I'll be needing to buy new headlights soon.

Seems there are a lot of new choices.

I'm all for better visibility, but not sure I want to look like a lowered, stanced, bagged, ricer with a fart can and an intercooler 'roll'n' at you down the road on 22" spinners

Anybody upgrading their vintage vehicle with newer technology lights?

Very cool project! I have been following along. I have owned a bunch of trucks in the 75-79 Range. REstored a couple of them.

As far as headlights look at the Anzo USA LED's. They use very little power are a direct plug in no mods needed and are very very bright. After trial and error trying others I have them in Eco1 now. Any vehicle I have that has a 7" round will get them. It has a very wide beam also for kids, cars, deer or other on side of roadway. They dont give them away but soooo worth it. Easy to adjust because of pattern.

No problem lighting up 6 lanes of freeway on low beam. Cell does not like low light but . .

The dual battery tray is pretty much the places where Ford used to put the optional factory dual battery trays. They used an isolator and a relay for dual batteries.

If you don't want the newer headlamps that look rice-ish, dump the U.S. spec 6024s and get Hella E-code 6024s along with improved wiring with relays. Back then, all headlamp wiring were direct from alternators to headlamp switches, heating the switches up and weakening output big time along with undersized wiring. Using 85-87 relays will solve this issue, and headlamps get full output taking the stress off the factory wiring and headlamp switch.

Problem is, they ****. U.S. spec DOT approved headlamps is utter ****. No change since 1940 other than Ford somehow convinced DOT to let them use composite headlamps rather than standard 6024/6054 headlamp spec on the new 1986 Taurus back in the day.

I used Hella lights in my '70 mustang nearly 40 yrs ago and in the day they were good but not in same league as the DOT approved Anzo USA.

If you want low cost and a improvement over "stock" then maybe. If you want to be able to see its hard to beat the DOT ~ LED's.

His question was asking if anybody upgraded a vintage vehicle to newer technology lights. LED is newer in my book. Halogen has been around forever. Have you ever seen the lights I mentioned? Who said anything about a used up halogen or overloaded wiring ?

I simply responded to his question to say I had upgraded lights using LED's and that they work as well as about anything else out there. If I considered them to be "ricer" they would not have gone on my 50yr old truck. The not quite stock look far exceeds the light output and being able to see . . Let him decide if the look too ricer or are out of his price range.

I step out for a few days and miss all the drama. LED headlights are awesome, until it snows, then they **** a$$ so bad it is not funny. They do not create enough heat, so the snow sticks and then you have to actually stop and wipe off your headlights. So if you run them in the winter and it snows, be ready. I almost pulled the trigger on some, then one winter, I drove my buddies truck and could not figure out why it was so hard to see, pulled over and the headlights were covered with snow, had to stop three more times to clean them off.

Haul 1 was a little truck load of steel from my job site.

And haul 2 was some old axles, farm implement parts, and some Elm wood.

Is everything getting heavier, or am I just getting old?

Those farm implement parts are sickle bar mower guards. Used on combines, swathers, and sickle bar mowers. They separate the stalks and provide the lower cutting edge for the reciprocating cutter bar.

Haul 1 looks like you used your flatbed but Haul 2 looks like a Ford (?) pickup bed. Yet another Ford truck in the picture?

Those are super handy and will save your back. I have a custom modded one with dual outriggers on it. I've picked up a 1200lbs cummins turbo diesel with it!

Melted paraffin wax or a thick coat of exterior latex paint on the end grain, then put them aside for a year....per inch of thickness...

Received my parts from LMC today, so I jumped in and started on the face lift:

Not exactly a direct swap out on the parts between a '77 and a '79, but I'm getting it all figured out.

Best thing I ordered was the new fastner kit with all the plastic inserts, dog point screws, and U-nuts. So much easier than dealing with rusted, stripped out junk.

I think I feel like I'm coming down with the "I need to finish my front end" flu.
I just might need to stay home tomorrow.

Skipped out of work early today to come home and put some time and effort into reassembly of the grill.

Not 100% yet, but it's all there. Bonus, all the lights work too!!

I just picked up a pair of Sylvanias from O'Riely's. They'll do for now.
Just need it to get a little darker so I can get them pointed in the right direction.

Tomorrow I should have the bumper back on, and then on to the next project.
