Hoods up, America!!!

Little work on the F350, a little work on the MR2.

Busy day today.

Got the bumper in it's final location. Still a little bit of fuss'n and tweak'n, but it's 98%. Not a bad days work. I'll even:beer:myself.

Don’t make it too nice.
It will lose it’s character.

That is my motto.

I don't want a pristine truck. (and I don't want to pay for a pristine truck) Not my style. I get dirty, and I still want to use it as a truck.

I thought about prepping and painting the front bumper, but then looked at it in place and thought to myself - doesn't get much better than that!
nvZz

I did wash it, and then realized that there was a stamp from the store it came from. Nelson Truck in Seattle.

kCXE

They are no longer located in downtown Seattle, but I remember them from the mid '70s when I'd come down from Alaska and my dad would have them put a snow plow on his new truck.

Kind of cool that my bumper came from the same place my dad shopped 40 years ago.

Back in the day, I had a Meyers snow plow on the front end of my truck.
Talk about handy when you want to push something around.

Anybody remember the 1950's when bumpers were bumpers?
They built to be bumped.

Fun thread! My father had a '78 and I think '76 Crewcab F-350. The '78 was later converted to a dual rear wheel.

Riv: the truck is really looking good.

if you want to dress up like a LOGGER my gramps wore this outfit maybe 60 years Mon thru Saturday and sometimes Sundays too. he's standing in front of his D9 that isn't any little dozer and he used to cut new logging roads with it and have me on his lap when i was 4-7 or 8 years old.

i didn't have a clue that i could buy a lift to use in my hitch so i'll be on the lookout for one cause it looks pretty handy.

i agree you'll need to maybe find an easier way to move the big rounds around and other heavy items. i'm probably going to buy a lift cart one day in the near future cause i've seen several friends, clients and members use them and save their backs.

cheers

Perspective:

I have always loved trucks.

When i was 13, I wanted a fast truck.

When I was 33, I wanted a truck that could haul heavy loads.

Now that I'm 53, I want a quiet truck.

Funny how things change.

Added a second layer of aluminum faced foam rubber sound insulation to the floor pans this afternoon. Hope it makes a huge difference in dB levels.
y6gq

This is looking good! I have a 1979 C20 LWB that needs an engine and much other work. Was my 1st truck. One day, now that the shop is built.

I'm 37, after having turbo mufflers and glasspacks the last 2 decades, I'm enjoying "quiet truck" now! Seem to get better MPG too. Guess I keep my foot out of it now that there is no inverse sound that follows.

Drives,

Thank you for posting the pics.
Love the dozer, and that log section is crazy big.
Wonder how much that thing weighed???
Great history/family heritage you have there.

Punch list items.....

No big projects today, but too nice an afternoon to not get some stuff done.

I've had a growing list of little items that have been bugging me, so today was the day to knock them out.

1st, I had to check the Vitamin R level in my tool box.

My ignition switch has been hanging out from under the dash for a month. Done.

Then I mounted the high/low beam switch to the floor.

Added a rear view mirror and the passenger side mirrors.

Finally, I mounted the vintage spinner knob to the steering wheel.

Time to start a new list:eyecrazy:

More petty ****.....

This afternoon I cut down a couple buckets to hold a chain, and a spool of nylon flat rope so they stack nicely in my tool box. Then organized my ratchet and tow straps/ lifting cables.

I also picked up a soft side Husky too bag to hold and organize some tools and added some socket sets to the box.

And so I didn't go into rattle can withdrawals, I painted the door threshold trims with -you guessed it- rattle can truck bed liner:shocking: Also painted a 2x2 tube that has become my dump bed prop stick.

Does anybody have any cool ideas on how to store wheel chocks on the truck?

HOTFR8,

Those look great, and I'd love to have the handle. I just haven't seen anything like that.

I'll have to keep my eyes open. How tall are they? My tool boxes are only about 14" tall.

Lots of things come in drums that size. Here it is 20 litres of oil. I have also seen them used for chemicals and fire brigade being foam etc. Even the smaller 4 litre oil container cut down with a handle is great for chains etc. I even cut down the small oil container to keep bolts in etc. as they have a handle. Other containers you could look at would be Auto Coolant or similar. Do you get the idea how much easier they would be than your bucket with no handle!

I use the flat anti-freeze jugs, with a side cut away, for my chain storage.
I think I have about 20 feet of 3/8, with hooks, in one right now.
They lay flat, have a handle, don't rattle, and you can stack them if needed.
Each one has a pair of gloves in it as well.

Loving the old Fords.

My dad has a '73 F-250 4x4 SRW and my neighbor has a '72 F-250 4x4 SRW. I know, not a dually, but awesome memories. I own a '67 Bronco currently.

For maintenance records, we always just wrote them on the headliner as it was always right where you needed it. One year the insurance lady was reviewing the policy on the pickup and couldn't believe that he only drove it about 1,000 miles/year. She was out at the house so he showed her the headliner and told her it doesn't lie. She couldn't argue with 30 years of hand written records.

Kinda like cheat'n.....

Finally cooled off enough this afternoon that I actually felt like do'n something.

Since I decided to go without the top guard on the bumper, the mounting holes needed to be filled. With big rivets.
xJZA

I don't have the technology to install large iron rivets, I need to come up with another plan. It starts with rusty nuts.
0gEm

But I didn't want the totally rusted out look, so they needed some clean up.
Chuck'em up and spin them against the belt sander.

9YA6

'Til they are all purdy and ****.
1uSx

But then they are too shiny. Must apply some blackening solution.
sve1

Then install them with a lot of threadloc

Big rivets, done easy:pimpflash

Old picture. Only thing that would be different externally would be the tires.

My dad's F250 Hi-Boy had cab lights. I told myself as a little kid that one day I was going to have a Ford with cab lights. Had to install them myself.

Rock knocker,

The Greenwood show is great. They close off like 30 blocks, and line cars up on both sides of the street. It's a mass of people from one end to the other. Quite the variety of cars.

1977 F350 Dually flatbed dump trucks were grossly under represented though. I may have to do something about that next year. Gotta have goals:thumbup:

WoodsTruck,

Absolutely love your Bronco!!
Feel free to post pics anytime.

I removed the cab lights from the truck I sold, and plan on installing them on this truck soon.

Coolant containers would work just a well.

I like the finish on the bolts.

The Clearview show is just an improptu gathering at the parking lot of Albertsons/McDonalds on Highway 9. I bet all the regulars were at Greenwood last weekend.

White Center has a nice show on Jubilee Days right after the Fourth.

Riv: just catching up and liking all the improvements. if you put your little tool cases under your tool bag you might have room for wheel chocks in your tool box?

how was the greenwood show and i've never been or heard of it. Downtown Snohomish and Burien used to have some a couple times a year, but can't recall which weekends.

now that i'm KIDLESS IN SEATTLE i'm hoping to maybe have time to catch a few of these.

did you get the boat out yesterday since temps were up around 96 and setting all time heat records for June?
