Re: What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Replaced my transmission breathers, along with doing some touch-up on my drive shafts and replacing the transmission fill tube O-ring. Little things in my punch list to put the transmission back in the truck and test the rebuild.

Last pic shows the transmission fill tube temporary installed to show how the breather lines run. The transmission is engineered to operate under water, so they designed a way to deal with fast temp/pressure changes and located the breather outlet in a nice high spot. I imagine folks who install snorkels on these things for extreme water fording also relocate these breather outlets even higher.

The punch list is also so I don't forget something stupid like replacing the oil filter and putting oil back in the engine (or the transfer case) etc.

They are mountable? :ninja:

Edit: Dang, never looked on the bottom...

Depends on the Model of Charger. The DCB112 shown in the picture has Keyholes for mounting.

The DCB101 does not. But I found the hole size of the "feet" on the back can be tapped 3/8-16 and you can through bolt them.

I love that stainless top and backsplash/pegboard. Very nice look.

Thank you!!!!

The Top is Stainless. The Backs are custom perforated .125 5052-H32 Aluminum. We had some extra sheet stock at work so I wrote a couple of programs for our Turrets and punched them out adding cutouts for the outlets and switches.

Welded the bench up at home in the shop.

Phantom, Your baffle need some holes, or better still a one way gate from the "open" side to the pickup side at the bottom...

I'd also consider a side to side vent at the very top of the baffle.

Or lose the baffle complexity can get race fuel cell foam suitable for gasoline. Are you putting in an access plate on top like fuel cells use?

I drilled more 1/4" holes 1" up from the bottom and all up the rear slope. Will be doing similar to the top more so.

Yes it's getting an ancess plate on the top once I figure out where the filler tube and fuel gauge sender is gonna go.

I have had this truck thru 2 serious girlfriends and 16 years, Redemption is gonna be happening!

Where are you sourcing the boards?

Menards carries rough cut pine. I stained them to look old. Simple procedure. I first brush water on the board. Then immediately brush on stain. Then wipe the board off. More water means less stain can soak in. Gave me the look I want and the procedure is easy.

Got tired of getting on and off the tractor to adjust or change the snow blower chute up/down settings. Bought a 4" stroke linear actuator and installed it on the Kubota blower as a chute deflector.
Basic steps were; Position actuator on chute to get full up/down with 4 inch piston travel. Determine where power will come from. (This Kubota had a 12V connection by the rear tail light that could be tapped into) Added a 5a inline fuse. Determine where the switch (DP/DT) will go, in this case near the joy stick which controls the other blower functions.
Tested it on 12 inches of fresh snow and it worked well.

Opened the overhead door and shifted some junk around to get the plow (that I had not had a chance to touch up with paint yet) out so that I could clear some snow. New plow shim my uncle welded up for me last week worked flawlessly today allowing me to once again be able to back-drag with the atv, which makes life so much easier.

After that, I went in and put some sockets away that were being relocated to the toolbox.

Set up 2 file cabinets for storage of excess stuff in the shop, and also to store stuff that doesn't get used that often. The price for the file cabinets was right.... K

Sold off the old florescent lights that were replaced by these.

Are those for the T12 lights or the T5 lights?

T12's by Liteway. Big box store cheapies bought 20 years ago shortly after the house was built. I had a few die over the past five years and replaced them with more big box store cheapies.

I briefly considered T5 HO's last year and I'm glad I skipped them. I tried a couple of the Feit's instead and was hooked. When the pallets showed up at Costco again this Fall I bought in batches of 10 and replaced them all.

EDIT: I seem from Outlawmws' post below I may have misunderstood. Yes, the entire fixture was replaced, not just the tubes. I really dislike tubes with their finicky pins and sensitive positioning. Glad they're all gone.

My daughter just had new tires installed on her Mazda. The RR is leaking down over night. She sprayed some Windex on the outer bead and there was bubbles. So, it is back to the tire store in the morning.
Today, we put air in her tire and she left her car near the shop.

File cabinets are one of those purchases of opportunity. Useful but expensive when needed, a burden when not needed.

