my budget a bit but it was totally worth it. We put it in the back of my jeep and even my vehicle could feel the weight of this thing. It leveled out my jeep and put my headlights higher in the air while driving down the road. Im gonna have to find a small chain hoist to move it around the shop so i can clean it up a bit.:willy_nil

BCom: for some of the bigger vises i've bought and own if i'm going to do some work on them i take the dynamic out all the way and move them around in 2 or 3 pieces. it is sometimes a bit hard to screw them back together so i've had good luck laying them on their sides so i can line up the screw and vise nut, but you do it any way you like cause it's your 4c.
