Thanks. Wish I was working on a cool project IN my shop like you are but I'm forced to continue my overly fancy work ON my shop.
I enjoy the trim work, trying to go slow and enjoy the ride. I stained another set of boards last night and hope to finish up cabinet shelves this weekend.

Well I blew my 49 into pieces before the shop was "finished". I'll get back on that this winter sometime.

Hmm, not a bad idea. Just need to finish a few more things....

I helped my neighbor fab a 2nd battery mount for his taco. He brought over some cardboard templates and within a hour we had most of the pieces cut, drilled, fitted and welded. Used the plasma to cut the odd shape out of 3/16 plate. It is very nice to have 220v power and air system done so I can just flip the power switch and go to work. I have cut enough stuff with the plasma now to have my basic skills down on a variety of material thicknesses.

I finally started the motorcycle fork seal job. I removed the forks and started disassembly. Need to finish before starting any dirty jobs.

Wow, I had not checked in for awhile, the shop is looking great. I love the metal! Some details in here I am going to have to borrow in my shop. Also, nice fix on the new welder I hadn’t thought about changing out the tips, another reason for me to get a new metal lathe!

Thanks Duker. Now with the shelf up I am happy with the result of the sheet metal on the forward wall. The trim work has gone a little overboard. I think I passed 'it's just a shop' awhile ago. Now I have to upgrade the house and barn too.
The spoolmate issues are well documented on the welding forums. Still haven't got the hang of spray transfer on AL yet. But, yes another reason for a new lathe!

Old vertical rack gone, sheet material moved in. I think this area is done.

Shelving added to cabinets, and filled with **** (just need doors....). Most shelves are movable.

Motorcycle in middle of front fork rebuild.

I need to find an old blower case to go with the turbo and n20 tank. If anyone has a junk case send me a PM.

Built audio rack v2.0 this weekend. It also holds a mini fridge, as beverages are a high importance item as well as music.

I built a frame out of 1x3 16 ga steel. Wish I has a nice flat welding table for stuff like this, but got the job done on the floor. The Rage chop make nice cuts and I like not having to clean the slag from flux wire. Still building skills with my MM211 so I practiced on some scraps beforehand. The sides are 20ga sheet metal.


After lots of grinding and sanding I applied a rattle can paint job. It came out below my standards, but acceptable enough.

Installed the rack rails and equipment. The frige in my barn took a dump so I think I will move this brown/woodgain one out there and get something else for the shop. Then additional rack rails in between and fill with shelves and drawers.

Color isn't perfect match to HF tool box but close enough.

Thanks, and yes I guess it does actually rock. I really like that I can blast my music at any hour as loud as I want.
Not sure what people who walk down the road think of me and my pounding music. I go from Slayer to Pink Floyd to Kid Rock.

I changed oil in SWMBO's chariot after asking politely how long the 'oil change required' message had been displayed. The lift makes the job easy.

Next was my motorcycle, which is a PITA. I has 3 drain plugs, and is lowered so drain pan won't fit under it. I have the OEM manual, it states 'fill with recommended quantity'. On the next page, it then says 'add only 3L and start engine before filling with remaining amount. You can imagine what happened last time.
New spark plugs to go in it tonight. Have to partially remove fuel tank to get at one of them. It has 2 plugs per hole.

Thanks Mike. I somewhat randomly picked this color for the shelf brackets and decided to continue with it. I'm not a rustoleum fan, the product has issues. To do good job I would have needed to get out the HVLP.

Installed a 3U drawer in the rack. A mathematical computation error from the engineering department caused the procurement department to order the wrong length rack rails (2U too short). The installer put it in anyhow knowing the QC guy would be pissed.
Anyhow, here it is with the new mini fridge and drawer.

Some of my new toys really help productivity, but above that the cooler temps really make it a pleasure.

Weekend project was air compressor hut v2.0. I pondered construction methods for a long time, and eventually arrived on a design that was 'good enough'. I wanted the roof to be higher than v1.0, which was right at eyeball height. Since the roof is steel it could do some harm.... I bought the corrugated bare steel quite awhile ago in 6' lengths which was now too short.
Since I knew exactly how to cut an assembly things the actual construction of the frame went quickly without any Engineering Change Orders (ECOs). I wanted the sheet metal on the door side to be one piece, and overlap the front corner so the door was designed a little odd. The back is open for ventilation, it needed cross bracing in that plane as it supports the door when open.

I built the frame in the shop and then assembled the chunks on the slab. I used 3/8 readheads to secure the bottom plate



I figured this project needed a cool door latch mechanism so I came up with a $0 solution. I welded a nut in the end of the spindle, so it is retained in the axial direction with the arm and a bolt. The bolt is tapped and uses a jam nut to leave the joint loose. I made the arm long enough to minimize the bolt's z direction deflection without having to over complicate the link. The deflection limits back travel so the bolt doesn't fall out. Lastly I sanded to speed up the rust process.

The slab is 36x36 and the steel width is one extra rib for overlap. I was able to bend the extra over the corners and not have to use a trim piece. It's hard to find flashing that is supposed to rust.
I shoved some shims under the door before attaching the skin to pre-load it. The door and latch work well and can be opened/closed with one hand.

I diluted some muratic acid and applied with a spray bottle to remove the oil film on the steel, and accelerate the rusting reaction.

I see the side against the building is open and the corrugated roof allows for some passive ventilation, but with our heat do you think there will be enough heat evacuation? Of course it also depends as to how frequently the compressor will be running. I'm going to do something similar - fortunately my enclosure will be on either the north or east side of the shop, so benefiting from a mostly shaded location.

Which F250? Assuming the 72, the wife has imposed her wishes against turning it into the giant beast I had planned... so I have a few options
1) Convert to 4wd anyway ($$$$)
2) Build the motor and leave 2wd
3) Fix a/c and leave as is. Buy a tube frame rock buggy as a trail rig.

With one side open the heat FROM the compressor can escape. The metal hut itself now generates heat. My contingency plan is to add rigid foam but I don't think it is necessary.
The whole tank gets pretty hot when running continuously, hotter than the sun would get it in or out of the hut. I think it will be fine for another 20 years given how I use it.

That fits right in with the Harbor Freight tool cabinets. I have been eyeballing the 44" model...

Occasionally Engineering makes errors. But the Installer executed it well! The only thing that QC noticed was the runs in the paint...

I think it's funny in your climate that you sprayed acid on galvanized metal to MAKE it RUST. In the Gulf South, nature will create the rust without any assistance!

Yes, here in the desert spray paint dries very quickly but rust takes some extra effort
I'm trying to keep the rust an accent and not over do it.

I've got a pair of cabinet door frames built from 1 x 3 x 0.065. Can't decide on a frame color, so I think I may prep this pair for a bare metal finish (the most work option) and finish with flat clear. Going to get one sheet of white hardboard to hack up and see how it looks.

Also working on the mustang hood door overhang project. This hood came from the 69 Mach 1 that my dad and I built long ago. Back then it got a acid dip and primer but was too far gone.
Plain is too boring for me so I built a 1980s style sheet metal hood scoop. I was going for aggressive, redneck/motorhead look like what would have been on a ************* 80s Camero when I was in high school. You know, the primered turd with no dash and a tunnel ran on a worn out stock 350. Not quite Joe Dirt, but similar. Driven by a long haired dude like Todd from Bevis and Butthead (although he drove a Duster)

I used leftover sheet from the wall project, so $0.