I love waiting to hit the "someone else's burden" sweet spot. I keep waiting for replacement for some I had and gave away... 4 x high lateral, open shelf with full extension slides, and a hideaway cover door ... Perfect for handheld power tools

I've got a three drawer lateral I got from Freecycle I use for that. I'd have gone higher, but it needed to slide under some storage...

Made use of a Black Friday deal and built another deck panel for my lift. https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=6849829#post6849829

Took the ladder apart

Disassemnled.jpg

Took me a bit to find a correct sized "pipe" to use for pinning everything together as this ladder was a different size than the one I used to make the first decking section for my lift. Got something that would work and pinned the two sections together so I could mark it and start cutting it to size.

Mark%20and%20Cut%20Pinned.jpg

After the cutting the two sections into four pieces, pinned it together, made the final marks and cuts.

Rough%20Pinned.jpg

The pipe wasn't as rigid and the fit wasn't as tight as the pipe I used on the first deck section I put together so I had to screw the section together in addition to pinning them together with the pipe.

Screwed%20Together.jpg

Slid the frame into place under the car on the lift up against the original deck panel.

Fitted%20WO%20Deck.jpg

Cut the 3/4 ply sheet which fits on top and slid it into place and was done. Finished panel was 68"x39"

Unfortunately I didn't get a stinkin' thing done in the shop over the weekend. Saturday I went with the wife to get a good share of our Christmas shopping complete. Yesterday we went to breakfast with my cousin and his wife and visited then went back to their place as he had some questions about a car he is restoring. When the wife and I returned home mid-afternoon rather than go out into the shop we went for a walk as it was about 38-degrees outside and the sun was shining, figured we wouldn't get many more days like that.

All in all a pretty nice weekend despite not getting out in the shop.

I just bought a bunch of the Feit's from Costco. Did you just use the plug that comes with them to link them or did you hard wire them?
Thanks

Decon was Iron X for chemical, then Maguires clay bar and Nanoskin 6” pad. DA used was a Rupes LHR 21, 75e, and a HF 5”. Pads were UroFiber 3/5/&6”. First pass was with M105 and followed by HDSpeed. Then wiped with IPA and coated with Wolfgang Uber Ceramic. Cleaned pads after job was done...I keep about 10 of each pad on hand for the job so I don’t have to clean on the fly. Microfiber towels are the edgeless from The Rag Company. And buffing towels are from CG.

Cleaned it all up good as I grabbed a quicker 5 shifts of night shifts on a job this week just outside of the city. Hate coming home daily and putting my car in a war zone of tools and parts. Beered up the fridge for one a morning.

Uncovered the old snow blower and found the gear selector didn't want to move. Seemed to be stuck somewhere under/inside the drive housing.

So I removed the bottom panel and out fell about a pillows worth of mouse stuffings, **** and who knows what. :wtf: I think it must have been a family of 8.

So I got rid of all that **** and then proceeded to lube and eventually freed up the lower shift rod. Then lubed the rest of the snow blower. Fired it up and let it run and tested.

Ready to go now.

I installed 4 of the 6 feit lights I got at Costco a few months back.
Very bright and for 20 bucks a piece, you can't beat the price.

After the grand-kiddos got picked up: glued up some lumber for an upcoming project, rearranged several items on the pegboard and used the leaf blower to blow the leaves and junk that blew in during the recent Santa Ana winds. Amazing what comes in when you back a vehicle out.

Straightened up some, taking care of some craft show remnants for the Missus. Didn't actually get to work on the transmission prep, but made arrangements for help installing it for Saturday, so I'm committed, weather permitting. What a relief that will be!

Hung the collet rack, collets were on sale 100 bucks off, good reason to fill the great collet gap .... Oh and moved the pencil sharper, put a decorative knob on the catch drawer, better homes and gardens called wanting to do a photo shoot of the PS.

I know what you mean, I swapped mine too a long time ago and having a lever handle is great when your hands are dirty or holding a bunch of stuff.

I recently went from cheap gold knobs to black levers in my whole house, of course that meant black hinges and black door stops. Just under $1000, but looks great and more user friendly.
