Hey guys, they showed up today. The chrome is gorgeous. That good ole USA engraved in big letters on the back of each one.

It’s one of those things, when you need em, you need em. I don’t use them often in auto repair, but am looking to get into ag and larger vehicle repair so needed at least the SAE (have a set of USA Metric raised panel which I’ll be selling on EBay as these are nicer!!)

Anyway, glad I could give back to the community that has helped me build my tool collection along with my skills on a budget 👍👍

Ordered a couple different sets, thanks for posting!

Outlet stores have some interesting stuff from time to time... Last year I saw a store in California have a nice BIG set of combo wrenches that had to be USA because the set # was discontinued before they went overseas... I guess it got lost in the back of a normal store so they ended up selling it through the outlet store.

That large wrench set is a heck of a deal...but not if I don't use them. What do you guys work on that need the oddball 2xmm and 30+ mm sizes? Seems that this nice set would actually be a waste of money for the homeowner-hobbyist like myself.

Offshore Oil Rig maybe?

Don't know, but having the "empty" slots in my tool chest is calling out to buy these large wrenches. :)

I have several of the bigger sized wrenches. I haven't really found a use for them yet. Sometimes I pick them up or just look at them in my toolbox and think, "If you can dodge a wrench you can dodge a ball".

I run into stuff all the time I need larger sizes like this, both on vehicles and around the house. Resorting to an adjustable wrench is soul torture.

Two things off the top of my head...

32mm rear axle nut on sport bike
1 1/8" spindle/blade bolt on mowing deck

I have sockets for both and can't see ever using a wrench. So I passed.

For big wrenching I have a 10-inch Knipex pliers wrench. This maxes out at 1.75 inches so if I need a large *wrench* this does the job without torturing my soul too much.

More likely is that I'll need a large socket for some odd job. For example, I recently needed to rebuild my water main's pressure reducing valve which required some larger 2xmm socket. A cheap (but nice) Sunex impact set supplied the necessary socket. Even more recently a concrete truck broke the water main connection to the pressure reducing valve. The above-mentioned Knipex pliers wrench did the job there.

Although part of me would like to be prepared for the possibility that my homeowner-hobbyist needs could include offshore oil rig repair in the future, I guess I'll have to leave some open space in my tool drawers and pass on this nice deal. Darn!

Thanks for posting... in for a set.

Any thoughts on the Cross-Force sets also listed? A few years back, I used the Gearwrench equivalent at a friend's garage... definitely comfortable to use. I think I saw a recent post about Astro having something similar...

I have the full set of Cross-Force. I bought them piece-by-piece, when Sears was selling the open stock Industrials on the website cheap. Bought them one-by-one with surprise points, and built up the entire set of Metric for free. That was a couple years ago.

I've used them a couple times, more just to try them. They are comfortable, but they are kind of thick in the middle, and the way they work makes them difficult to use in tight spaces like in a tight engine compartment. A regular combination wrench works much better in tight spaces.

The Cross-Force would work well in an area where you have lots of clearance and needed lots of leverage. So they are somewhat of a special purpose tool.

I guess they are kind of like getting the large wrenches. Nice to have in the tool chest, but they will see very limited (if any) use over the years.

I would grab a set of the crossforce if they didn't skip 19mm and 3/4

Thanks for the guidance... I have decent sets of 'regular' and ratcheting wrenches... and tend to agree with you that they're probably best for specific applications... so I will pass, for now. But I will keep an eye on the PartsDirect website to see if they come down in price.

Better to have them and NOT need them RATHER THAN to need them and NOT have them!

Unless your storage is constrained, or you're on a lease and might have to move.

I passed on this, I have a large Williams set from Taiwan for metric (thanks, Amazon Warehouse), and I happen to have a giant 1 1/2" crowfoot, I think I got it from Cripe for like $4, so I have most of these sizes.

Went to my hometown store to pick up my pair of crescent wrenches (10" & 12" combo pack)... Was walking around the tool area and just about all the USA stuff is gone, those were the last USA crescents I got... For $10 out the door after I used some points I had.

There were still some big packs of the screwdrivers, and while all the packs of sockets and wrenches were China, I noticed a few individual sockets / wrenches were USA.

