You can also search for blade stiffener or blade stabilizers (2 different products), but I think those all have 5/8" arbors because they are used on saw blades...

You are right buddy. They are 5/8". Just double checked. I found these on eBayhttp://m.ebay.com/itm/1-2-Bench-Grinder-Arbor-Washer-Flange-Collar-1-2-ID-x-2-3-16-OD-x-1-8-Thick-/371878658035?hash=item5695b1fff3%3Ag%3AceYAAOSwSlBYtH8k&_trkparms=pageci%253A800f3ea9-03a1-11e7-bbfe-005056b62a8c%257Cparentrq%253Aab9b8f3515a0a2a4f387ea5ffffed8f5%257Ciid

I've also seen the grinder flanges listed as:
Collar,Wheel
Washer,Clamp

I checked ereplacementparts for DEWALT DW756 Bench Grinder, 6 In., 3450 RPM.
791543-00 Collar, Wheel | Inside Dimension 1/2", Outside Dimension 2 1/16"
Part Number: 791543-00
Price: $3.99
In stock, but look like stamped steel.

Looking to get 8 but 4 to get me started. Need them for the grinder I just finished. I don't trust the ones that were on it when I bought it. Rusted up pretty bad
PM me, please. :)

I've seen this one as well. It'll definitely go for a good penny. I think he has another one as well that's been all cleaned up

So after talking to my guy who makes all my decals and stickers he said that for an exact replica it would cost $20 for two stickers plus shipping. Shipping **I think** usually runs $6.

I got distracted finishing up some holders for various tools. I will PM you later perhaps others will wants some of the same labels for now and future so might be able to get a group deal going.

Speaking of ordering block parts, to my utter surprise I ordered 2 of the plastic light shades p/n 534497198 from searsparts direct and WOW did they ship quick, I was amazed! ordered 3/6 will arrive 3/8!!! Get ya some!

I have a chunk missing out of my shade and was amazed to see that there is still a replacement for 4971958. What concerned me was the Sears note that said, " This is a functional equivalent that will fit but may look different. Not Returnable". The old one looks like bakelite or maybe ABS, that can take a lot of heat but can be a little brittle. As you just ordered one, does it look like the original or is it some flimsy piece of plastic? Thanks.

I have an original one on my old Cman, it looks just like the one in the picture on the sears parts direct, just plastic nothing special. I think it said 50W max... I put a LED bulb in there anyhow so no worries with the glass heating up.

So was the 1/3 HP grinder a more popular model? I've been looking for a few weeks now for a 1/2 HP round top but is like a unicorn. You know they exist but can't find d them. When I do they are already cleaned up and super expensive. Even then don't see many cleaned up for sale. I find a ton of the 1/3 HP

Its pretty sturdy, looks like an exact copy? Read "made out of nylon"...? its not thick, Funny thing was, the email mentioned "husqvarnia/sears replacement parts" so maybe they are reproducing these from the original mods for sears? But for $4 and change plus shipping IMHO, their golden, wish I could get the inner heat shields too :(

From the lil time I got in dealing with these, I am going to say with out a doubt; YES, 1/3 hp is the most widely found in the market, followed in no certain order by 1/4 hp and 1/2 hp, IMHO, YMMV Of course, the expert can answer that better than anyone else, Dr Block?

That's great information on the light cover. I need to get one as well for my other block I'll be working on. As far as the heat shield goes you could probably just make one. Wouldn't be to hard. Guess that will add to my list of things to do. Replica light heat shield..Lol..

Good to know on the rarity of the round top 1/2 HP. Thought I was going crazy or not searching correctly..

Both of mine are 1/2hp, and generally seem to be found cheaper than the 1/3'rds out here. Seen a few in the under $75 range in the last few months. Really, NDfan, you just need to get a budget together, have me grab tools here and drive them back home.:bounce:

Man if your willing to pick up blocks for me I'd be willing to pay. I can't find them here in SC period! So I have to resort to eBay where they are rediculously marked up or the bidding gets out of control.

Around SE Michigan, 1/3-HP Blocks (rtop and ftop) are found on CL, and estate sales more than the other HP models.

From my tracking sheet of current, sold, and gifted Blocks.
1/3 - 24
1/2 - 20
3/4 - 11
1/4 - 5 low number partly because 1/3-HP and above is what I look for
1 - 4

IMO, the 1/2 & 3/4-HP Blocks are better suited to what I do in the shop. Enough power they don't stall, but not the scary brutes the 1-HP are.

If I am seeing your pictures correctly, the replacement looks almost straight sided vs flared sides on the old one. Is that correct?

Oh yeah.... Totally forgot that little metal heat shield inside (sorry it's been a while since I took mine apart)... It's really thin metal and you don't even see it, you could probably hand-form something out of sheet metal, and drill a hole to screw it to the plastic cap...

As for 1/2 vs 1/3.... hard to say... When I have a sample size of more than TWO CMan grinders (one 1/3 & one 1/2) that I have seen around here in the past year, I'll let you know. :lol_hitti

Slightly off topic, but in the April 2017 issue of Popular Woodworking there is an article on sharpening chisels, and he's using a block.

I can definitely see the 1/3 being a more popular option. Most home DIY don't need a machine to hog off metal..

I cant speak to the early 60's blocks maybe Dr Block can advise on those?

Exactly, I picked up a metal drop light shade and will modify one of those to make that work and fwiw, I plan to use a led build so heat will no longer be an issue.

Block grinders with one side cover or one eye shield remind me of the one shoe you see laying in the road, you wonder what ever happened to it's mate.

So what do you guys think, Worth it? Going to have my sister pick it up and mail it to me if it's worth it. Lowest I've seen for one

https://sacramento.craigslist.org/tls/6034541539.html
Figure shipping on being $30-50 or more, FWIW. So if your cool w/$100 in it before you turn it on? But you seem to be in the same boat I am, no pun intended, they don't have things like that in my area, never!

Don't happen to have a fastenal (sp?) in the area she's in, and where you are?
Sometimes they are cheaper they say.
