re-fixed a mower that I fixed earlier in the season. Considering that I still didn't mow the lawn.

Hung some posters.

put my clamps in the rack I made now that the glue is done drying. Moved some misc **** around and cleaned up. Moved miter saw to its new home. Put the drill press table on finally.

Still can't find a $100 part I put away two weeks ago. Or a $5 bag of screws to go with it.

Making good progress on the tent, despite learning as I go. Yesterday I spent a good chunk of the day cutting and sewing on the car (trailer) top tent project. I made the top (two pieces to get the length...) and the "door frame" Hoped to complete it today but not quit there. I got the hardest part completed which was the "door" and screen, zippers on both ( sewing zippers in curves is a pain...), and they are attached to the top (which at the door opening is the door...) and the two halves of the top are sewn together.

Today I streached that over the support bows, and clipped and pinned the sides on, then trim them to size, and I need to sew them on. Both get a 9 inch zipper at the hinge point so its not torn apart when folding it up, and one gets a window and screen The last sewing part will be sewing the coated rip stop over the wool top.

I've decided I'll put a cord in the very edge. Then its attaching the bottom edges to the platform and adding two small grommets on the corners of the door flap for poles when I want it open.

Yesterday's progress: "door frame":

And second zipper to Door Flap/Top this is from the "inside"

Sides pinned and clipped. What a pain.. Couple of hours to get it right...

After one hell of a busy day at work, I came home and for some reason or another felt a twang of ambition that led me to tackle my hardware/fasteners department in the shop. I don't fancy myself much of a hoarder, but I do keep a wide (ofcourse not by Garage Journal standards) selection of screws, nuts/bolts/washers, and other types of hardware on hand. I had recently bought a couple of Stanley organizers (cheapo plastic ones, but probably not much worse quality than the drawer unit I have been using) and I will probably pick up a couple more seeing as they are currently on sale. They seem to work well for anything 3/8" and smaller in size, which is pretty much what I work with 80% of the time. For the larger stuff, I will probably either build or buy some fashion of smallish bins that I can sort that stuff into later.

Again, it doesn't seem like much, and certainly not even close to as interesting as some of the projects on this forum, but it's probably one that has caused many of us to think "I should do that at some point".

I replaced the turn signal switch, rotated tires and changed the oil on the Jeep. Replaced the water pump and changed the oil on the truck. Made an organizer for my Snap-on puller hardware.

Jobs like sorting hardware to usable/find-able states can be very therapeutic...

I built a hitch carrier for my jet ski recently, a friend saw it and requested a carrier that could carry a ski or a motorcycle so I spent the weekend making it.

Over the weekend I was able to get a lot of little details done in the new shop such as my metal storage rack as well as several tabs/brackets to hang spare welding helmets on, air hoses and extension cords as well as my line trimmer, leaf blower and edger in the attached garage.

In my Shop Projects 2.0 thread on page # 11 is the metal rack. There is a link in my signature.

Hope it is helpful. It is nice utilizing some of my wall space for storage as that is one thing I have plenty of.:D

Also, very nice job on the watercraft hitch carrier. Turned out great.

Last Wednesday I picked up a set of wheels for my 06 Explorer. Found 'em on Craigslist for 125.00 (for 4 of them). Only problem the former owner painted them a metallic purple-ish pink. Original plan was paint them silver and call it done but since these are aluminum plan now is to clean, strip, and polish them. Just got done with a session with the pressure washer and them. More fun tomorrow. Pics as soon as I can figure how to get them from the phone gallery to Chrome.

Ezriderga, I'm curious and possible you've posted about it before, so sorry if this is a repeat. In what way does this one stand out to you?

If you ever drive one you'll know why the Mazda MX-5 roadster is the best selling two-seater sports car (Guinness World Records). It's lightweight (2250lbs) and has a 50/50 weight distribution. Double overheat twin cam and 5 speed transmission. It may not be the fastest car out there but it is one of the most fun to drive/own. I could go on and on...

Very cool, thanks for that! I love my Land Cruiser for its reliability and native capability off road, but I find I like it even more as I wrench deeper into the details and engineering of it. Fault tolerant, sensible, immensely fixable.

The mx-5 driving experience is legend, but you've the first person who's made me think I should really try to get behind the wheel of one some day! Thanks for sharing!

I hung the first of many LED 4' shop lights in the new garage. Uses 70 watts of power to produce 4800 lumens and does a nice job. I can't wait to get them all hung up.

Went through some old work storage and found some more Machinist tools. Wondered where those went ...

Also, grandson was playing with his chalk, and drew a circle around Sophie ... I had to shoo here out of the circle. Very strange ...

So I left off on Sunday's progress, Last night I put some index markers on the side that gets a window, and un-clipped and unpinned it. then I put in the window...

Zipper sewn in. I'm getting better at it, but its still a pain. 20-20 hindsight is I'd probably been just fine with the #8 zipper instead of the largest #10, but its done...

attachment.php

Needs a screen so you have a window frame, and cut the no-see-um screen material, then sew the two together... More fun...:

attachment.php

3/4 of the way sewn on:

attachment.php

complete, and the zipper for letting the thing get folded installed and cut open.

attachment.php

That was it for Monday.