He actually had a pretty good selection of their usual holiday tools like last year.

The USA pliers are all gone at my local store, about the only thing left that's USA are the screwdrivers, punches/chisels, and hammers. They're closing my store on Jan. 28, so roughly 40% of the displays are empty. Lots of those cardboard holiday displays in the aisles, though. Truthfully, I've shopped there so many times over the last few years, there's not much there I need. It's been nice having a fallback, in case I'm in the middle of a job and need a socket size that I don't have, within bicycle distance. I guess Autozone will fill that void.

Screwdrivers are all China now too. USA is officially old stock if you see it. Good luck with warranty in the future on the premium rubber grip ones with the red/blue/clear shaft bases. They are totally done no Chinese replacement.

The stores they aren't closing brought in new display holders for the Chinese since they don't come with the plastic peg holders anymore.

That said, does anyone know if the red smooth plastic non striking cap pry bars below are still USA? They are order online only, know they used to be USA but the single ones at Kmart I saw were Taiwan.

I know these are Taiwan now for example.

While I know these are still USA if you can find them, but they aren't available in my area, since I have no hometown stores and Sears hasn't sold them in years.

That can't be good for the people at Western Forge.

In April 2017, Ideal declined to renew its contract with Sears and stopped supplying it with tools...

WF is a subsidiary of Ideal...

I can understand them pulling out given Sears' financial situation and who knows if they have even been able to keep up payments to Ideal before they got cut off...

I'd forgotten that - hopefully, red/blue/clear is more than made up for by dark green.

I'm waiting for the Craftsman Cushion Grip screwdrivers to go on half price sale again. Those are the LAST of the USA Craftsman. The Craftsman Professional went away, then the Craftsman Acetate handles went away. The Cushion Grips are the only USA screwdrivers anymore, and it doesn't look like they are making them anymore. I see the stock dwindling, but since the Cushion Grips have typically been a slow moving item, they still are in many Sears stores.

I bet Ideal was done with Craftsman after the brand was bought up by competitor Stanley/B&D. The same probably goes for other manufacturers such as Nupla (Power Drive® hammers).

I was helping a friend find something for his shoe surprise points, and I think these steel toe work shoes might be a good price with the free shipping.

Wolverine Men's Exert DuraShocks Steel Toe EH Opanka Work Shoe W04373 - Brown $35

Thanks. I have several footwear FreeCash offers for Sears that bring them down to $20. Last time I used a shoe offer was on their made in the USA Craftsman rubber boots. Pretty happy with that purchase.

I did notice some of the Gladiator products in store had dropped in price. Some were 50% off, some were only a couple more dollars than when first marked down. Wasn't happy with the displays, so I passed by fairly quick. My store had a lot of new sale tags up, though all came up regular price that had to be over-rode, but it seems liked they wre trying to clear a bunch of sections out. Drill bits, safety goggles, router bits were all ~50% off. With how little of stock they had, it felt like they were going out of business (well to some degree, they are as a company).

With FreeCash, the shoes come down to $21 shipped. Lots of bad reviews on Amazon. Like they feel like wearing lead shoes, aching feet and back, soles coming unglued. On the fence, even for 20 bucks. Reviews seem to say the Boot version of this is better, but the Shoes aren't good.

I was watching the 118 piece 6 point mechanics set (Item # 00934118000P Model # 34118). Was showing up as an online hotdeal at $50. I somehow got $25 instant free buck points taking it down to $25. List is $120 so the $50 price was well beyond 50% off list.

They are made in China, but $25 for a set with 2 ratchets and 72 sockets seems like a good deal even by Harbor Freight standards. It's nice that this set did not inflate the piece count by including a zillion 1/4 inch hex bits for the screwdriver.

Kevin.

Sears has $10 back in surprise points for every $40 spent, after points & coupons. I bought a few things on Monday, that are still on sale, but make more sense to buy now.

I ordered these impacts on Monday, but I just had Sears cancel it, and now am placing it again. After points & Q, I'll be down to $80.** (same as original order), but will also get $20 back in points.

Craftsman 48-piece impact sockets - $99.99
