Anyone have a string trimmer for sale, or know of one? Should have bought one a long time ago, now they are gone!

Ryobi makes a 2 tool outdoor combo kit for $90 that comes with a trimmer, blower, a battery, and charger. Then you'd have the battery and charger for other Ryobi stuff.

Too bad it's toxic shock green and not the nicer Craftsman grey and red. :) Oh no I'm gonna get thrown out of the CM thread for posting a Ryobi tool.

How long ago? I'm have to start checking ace. I really don't want to go to the 24 or 40 volt systems, but that's all they make now. I keep watching ebay too

It was within the last year - maybe around black friday? Ace was running a coupon so I went out of my way to see what they had and found that. They had 3 or 4 on the shelf at that time. I think Ace can be a hit or miss with the Craftsman stuff, so YMMV.

If you're really interested I could make a trip there and see if they have any left. The set was $115 IIRC.

Re: Craftsman 19.2v C3 Kit Price. Good deal?

Why not go with ryobi instead? http://www.homedepot.com/p/Ryobi-One-18-Volt-Lithium-Ion-Ultimate-Combo-Kit-6-Tool-P884/203466936
Since sears is probably going to go under with in the next few years, I doubt the line of powertools will be supported for much longer. Ryobi has a pretty big line and the batteries work with all the tools, even the old blue ones. TTI makes craftsman powertools, ryobi, milfooki, ridgid.

I agree with this. The Craftsman C3 line has an annoying tendency to release a new tool and kill it within a year. It took me a year to find a C3 hedge trimmer because Sears discontinued it.

The Ryobi line keep even poor seeking items around for a long time.

...because I already have a ton of other c3 tools a's I don't want another battery and charger system. And my c3 tools work great. No point in replacing what works.

I may take you up on that, I didn't get a chance to check mine yet. I'll look tomorrow.

I picked up the grinder on Tuesday I am looking forward to using it. I need to pick up some wire &cut off wheels for it at ace.
I bought the grinder a couple months back and used it to strip a vise I bought. Worked like a champ, even with the piece of **** Home Depot stripping wheel. Admittedly not hard use but I see it handling anything I throw at it just fine.

I have the C3 grinder and hedge trimmers. Both of them are beasts and work superbly. Have a pretty god assortment of the C3 platform but have been buying a lot o the Ryobi one stuff also. Since the C3 line seems to not be coming out with anything new lately.

I feel your pain, I had a hard time finding the C3 hedge trimmer and finally found it on Amazon.

Yes it does use the C3 batteries.

This was a father's day gift in 2008 from Sears. It's a little rough in shape...but I had to have it. Found it on OfferUp...got it for $60

How true. The other day I looked at the vacuum and noticed it can also double as a leaf blower. I thought, I'M ORDERING IT! .... No. No, you're not. Not available. :willy_nil

The grinder manual says to use Type 27 wheels. I don't know the difference between Type 27 and Type 1 or other types but the Type 27 stripper fit perfectly.

I've also read that if you mix the right amounts of lead and copper and heat to 1000 deg. F and then flash freeze you get gold.

Freezing / refrigerating batteries does nothing...

If the voltage has dropped too low for it to charge you can try hooking up an old-school battery charger (or jumper it to a spare battery like for a car or atv) to the proper pins to get the voltage high enough for the charger to accept it.

Labor Day is just around the corner, Sears will probably have some good deals then and you might be able to pick up some new Lithium Ions for a reasonable price. Otherwise ebay does sell knockoffs that people have been happy with.

What specifically do you mean by "go dead"?

If you mean they won't hold a full charge, and you have been "topping them off", a few full discharge cycles MAY improve them.

How many charge cycles are on the batteries? NiCads are generally good for 300 to 400 charge cycles before they truly wear out.

2 out of the 6 i have will not take a charge at all. Not sure what happened ut put them on a tool and they are dead. Charger is fine charges all the others.

I assume you mean the charger says it will not charge them? What is the voltage across the battery terminals?

Try putting them in a drill or something, hold down the trigger for a minute or so to discharge the batteries a bit more, then try charging.

I’m alarmed by the number of discontinued C3 tools and the shrinking of the C3 platform. Seems Sears has killed off all but the few basic cordless tools in the combo kits. Even newer products like the LED light have disappeared. Seriously considering jumping ship for another brand. As much as I want to stick with Craftsman, they aren’t giving me much hope of an expanded product line.
