HEFF: i know you probably have 80 degree weather and no snow like we have today, but still hoping you get the roofs repaired before your MONSOONS show up.

i can't fathom the amount of cash you are spending to put all that cool landscaping in and then buying all the new benches, toolboxes and tools for your shop, but it all looks like a million bucks so WELL DONE!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Thanks! Sorry for the delay I was up in the cold tundra of the mid atlantic for holiday! Just got back a couple days ago. We ripped out my kitchen ceiling which had this awful tray that was totally unbalanced... My contractor really impressed me and got it mostly completed in time! Just cleaning up the dust. No matter how much you cover stuff dust just gets everywhere!

Not much has changed in the garage. Just still cleaning up and organizing. I have my parts list but getting my erector who is also a metal roofing guy is nearly impossible. I asked him what he drank so I could get him a nice bottle and have it here for him when he showed up. Didn't work :(.

The one thing that did get done just before I left was the new AC unit. The contractor originally put in a 3 ton and it wouldn't stop running. I had him upgrade it to a 5 ton and it hasn't been hot here since :)

Figures right? We will see how it performs next summer (here summer starts in about 60 days :)

I want to hang some more wood and work on mounting all my chargers on a panel but I don't think its going to happen because when I spray foam the roof after repairs I want to thicken up what is still exposed at the same time. I can still feel heat on the roof and some of the walls so any additional can help!

Thanks! I got my speakers mounted about my workbench a couple days ago. Also got the bench cleared off after this picture and wired up the speakers. It’s amazing how much louder these are vs the hanging pendants. When I replace the purlins I might not put them back up and just use the indoor outdoors over the bench. 541db11b6eec0eb22935d6e8f978b3af.jpg63c770fd1d893f7565aac2ab6663e1cf.jpg84c6a07422bb9f5480a54f2f55d0218f.jpg

Is that an extended cab or crew cab Raptor? My wife and I bought a 2017 crew cab Raptor in September and it has become her daily driver. It is an awesome vehicle!

My post didn't make it up! I replied - sorry!

Its a supercrew. I sold my 2004 Dodge 1500 Sport with like 64k miles on it to a friend. It was very hard to give up that truck but technology wise it was behind and I wanted to get with this or the next decade! It isn't my daily driver - but I did haul 300 feet of electrical conduit the other day. I will use it for transporting stuff until my son turns 16 in 6 years and then he will destroy it :(

Got my putco blade installed in my truck. First pic is just plugged. Took me a good 4 plus hours wiring it up right with flexloom and lots of tape. Hopefully it lasts the next 15 years!

These things are tough- seriously. My wife was driving to work 10 days after we bought the truck and got rear ended by a dump truck towing a trailer with a paver. My wife didn't even get a scratch on her. The only damage was to the bed and a small amount of damage to the frame. Because the truck was so new they didn't even try to repair the frame. They actually replaced the frame with a brand new one and put everything else on the new frame along with a new box. The truck is literally brand new again, there was literally no repaired parts on the truck. The fact that the truck did such a good job protecting my wife really impressed me. It might just take more than a 16 year old boy to kill a Raptor!

Lets hope so! Besides him destroying it I want him to be safe in it. There are deaths on the roads here everyday. Some of them are people who have heart attacks while driving and then kill someone else! Its an old persons town and happens a lot!

But it sounds like I got him a good bubble to protect him. This truck is big. I am excited. I got that putco blade installed. I have to work on the drop down running boards next but looks like a monumental task.

I also ordered an underseat storage box by tuffy. I was a bit disappointed in the lack of storage under the seat like the dodge I had. The dodge system was clever and had a flat cover which I really liked. I couldn't get all my **** in the included storage on the ford from the dodge.

Besides everything working in the garage - air conditioned is great. I am still sweating because its work and hot! But is much better than laying on the ground outside. I really love this building.

In terms of repairs I have someone coming Tuesday to look at the repairs needed and I bought some magnetic wiring mounts so we can start moving wiring out of the purlins before that so things are a bit easier.

Heff: yep buying a new truck or car more than a few years before your kids get their licenses is a good way to get them into a car you know something about and also that they grew up in.

looks great.

hope all the house and garage repairs are in the works and will get done as soon as you'd like.

is there any hurricane Irma damage still effident around your area?

have a great day!!

This big problem I see is the pines in my area are dying. I had 6 trees that died removed and another tree that survived but I recognized could reach our house so it had to go. I will send some pics. There is a beautiful new home in my neighborhood and it has almost all of its pines dead. What happens is there is a boring beetle that blows in with the storm. They will kill one tree and leave the one next to it just fine.

I have the garage door guys coming today to look at why my 14x14 won't go down without stopping and turning around. I am worried its the wall could be racked from the tree falling on it. :(

I had the guys here yesterday who are in constructions. I didn't get the best feeling. I told him the day you take the roof and purlins off I want them put back on. I said we will have a drought but the day they peel it back that night we will have a BAD storm since my building will be wide open! The one guy was like yeah we can probably do that - the guy who would do the work was like nah I don't think so :(

I guess he was honest. I said it can be a long long day but I would prefer it that way!

As promised this is the side and back yard of a brand new home in my neighborhood. You can see the dead and living trees all around each other. f57f3148297833ef68b19963a7a3184a.jpg

Mounted my tv. It’s too low. Also here’s another pic of that lot. I noticed a lot of trees since you asked about damage that are still down! I’ll try to catch pics as I drive. 196d10adbfd94460868071c438c42dce.jpg

I installed my tuffy storage box today under the seat. The stock truck doesn’t have enough under seat storage.