Tonight Sew on 3 of 6 ties to the top so it can be tied to the support bows.. then I re-clipped and pinned the side in place and sewed it on. I indexed the other side, added the last 3 ties to the top, then added the 9" zipper in the middle center bottom edge like the other side., than clipped and pinned it back in place and sewed it on.

It doesn't look like much, but dang! I'm almost there!

attachment.php

Tomorrow I sew on the coated rip-stop (In front), with a cord at the edge on top of the wool top. and assuming I find my roll of 1" webbing, add that to the bottom edge on the inside as a "tackstrip" and its ready for installation!

Last night I moved the last 15-18 boxes of stuff from my old shop into my new shop and got them organized and put away. Finally feel like I am done with the shop.

Now I can start working on projects and getting things knocked off my to do list.

Is that a '37? What are the plans for it?

39 Business Coupe. I honestly do't know where I'm going yet. I'd like to do it fairly traditional like a moonshiner from the 50's.

I have a 428FE in a T-Bird that I'd like to use but it's going to be so much work to fit it in. I may just try to find a Y-block. It will stay Ford/Ford.

Ford swap meet Columbus, Ohio at the State fairgrounds, Nov 25-26 might yield you something.

Very cool. I love the moonshiner look and the traditional approach. I'm a Ford guy so I'm glad to hear you will keep Ford drivetrain. I'll be following along on your garage thread.

Setting up to do some stained glass. I haven't done any in 30 years or so, all my tools have to be cleaned. I've still got glass and lead, all the soldier I could ever use. I had to make a new light box. I recessed some 1/4 glass into my workbench.

Really wanted an upper sash with horns but found a bottom sash that was close enough to the overall dimensions of 33 X 21

My son's getting this for his new home. The window he wants to hang it in front of is in a closet. It just happens to be the only upstairs window facing the street. He wants the neighbors to see the window, cause all the other homes on the street have something in that location. It faces south gets sun all day, so I'm using darker colors.

If you happen to be in the closet, the colors will be vivid and cast across the entire closet. :dunno:

This is what horned upper sash looks like. Mostly 1920's and earlier. The sash I'm using is from the 40's or 50's. It had aluminum weather stripping routed in the sides and top.

No pics, but last night i started setting up for sewing the water proof coated rip stop over the top of the tent. Because its got 5 bends in it I could not get the thing lined up right. so I stopped and after work today, carried the thing out and mocked it up on the tent bow supports and draped the rip stop over and clipped it in place with binder clips. Took over an hour!

Dragged it back inside and setup for stitching the folded over edges. Do you know I used the full width of the coated rip stop with NOTHING trimmed off the edges? I'll have a few inches of scrap on one end and that's it!

Then I got SWMBO and my eldest daughter to help hold and drag the mass while I ran the sewing machine. got both edges done! we stopped there for the night. I still need to sew the ends but that is a relatively simple job compared to what I've been doing... The last of the sewing after that is the bottom edge for the part that gets tacked to the wood of the platform I still need to find the roll of nylon webbing to go buy some...

It should be done, installed and ready for use sometime this weekend! In two weeks I'll be sleeping in it!

Installed a GPS in my boat. Simplified and complicated by the fact that there is a fish finder which came with the boat which I am leaving in place. That will give me two separate screens. The F.F. resides in the choice real estate, but I don't have to worry about running a transducer.
I decided to make a stainless bracket and mount the GPS alongside and somewhat below the FF.

Used a cardboard template to determine location, pulled out a stainless plate, marked it off, drilled holes, used a cut off wheel to get the pattern close and ground to final dimensions. Some wire hook-ups and done.

Burning up personal time today before the end of the year. I was planning on working in the basement but it started raining (different than what you think) so I'm just messing around on the garage laptop before I go into work.

I can use the break, unloading those 80lb of Quikrete the night before made the back a lil sore... yeah, all 45 of them and 3 bags of Portland Cement

Today I spent longer than I care to admit diagnosing what turned out to be a faulty air filter on the atv. It started giving me trouble yesterday around mid day, after admittedly sitting for at least two months.

While I had things apart, I topped up the coolant, checked the oil (which was surprisingly clean), and gave the inside of the plastics a good cleaning with some degreaser. It's an old bike, but I don't think we have any plans to replace it. If we do, I'd rather buy a compact tractor with loader and maybe a blower, as it's really just used for snow and moving trailers around the yard.

First post. I don't think I'll ever post pics of my shop. It is somewhat organized chaos and not pretty like so many on here. I'm in awe of the garages on here. Anyway, last night and this morning I finished assembling my blast cabinet, sealed all the seams and tried it out. Fantastic to have the ability to clean cruddy parts. Glass beaded a couple of parts for my KZ750 restore and was very pleased. Now to tackle the burned out lights in my shop. The previous owner installed a great array of flouroscents but I haven't kept up over the last year or so and the result is it's getting dark in there. Not the rest of today though; I have the trailer hooked up and will be moving my son and his girlfriend into their new apartment. Cheers all,

Bill

Welcome Bill,

For the Florescents, consider replacing them with LED Shop lights. Unimaginable difference in light, and essentially maintenance free...

Cut some chair rail and trim for the living room. Dragged out my chainsaw to cut a dead dogwood tree. Started wrestling a tire off a wheel, but my interest and energy played out before the tire agreed to being removed. I'll tackle it again in the morning.
