What did you do "TO" your garage today?

Jim,

It's already done but did you consider actually having the one wall slanted against your property line like in the picture below (green line)? Or was that not worth it or very minimal space gain?

I'm just over thinking since I always try to get the max amount of space utilized with things.

The pad is a full 20' wide, so I am considering a full width addition. It would end up less than 1' from the fence, so I have not decided. I will not angle it. Too complicated for me to build. Besides, I will put my AC there.

That's true, never thought about the angle making it harder to build but that makes sense.
I'd love to come by! Appreciate it! We are going to be out of town next week and then the follow week for LA but after that I'm free so we'll have to sync something up.

Decided to add some shelves. I had added shelves years ago. Then realized that there is still dead space above the cabinets and on the one side of the wall. Ordered some more closetmaid maxload since it matches everything already and installed it last week. Also changed the single outlet on the wall to a double so that way I don't have to keep unplugging the car when I need to use the outlet. Worked out quite well.

Before/after pictures of shelves. Only crappy part is since the shelves are further in the garage if I NEED to get to something I have to pull a car out depending on how close I park to the wall.. not a big deal because most of the stuff that will be there are things that aren't touched that often. I just want to get as much stuff off the floor and out of areas.

Installed this 18,000 BTU window AC. Got it free from a friend converting his house to central air conditioning. Barely fit in the opening. I made up some alum side panels and bottom panel to give it a clean look. Should make July a good month to work on the car

Got to Costco and picked up a pair of LED tubes to replace the fluorescent tubes in one of my fixtures. First impression is that the "cool white" LED tubes don't give as much light as the "daylight" fluorescent tubes. Time will tell. Not in a rush to change all of them over yet.

I got my slab lifting company back to complete the lifting of the rear third of a cracked floor slab using jacks and polyurethane foam under pressure. It needs to come up another 1 to 2 inches. They should complete the work today by 3 pm.

I agree with you on "daylight" being brighter to the eye. 5000 K appears brighter than the more typical 3500 K, whether LED or fluorescent.

Brought the old couch from the house out to the garage, put away the snowblower and cab, and stared at the wall for a half hour deciding whether to mount the bigger tv directly on the wall or on a shelf.

The grass is really growing so I had my wife pull her ZTR mower out of the corner and did the spring once over. Oil change, grease, a new drive belt and fresh blades. It will be 13 years old this year and still runs like it did when it was new. It is a 52 inch Toro with a 23 hp Kalwasaki engine.

FINALLY got a new roof put on the garage. The original 1986 roof has has a leak for about 7+ years, lol. Just a small drip, in an out-of-the-way corner, but still. I have been randomly calling roofers for years, nobody ever showed up. I finally got serious and called about 10 in a row. Two actually showed up. One didn't follow directions at all, showed up when nobody was there, then mailed me an "I don't wanna do the job" price. The other guy showed up, was super nice, had a very good price, and got the job. His crew did the whole garage, plus a couple smaller jobs on the house (fixed a blown-off shingle, cleaned the gutters, and replaced some apron flashing) all in one day.

The only problem was, he was supposed to install new gutters on the garage too, but the ones he ordered ended up being 6" too short. He's supposed to come back with the correct length and finish up.

It's nice to get this stuff checked off the list. Now I can get a proper ceiling installed in the garage. Someday... LOL.

Well yesterday (too tired to post last night), I got up and made the quick trip over to Grandma's house to start digging.

We bought her a new utility sink to install in the garage some two years or so ago, and since it was a nice day (ok it got up to about 24 out of the sun so it was hot) so I started to dig. Dug approximately 3'6" deep, 20-24" wide and 110ish" long trench, layed down two sections of black plastic tunnel (I think it's supposed to be used in a weeping bed) and piped in some 1.5" black ABS. Lined the bottom of the hole with gravel from the section of driveway we are removing, filter cloth and back filled.

Took two garden trailer loads of dirt away from the site, down the street to the dock and filled in a sink hole. I'll probably use the rest of the gravel from the driveway to finish that job in the next week or three.

Shop sink is now functional and ready to go.

I finished putting up the drywall on the back wall of my garage. One more step in converting the shop from an easy-bake oven to a useable work space during the heat of the year. It will be a welcomed improvement and probably a one of the best improvements.

Lowered and levelled out the yard between house and garage as well backfilled the side yard. Need to weld up a gate post that I can anchor the thing to the footing as well the curb wall. Only 16" wide but main access to and fro from the back lane.

My help and I finished a few changes in the stop, turn and brake signal circuits. I had to add a few resistors with heat-sinks. Now, all of the light work as they were intended to.
Tomorrow I want to get an early start on the final ECU programing. If all goes well, the Ford should be on the road later in the day.

New threshold and new door sweep, more of band aid until the wife and I do all new doors in the spring. It looks like the previous owner had a break in some years back that busted the frame, bent the door and un caulked the original threshold(never actually mounted to the concrete) and caused rot in the frame that hopefully stopped at the frame or I'm in for more that just hanging a new door.