That's a nice looking layout. How come so many roll ups along the side, the three doors? Now this is just me speaking, but I would not want to lose the wall space.

I really like the overhang on the front and I would of also used the columns , you really need them for the wind lift here.

So I am updating images and I was starting at the beginning of my thread. CBAcres I have to tell you this piece of information was one of the best if not THE best suggestion I received while building the building! I am SO happy I didn't put three door on that wall and I was able to put the mezzanine where it belonged in the end of the third bay! Thanks again! Hope you are well and the hurricane didn't get you too bad!

Here is a pic I found of the tree that fell on the building from afar. You can see how massive it is considering it is taller than the pump truck boom!

That's why we're all here, to bounce these ideas off each other.you got a real nice building and set up there, been following along.

The storm mainley took out some pines and spilt couple of the oaks, but no damage to speak of. The shop did get 5" of water n it, which is a first for this property. No real damage there as most everything is up on casters.

We also have lost a lot of pines over the years due to the beetles.
Hope to make it by someday to check it out.

Yeah we had 6 trees die from the beetles. Hopefully that will be the end. I have one tree thats close to my garage that I will probably have removed so nothing can really fall on the building again. After all this trouble I don't think I could go through another fix....

DAMN!!! Everything has turned out so nice I am sorry you had the damage to your beautiful new shop.

Take the damage out of the picture and the landscaping, building and drive look amazing.

Great build, I hope you get the damage repaired quickly.

Heff: i wish i was closer cause i've got a few extra carts that are rated for a ton. looks like a homemade one is on your TO DO LIST NOW.

the truck looks great and good plan to use it for several years and pass it on to your son. with all that driveway do you have a little go cart or golf cart for your son to start learning on?

best of luck with all the repairs and the shop is looking great!!

I bought my son a crazy cart XL from razor. This thing just spins constantly so I hope he gets it out of his system! He is wearing out the wheels and just before he broke his arm he blew out the front tire. I just got it changed and have to remount it. The pavers are really hard on the back wheels which just pull behind and are very soft...

I rebuilt the cart it is from Fastcap and made of pipe. It was my mistake overloading it. Its not really a cart for working or moving heavy stuff...

Other things:

I got the shop cleaned up more but I feel like I am moving piles from one place to another. I really want to clean off the benches. I don't have any shortage of space for things and I ordered bunch more boxes from Home Depot so everything will be consistent and my OCD will not go bezerk!

The truck got opticoat+ on it yesterday. I would say it turned out ok - just not worth the $1500 it cost. I would probably have been just as happy with a good cleaning and wax. The paint correction wasn't good. There are a lot of paint issues with this truck from the factory - bubbles and what not. Such a shame but its only a $70k truck what can you expect?!?!?!

Hey guys so sorry for the delay! Lots happening. Sunday I had my electricians out to start clearing out all the electrical in the purlins. Also we are eliminating the pendant speakers. They are 70v and I don’t want to mess with a 70v amp. Just not worth it. Also we at eelminating the high bay led lights. I use UPB to control all my lights and these things are just so noisy I can’t keep using them.

Some pics of the underside of the roof.

Heff: your mezzanine with the wood railings look great. WELL DONE!!

speaking of the lights which i'm hoping you like do you own that lift or did you just lease it until you are done with your build. looks like a very handy thing to have in a big shop. do you own or are you planning to own a fork lift?

keep up the great work and it just keeps looking better every time you post.

cheers

speaking of the lights which i'm hoping you like do you own that lift or did you just lease it until you are done with your build. looks like a very handy thing to have in a big shop. do you own or are you planning to own a fork lift?

keep up the great work and it just keeps looking better every time you post.

cheers

Thanks! I bought the lift. A buddy lent me his for the construction phases but he needed it back. While we had it we loaded up the mezzanine with everything in it not was the handiest thing in the world so I went and bought one. I looked at a bunch of used ones. They are about 50% of new but they were a dozen years old and had no warranty. I love this thing and as we speak my electrician is using it to put up the new lights. I block him out so he can retain his innocence. :)

Here’s the new lighting plan7e5ec9881dbe20ade7f2a8bfad9a12c3.jpg

This is old. It’s hard to see it all because I took a lousy picture but the high bays are gone
Thank goodness they were noisy on the electrical line. They did a much better job than what I thought but I think the ceiling looks cleaner without them.

FYI I bought the lift from guys I found on eBay. They are called ULE sales and they were great took care of everything. I got it in a couple days. If you go back in the postings I talk about how we laid out steps and they were going to take up way too much space. This thing is so darn useful!!!

I never took a picture of the space between the two doors. We tried to use it effectively got the wall safe for car keys and keys for toolboxes and all. Sorry folks no money in there. A retractable electrical cord. A paper towel holder that’s magnetic and all my brooms with a very long garden tool holder5f246660172663592327d3ce52fad2df.jpg

Here’s a picture or two of my tv setup up above. This was the first tv. Eventually I will install four TVs in the whole place. Can’t tell you why but I like tv. The one here in the picture was going to be a security monitor and still might be. I deliver the Comcast box over cat 6 with the device pictured below. It also feeds the tv over the bench.
