Also, the Lisle mechanic's stethoscope is on sale for $7.92, about 50% off the regular price of $16. And it's not marked as an online-only price or a Hot Buy. I think I'm going to go get that at my local store today [Feb 15, 2018]...

The stethoscope (which was actually branded Craftsman, though made by Lisle) doesn't come with a storage case and the packaging is not reusable. So today I bought one of the nice Permanex storage cases, the 12in size (11in usable internal length), which is juuust big enough to store the stethoscope in. Online price after additional online-only 10% off is currently $6.29, so I'd thought it would be $6.99 in-store... was actually $7.49 in-store but I went ahead and got it anyway...

I was buying in-store, instead of ordering online for pickup, in the hopes of getting this week's bounceback coupon. Well, no such luck, I got left out again just like last weekend. I saw my store had some of the coupon cards sitting at the register, so they must be giving them to somebody there still, but neither me nor the person in front of me got lucky. It did give me a 'consolation prize' coupon of $10 off $20 valid Feb 26-Mar 4, so hopefully I can manage to reaccumulate $10+ of points by then to use with it just as good as a $10 off $10 coupon would've been.

I sure do hate to see this. This is easily the best water hose Ive ever used and I have bought up several spares but I wish I wouldve bought more now... May go check the local store and see what they have left...

A post above said the new ones have brass fittings whereas the old ones were nickel plated brass (silver color).

If you order from that product page which says the product was just added last week, you are sure to get the new version from China. If you can find the product page for the old US version that had a different item/model number, and if Sears hasn't disabled ordering on it, you might still be able to get one shipped to your home from a store that still has some left. At least Sears had the decency to change the item/model number this time, unlike what they've done with other products that had some fairly significant origin and/or design changes over the years.

I'm thinking the HomeTown I go to out of town might still have some of the old, otherwise I'll consider myself set with the 500 ft. plus I already have.

I purchased a craftsman rubber hose many years ago. Lifetime guarantee. Replaced it once. Problem is on both hoses, my hands turn black from the rubber every time I touch it.

I get a little black on my hands, but I also attribute that to them being used outside & them getting dirty that way, as the surface isn't as smooth/more porous than a vinyl based hose.

I might pick up a new one to see how it feels, but I am more inclined to make 2 hoses out of 1 if I do ever have an issue. Doubtful I'll have a problem before Sears tanks.

I don't think anybody can give a great answer to that yet. You would think they would be of a decent quality if they were going to still lifetime warranty the new ones, though as far as I know garden tool warranty expire the days Sears does. I have no expertise on the metallurgy of the ends, though I do know my USA ones collect minerals like crazy on my city water & stay clean on the farm. Don't believe that has anything to do with the material, but can't be certain.

On the note about garden tools, I have not seen any restocking of any of the Craftsman Garden Tools. Maybe that is the next wave to come in replacements. I have gone to ordering some Bully Tools over the last year, though not just because of inventory. Good quality. Putting together my new broad fork this week.

That has been a common issue with many black rubber hoses (not just Craftsman, and not just garden hoses) for many years. Though some users aren't bothered by it, it's obviously not ideal. I think it is a side effect of the manufacturing process, using carbon particles mixed into the rubber to try to make it more UV/heat/stress-resistant, the same as how automotive tires are made. You could try wiping down the hose with something like Simple Green to get rid of most of the loose particles at the surface for a while, but I think more will gradually migrate out again.

Yes the downside is they will make your hands black if you handle them a lot. But these hoses do last forever, my parents have one that must easily be 10+ years old, gets used near daily, is left outside year round, and still looks like new.

Ok, I haven't worked in a tire shop. Maybe it's better stabilized in tires than these hoses. (And older tires do start to release some particles later in life from the microscopic effects of stress, fwiw.) But it is a fact of how the rubber is manufactured, and the most likely explanation for what happens with a lot of black hoses.

(Oh, and even wiper blades can be affected by this - obviously manufacturers try harder to keep it chemically stabilized in those, since smearing black stuff all over people's windshields is bad - but I bought a pair some years back that were doing that fresh out of the package, and after cleaning them repeatedly it had lessened some but not stopped, so I gave up and exchanged them. The replacements were fine, guess they just got the mix wrong one day at the factory.)

I have 3 HF air hoses that do this. Ive cleaned them 3x now. My hands still turn black. I just wash my hands of wear gloves now.
