Wow, really. Is this what they sell for in Michigan. I think a $100 is a fair price for that vise with no repairs.
Anyway,I don't know if this would help the OP or you 007 but the spindle handle brake is easily fixed with a set screw, spring and a ball bearing. I had the same problem on my 974 Parker, missing the spring and pad but thanks to everyone in here, they told me how to rebuild it with minimal effort. Found a random ball bearing on my garage floor and found a random small spring in my boots bucket and it worked great!

Great Job
So why isn't this Reed 109 in TX in Sandman or VISEs hands right now??

The condition does not look too bad (it even has the handle brake screw in the nose- hopefully the spring and brake pad are still inside the nose), and from one of the photos you can barley see a fuzzy glimpse of the jaw inserts which do not look too bad but like Gman said earlier you really need to see the vise up close and carefully check it out.
Now it looks like this is a Parker Model # 804 (fixed based) 4". Based on my limited knowledge, it seems the 4" Parkers with swivel base weigh around 50-60 lb (my 204 and 974 weigh around 60 lb) and obviously the fixed ones weigh less (for example my 5" Parker 955 fixed base weighs 85 lb but the 5" 975 with swivel base weighs 105 lb). For this size fixed base parker at $120 CAD (about $100 USD) depending where you live, your might be getting an OK deal (see below).
Based on past comments regarding availability and prices of vises on this tread, it seems definition of a good deal for a vise among other factors depends on
A- What is availability of old vises where you live.
By the way it is a good idea to include your location in your profile. Even though your profile does not state your location, based on the ad (it is from Laval, northern suburbs of Montreal), I am guessing you are somewhere in Quebec most likely within greater Montreal.
For reference, in my geographic location, personally I would consider $30-40 USD a GOOD deal for this vise. You have to judge what is a good deal where you live.
B- How bad do you want the vise.
If old US made vises are rare in your vicinity and you want this vise, I would go and check it out (you can always state to the seller that you will only buy it if it passes inspection).

It appears the jaws are there, but I'd want to see them in person. Parker jaws can be replaced, but if you're not a machinist, the cost will exceed that of buying another vise.
Thanks for the info. I'll be cheking it out on the weekend and decide what i'm gonna do about it bcause 100$ even for a Parker's is way over my budget.
I came across a Columbian Vise that i would be also checking out.

Back to the topic of dynamic slide supports...
After a quick check of a few vises in my collection, I noticed that my Rock Island, Reed, and Craftsman 5191 all had triangular shaped support shelves.
The Athol and the Athol/Starrett had the beefier curved shape.
Anybody else notice this difference? Does this impact the questioning of who made the oft discussed Craftsman 519x vises?![]()

Hi guys,
I'm new to the thread and would really appreciate any help bowdown:
I came across to a PARKER'S VISE near where i live and would like to know if 120$CAD is a fair price to pay; following is the link with pictures.

The only problem with the Vise is that i don't really notice the Jaws shape on the clamps; so i'm kind of shy to pulling the trigger on that one.
Thanks in advance.![]()
Can anyone tell me about these? Only 2 pics I got... looks like it says record on the front... valuable? Never heard of record. What's a good price to buy?
Record are very high quality. You don't find them with the swivel base very often, but it's a nice plus.

Does this one look real? Any indications of a fake?

Was out at yard sale and asked about any old bench vises for sale.
Owner pointed out a vise on shelf, but that he planned to keep it.
Asked if could look at it and we brought it off the shelf.
The good was Prentiss Bulldog No. 92.
The bad was broken/repaired jaw, broken slide and missing swivel base handle.
However, owner got it from a passed away blacksmith shop from the man who was responsible for making the archway at the Newark Ohio Maennerchor (Mr. Luber).
Liked the history and so offered a price, that allowed for a purchase to be made.
Just quick cleanup and oil/lube, as want to keep it similar to how it would have been in Mr. Luber's blacksmith shop.

Hey Mike, I was just in Newark a week ago and picked up a bullet from a gentleman that lived around the corner from the large basket building. First time I'd ever seen that bulding. A very interesting construction marvel!

Road trip today with the Wilton/Anvil magnet. Ran over to Chitown and met Autopts while picking up a very tight C3 ($250!) and a very nice 200lb Fisher anvil! The stand to the right is for the C3 and weighs an easy 100lbs. I'm tired, but happy![]()
Nice score G-Man and you got face time with Nick. Sounds like a great trip.

Agreed, this is fantastic ... great work.As some folks know, there's a thread here on Wilton vise date stamps with 30+ pages of information, data, discussion and conclusions. That finally got to the point where I think the theory is now fact. Since the question comes up a lot, I wrote a summary of what that thread turned up and posted it on my website. Hello all,
I'm looking for some input. I came across a Wilton 600 with stationary base for $600. The vise looks hardly used. It has some surface rust on the top side of the jaws and at the edges of the base. Handle needs a good scrubbing. No other defects noticed. The seller claims it's been in storage for a couple of years, and barely used. Sorry, I did not take pictures.
What do you fellas think something like that is worth?

Follow up question due to your prolific Wilton magnet useI am pretty familar with values of more recent Wiltons, but haven't had many opportunities to purchase the really old ones. Do you think the earlier ones are significantly more valuable? For instance, a 1941-42 No. 3 versus a 1980s 9300. Not sure if the latter date/model reference is correct and know values fluctuate depending on location, but you probably get the gist. Thanks in advance for any info here!!
