No Yard sales (I haven't even checked) as I spent 5 hours on the road bringing home another table saw. This after selling off 3 of 4, and only keeping the smallest oldest one!

It was a Sears Companion 1936-40, tilting table 7" saw, and I was pretty happy with it as it dd most everything I asked of it! I made a finger joint jig and built the recent camp boxes from Salvaged Oak pallet wood that I also "trued up" on the little 7"er!

Its drawbacks were the tilting table - Not nearly as convenient as a tilting arbor, and the 1/2" arbor made blades/Dados more difficult...

I'd been watching CL for its replacement in the Craftsman lineup that came out in 1037, in both 8 and 10 inch models and was made by Atlas.

Last night I found one a couple hours away, and early this AM I left to go get it.

TaDa!

attachment.php

It even fits the Typing table I planned on using as a stand for the older 7" saw (Like it was made for it), has a 5/8 arbor a fence (the old one was missing its fence so I jury rigged one either from angle or a clamping straightedge guide...).

Its a brute for a smaller saw, 130 lbs without a motor!

This one was missing its miter, until I got home... I actually HAD the Miter in the "collection" - Not one that just fit, (had a couple of those) but the exact miter type/style that came with the saw originally!

The old saw had shallow miter slots, and would not take my Delta tenoning fixture; THIS one it fits great other than I need to move the rail about 1/4"

I gave all the moving parts a quick lube and everything moves smoothly, even the Fence Micrometer!

the ONLY negative Is the motor bracket is broke off and missing, and the riving guide and blade guard is missing.

the Motor plate will be a quick fix with a bolted on door hinge becoming the new motor mount, with gravity proving the tension.

The riving plate is also an easy fix. so I just need to come up with a guard for the blade that goes in the riving plate (Not particularly concerned; my old double T saw never had either...)

I'll want to paint this one; anyone had any luck matching the late 30's early 40's blue Sears used?

Apologies for the harsh lighting in the pics, My camera is messing up on that topic and making things pinkish...

"Craftsman branded 6" combination square. Seems like every time I drag out my 12" combo square, I think, "It would have been easier to do this if I had a 6-inch version. I'd never seen one at an ES before now. It has the spirit level and the scribe (they're always missing the scribe). It doesn't look like a Starrett, but I wonder who made it - no mfg mark. Good shape, just needs a little cleanup and then it's ready to go to work. "

The heart shaped cut-out in the body of the combo square screams Miller's Falls. Older tools with that shape cut-out are generally Goodell-Pratt, but MF continued to use it in places after the merger. MF made a bunch of other stuff (lots of planes with red frogs and no adjusting screws) for craftsman too.

Picked up a Matco mini pick & hook set with the tray at the flea market this morning. It had been sitting there all summer because the seller wouldn't budge on the price. I finally caved in and paid his $20 asking price.

Here it is after cleaning it up.

Will a CM 100-series motor mount work? If so, I have one laying around you can have for shipping costs.

Thanks for the offer, but it won't, The broken bit on the mount is part of the main casting going inside the saw supporting the arbor. Atlas used a completely different design than King-Seeley

P&C 1/2" socket set, thought the sockets are various years, I found on Fri, at an estate sale here in town. It was in a Plomb cub 3/8" box, and juuuuuust barely fit, but I forgot to take a pic of the box. $10. Saturday I found these:

P&C ball peins, both 12 and 16 oz., and a Starrett cabinet scraper, spent $18.
And today I went to an antique faire with the wife and found the box they are sitting on:

That was $17, and I also found this for $30:

And really clean on the inside:

Not a cheap weekend, but worth it. Now, I gotta slow down on the spending... (yeah right.)

Went to Gatlinburg, TN this weekend and of course hit every antique mall nearby and on the way.

Didn't find very much though, but here are the pics.

3 Plomb wrenches for the collection made it worth it.
Plomb 1135, 1214, and 3040 are in the pictures. The rest is a tiny armstrong DBE, a barcalo wrench, a williams 1/2 plug wrench or something like that.

and a whale tool co which i've never heard of, style of vise grip.

Of course a couple cheap vises, who can turn those down. The larger one is a dunlap brand in excellent shape!

Has anyone had any luck matching a rattle can to the late 30's early 40's blue Sears used?

Depending on the yearly paint variant, I've had luck with Valspar Classic Royal Blue #85205. It goes a little more to the red spectrum than I'd like, instead of the green spectrum of the original color. Resulting in a slightly brighter color. But it's the closest that I've found.

However, they discontinued and reformulated it a few years ago. (I'm hoarding the last 3 cans in New England) I haven't had a chance to sample the substitute. The new color is Valspar Project Perfect Classic Royal Blue , Lowes item #760481. YMMV.

(Shake the can well and be aware that Valspar color can be inconsistent between cans)

So, my buddy calls this morning and is mad I didnt ask him to goto the flea yest. So, we went again today! I had spotted a small anthol looking clamp on with about 27 layers of paint on it. Guy had it for $15. Would'nt take any less. I had 10 left on me at thew time and wasnt going to hit an ATM. Left it sitting there. As we are leaving today. most are packing up around mid afternoon. I walked by the same place on the wayout and its still there. I looked around and saw this interesting looking device and it turns out its a craftsman drill bit sharpener attachment. Im guessing maybe for my block grinder. I take it to the guy and ask him what he knows about it. he laughs and says Not a damn thing. But I know you can have that and that little vise for $10 if you stil want it. SOLD!
So, now I need to find out more info on both of these... I cleaned up the little vise and its a Stanley Sweartheart No 761 1 1/2" jaws. Pretty much perfect condition.
The drillbit sharpener attachment is a Craftsman 9-6677. I need to find out how this works. anyone know about it ?
Also found aPlomb PWA 7/8 socket and a P&C 3/8 socket
Dentist pliers for pullin teeth, for when people dont wanna haggle with me
SnapOn 14 mm Combo
Bonney 3/*8 combo

Glad I went back!

Hey Rag, nice haul. You're not even in OTC country! Or maybe you are. They are quite elusive for me. Never see their ratchets locally and people seem to ask way too much online!

I really dig the boxes (you deserve a "you ****" for those alone) but those P&C hammers - they look like NOS! I am not worthy to be in your presence, let along the same state as you!!
Seriously - if you think you can live without them, please keep me in mind!

The breaker bar is the earliest Craftsman tools. C series predates the BE and Circle H stuff. 1920's to early 30's, ended production in '35.

Bmwrd0- you should post the p&c hammers and sockets in the p&c thread in the vintage tool discussion! There are lots of folks who would love to see them ! Those hammers look almost unused and in great shape. I know you also found some extractors last week in their pouch! You are doing very well in finding these hard to find items that most p&c collectors look for years to find! Also make sure to post your plomb boxes in the plomb thread also in the vintage tool section.

Thanks 3bay! I had never noticed any ratchets in the last 2 years I have been hunting. But, once I found that female swivel in a bucket of junk a few weeks ago I have been looking all over for OTC stuff when I go hunt. I like their tools. They have a different look and feel to them. Good quality. And those ratchets are high dollar online man! I looked but didnt buy any. Sure was tempted though!

Here is a couple Snap On boxes I found at a garage sale. It was laying on the floor, hardly any other tools, I would have bought it just for the box, but I lifted it and it was full. No I didn't beat a poor little old lady out of money, he was 30ish, and seemed to know what he was doing. It had a bunch of "Giller" (Thorsen) 1/2" drive, a 3/8 & 1/4" craftsman ratchet, and the little Snap On box w/Snap On 1/4" (what am I missing in this set?) Plus a few "orphans" all for $10.00.

For the the 1/4" snap on socket set check out the catalog section of collectingsnapon.com. The backside of the box may have a year stamp on it which you can most likely use when looking at the catalogs. I picked up this weekend what looks to be the same box dated 1958 complete with all the sockets and a breaker bar, the part number was 113-TM-B according to the 1958 catalog.

bmwrd0, Excellent pick-up on the Plomb box , that thing is in nice shape for its age. Any idea how old?

And this one pleased me as I've been wanting a GOOD drill index for YEARS! Fractional and full of misc, mostly new bits! (Plus a few taps and other things...) Its a Huot!

 I want ! Very nice score Outlaw

Very good weekend for a bunch of folks, I swear it is due to the pent up supply due to the previous holiday weekend.

I'd say you picked up a few killer finds yourself. A wee bit over a hundred bucks for all those solid acquisitions.

I usually gauge my garage sale weekends based on how much snap-on I can manage to collect. i didn't get any this past weekend but I still feel I did pretty good.

100 9Vs and at least 60 AAAs and unseen brand new 3M respirator for $20

Some 24" sanding belts for my 21" sander. Doh! Forgot what size I had. the tap handle and full set of concrete bits were only 1 each also, so I don't feel too bad.

Underlayment for hardwood floors. But I will be using it for my workbench. Adhesive on one side. Works awesome. $5

Brand new Olympia Vice. i don't think anything has ever been in it. $20

But best of all was this craftsman vice. Made by Reed... I think. it even has a tag riveted to it:

"PROPERTY OF
DEFENSE PLANT CORP'N
N INSTUMENTALITY OF THE
UNITED STATES GOV'T
DPC 3A893 SOLAR"

Turns out the Defense plant Corporation went from 1940-1945 to help create manufacturer plants to make war materials. How cool is that?! i paid $3 for the vice. I had to ask him 3 times if that price was correct. I couldn't get my money out fast enough.
