Hi Dan, great thread. Well written. Finished reading through in the middle of the night as one does on occasion

Does that mean the Quonset is now pretty much just a workshop with the replica in it's new home ? Shame about the leaks, I must admit I like that building style but after also following JB's hidey hole they seem to be heavy on the maintenance side - hopefully that sealant holds up and keeps it dry for you now.

Hi GB and thank you! The shop is pretty much done. I have finally been doing work in the shop rather than on the shop.

If one assembles these buildings like one is supposed to, they should be fine and leak free. But if one tries to be cheap about it, well.....you have seen the outcome.

Alrighty then, let's get back into the shop.

I started with this....



And since the little car now has its own home, I have to move all of the stuff against the walls back towards the middle of the shop. Why? To finally install conduit and electrical. YES!!! Oh, and some RapidAir air lines

I had extension cords running everywhere to get whatever lit up or fired up.

So I got conduit run on the east wall and was finally able to wire up the compressor that had been sitting for two years.





It was lovely to hear that sucker fire up!

Then I ran conduit over the sectional door and down the west side of the shop.









And then I ran conduit to the unistrut to power the overhead lights and viola, no more extension cords. And I had air everywhere. I have never had that before. I'm just silly giddy right now!

The red stripes on the wall was the idea from my lovely wife. I like really them too!

This is the west wall. The bottom run is outlets, the middle run is going to head out the back for the service to the new garage and the top run is also going out the back to service the mini-split.

This is the east wall. The bottom run is outlets, the middle run is the compressor and the top run is going to service the south wall for the lights and outlets that have yet to be installed.

Back out at the shed...............



My lovely wife absolutely hates bare stud walls, it creeps her out. I'm not a fan either. So, I had enough of that shop insulation left over to insulate the entire shed. I also filled in the cracks and leveled the concrete the best I could, cursing the whole time. My wife also painted the extra OSB that we had so now we have walls..........and it's white in there now...........and the floor is epoxy coated..........and there is a small solar system in there for lights when it gets dark. It actually did not turn out too bad. She's threatening to put in one of those fake flat screen TV's out there just for fun. I think she's a bit Odd.










And, I have some special plans for the exterior of this shed that will go along with the theme here at Odd Acres.

FIO: sorry to hear you lost one of your 4 legged friends. it looks like maybe your puppy is still pretty shaken up about it. any plans to get another puppy or are you waiting until you are totally fenced it cause i think you were still working on the gate?

i love the red stripe around the top of the shop and you did a great job hanging the cabinets cause my OCD says they are in center, level and on two levels that are identical.

looking forward to seeing how you side the shed for the Cobra and finish the inside maybe with signs and a REAL TV just in case you end up using it as a back up shop if the big shop has a project in it?

snowed about 5 inches here in SEATTLE last night and i bet it's been a while since you've seen some. looks like i'm going to get some exercise outside this morning with a shovel.

dwysywd, this is the best that I can do for now. I'm out of town for the next few days.

I took two pieces of angle to make a U channel then bolted them together to the building. Then I drilled the unistrut to accept a bolt to fit the channel I just made.

This shot is where I used some SS wire rope to level out the sag in the unistrut.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you need more info.

I'm letting my wife take the lead on this one if she wants another rescue. She was pretty distraught.

BTW, the back yard is fully fenced. With the front drive gates closed, we actually have two levels of fencing to get to the back yard. we wanted to be able to drive in and out without having to worry about the dogs getting out or (more likely) getting paws run over.

Nope, not a K& N. It's a Spectre air cleaner. What came from the factory was a joke of an air cleaner so I thought I would spruce it up a bit. There I go again over engineering things. I still don't like the look of the plumbing. Need to figure out a more elegant approach.

Brent, I love the RapidAir product. The tube to connector seals are great, well engineered. For the NPT threads, I got a recommendation from an air compressor installer years ago. He said they always use blue Loc-Tite thread compound. That is what I used here and not one junction blew any bubbles. The pressure regulator on the other hand........... Chinese quality at its best, NOT!

I've just seen that the rapid air kit is available here in Australia also, might be a faster and probably cheaper option as I was originally going to use 1/2" copper pipe. Looks like I have some reading to do, I like it already.

I saw a couple of those gas pumps in that style but for Esso gas company while in Uruguray last month. I asked if they were for sale cause he had the actual glass globe for them, he said well I know they can bring $5000 apeice. Needless to say they stayed in Uruguay cause I couldn't afford them and the shipping cost!

I think it's something like 8 bucks more a sheet. That sounds like a lot but, man, this stuff is worth it. I'm not set on what type of roofing materials we'll use yet but I know, for sure what sheathing we'll be using.

Which brings me to an off topic comment, why in the world do we still construct homes using outdated materials and methods? I see some really great innovations and materials being used commercially but residential builders (as a whole) aren't following suit.

For the most part, in my experience, it's unfamiliar to them and they don't want to experiment unless told to do so by the customer.

Thanks for stopping by Kburk09, and thank you very much for the kind words. This may not be the COTU (center of the universe) but we like to think of it as the OCOTU (Odd corner of the universe).

We do have green spaces out here it's just not like what is seen in the Midwest. Sooner or later, most of the dirt on our property will be covered with hardscaping. Just think of all of the grass I DON'T have to mow.

Really enjoying the updates. Yes i want to see more pictures of the cobra. Everytime I see this thread I think of the Odd Thomas books by Dean Koontz. I do not normally like his books but enjoyed the Odd Thomas books. If you are a reader might want to give them a try.
I am surprised that you do not have a garage or carport for the daily drivers to get them out of the sun. Or is that coming? You say it is not to warm there, but you are in a desert.
