The first one is a motor from an old Hobart Coffee Machine. Safety glasses a must. Great for cleaning up cast iron, taking paint off. The second is an Edison Kraft don't know much about it. I can't read the label on the third one, and the last 2 the Van Dorn with retrofitted switch, and 1949 Mall portable power tool I previously listed. I have a couple more including a flat belt number I'll list later. Thanks

Found this sweet Stanley 1/2 hp grinder thinking of giving it a paint job. Switch was broke and the cord was replaced with a Chunk of extension cord so replaced both fired it up and it runs as smooth as a baldor. I bet it weighs 65 pounds.

Here is a Wolf Model TD6G 6" grinder that came from a neighbour's basement. The original colour was red which looks standard for Wolf. The rests have both been repaired/modified. It runs just fine and is ready to roll as is.

This one has a Canadian connection, as it looks like Wolf had a facility in Toronto. That nameplate would indicate a mid sixties date.

If anyone has any further info. it would be interesting to hear the story.

Yup it is a neat one. When I first saw it sitting on the corner of the bench it looked like a piece of junk. Not until I got it home and cleaned up those nameplates a bit, did I realize it was special. Never heard of a WOLF before my Google search.

I am cleaning up a small home shop of a tool and die man who passed away a few years ago. There are many more things to come, I'll start a new thread once I get things going. The sad part is I am coming to the party late, there was a roller and top chest full of stuff and all traded for some work done around the house. So, we'll never know what was in those chests.

Another Kingston-Conley grinder, and arguably among the best ever built.

Does anyone here know which GJ member owns this grinder ? I'm trying to get my recently purchased Miller's Falls researched and this is an exact copy of mine in a few.respects. I'd love to chat with the owner.

Thanks in advance

I assume you got that on a Google image search? Did you try the "visit page" option? It should take you to the posting...

Im 98% sure NotStock's wheel shroud is stamped 3/1966 from his build photo, so I'm getting close...plus the forward rivet holes on his body housing have the exact location and layout as my Miller's Falls horizontal badge.

Decided to pull out the old grinder and realized I never did any research about this unit itself. After doing an hour of searching online, coming up mostly empty handed, I'm not more intrigued. I think this is from the 70's or 80's based on other models I've found with similar product catalog numbers by Dayton Electrical. It's in pretty decent overall shape and works like a charm.

Anyone have any resources or thoughts on the date of this bench grinder?

JRodell,
I presume you went to OWWM and saw the Dayton grinder photo index ? I was there this morning and breezed through them. There were quite a few as I recall. If you look under the base where the wiring is contained there may be a date in tbere.

That's a solid looking unit.

I had made a thread for this 10" Ford Smith when I got it last December, thought I would add it here since it is pretty old. I don't have the time to do a full restore on it, so I just bought a wire wheel and a new semi corse stone, a couple of drops of oil here and there, and use it.

Use the wire wheel on tons of stuff. Did 3 lawnmower blades a couple of days ago, works great.

When I got it, I weighed it and it was around 235 pounds. Very powerful, if something were to jam, my guess it would seriously kickback. Unlike my 6" bench grinder, this grinder would be difficult to stall.

Mine is stamped 1987, so I would assume it pre-dates that quite a bit...

Yeah, that is my hesitation using my 3/4 HP Dayton that's more like 1HP in terms of amp rating... It does not bog down in the least when you get on it and if something were to ever catch it would do some serious damage for sure.

Built by Doerr Electric (owned by Grainger/Dayton), most likely 70's. It's a very lightweight machine, but they do spin very smoothly. I have the 1/3hp version and it is a joy to use.

I just wanted to add that when I got it, I did do some research and there isn't a lot on the web for Ford Smith grinders. The little I did find, it seems that this would have been their "smallest" model. I saw some 12 and 14", and then some of the big *** stationary grinders that have 20" or larger wheels.

The guy that sold it to me ($175 CDN) had 4 of these, told me he got it from a tech or vocational school.

I am lucky to have found it and very happy with this unit. It should easily out last me and go on for a couple of other generations.

I scored this vintage 1/4 hp Thor grinder from my grandparents farm from the scrap pile for free! It still works too! I will give it a resto in the future! Wondering its age and where I would find reference materials for specs or parts ? I can't tell if it is missing some wheel guards or if it is so old it was made with none ?

Here is a 1hp Wissota It runs good but I could hear one of the bearings running a bit ruff. Tore it down today and sure enough one of them is a bit stiff getting two tomorrrow FYI there 6204 if anyone is intersted. Since I had it apart figured what the heck lets repainted it so hope to have that done this week.

CA: nice looking grinder and it's in good hands now. make sure to also check that stone for cracks or are you going to replace it cause i see a little chunk missing on the side of it in the picture (or I need better glasses). anyway if there isn't any cracks and you want to keep it dress it with one of those cool diamond tools and i bet that thing will work great.

I'm looking forward to see if you spiff your grinders up as well as your vises too!! good luck and hope that changing the bearings makes it purr like it should.

FMC: that is one cool grinder you own and make sure you keep the guards on that stone close so you don't get anything stuck in between it and your stone like you were mentioning.

i love the stand and wondering if it being on casters is working for you? pretty stable and easy to move around?

thanks for sharing.

Drives, my workshop (garage) has too much stuff so everything has to be on wheels. The grinder I sometimes wheel outside or use it in the garage also. The casters are strong enough for the weight but small to keep the center of gravity lower to the ground and keeps everything more stable.

Overall, the grinder on the stand, on casters works very well for me. If I had a bigger shop, I would probably still keep the grinder on a stand and on the casters.

Score of the year for me - picked up this 1/4 HP Blue Point/Snap-On bench grinder. CL seller had it listed for $20 - turns out he lived 1/2 mile away. Said he thought about putting it into the landfill :eyecrazy:

Needs a new cord, is missing tool rests & eye shields, and the previous owner chopped off the bottom of the right guard for some reason, however the thing runs like the day it was new and takes a minute and half to stop spinning. It's pretty heavy too at just over 37 pounds without wheels.

I can't quite make out information on the tag - who do you think made this one? Kingston-Conley? Dayton? It looks identical to the Millers Falls 706(?) and I have seen the same grinder with a Stanley tag at an auction.

Put a wire wheel on the right side (suggest adding a "spark arrester" as they also help arrest flying wires...

They may have dropped it and broken that corner, or cut it off for better WW/Buffer access, or both... :dunno:
