Finally, a day with multiple sales, although after 6 or 7 stops, only 1 or 2 bore fruit really. First pic shows items from flea market, 2 unions, piece of brake tubing, and clear handled Craftsman screw driver - .25 ea. Label maker was $5. Yellow handle screwdriver with pocket clip was only thing I found at one yard sale, woman gave it to me.

Next pic shows stuff from the best stop, a small estate sale I almost skipped.
2 General tap wrenches
2 Snap On wrenches, 5/16 and 7/8
Craftsman threading "fish"
Starrett scribe
lathe carbide insert tool and non matching carbide inserts
lathe cutoff blade
3 Weldon countersinks
Diamond 4" adjustable wrench
Jacobs #3 key
indicator tip set
None of this stuff had prices marked, guy came over with a bag and said load it in. Took the bag up and said "How much?" Woman looks in the bag
"how's $5. sound?" They look at my sweatshirt with my buddies body shop printed on it, get talking, woman says her husband used to work in a body shop next town over, turns out I knew the owner of that shop. At this point the guy who brought me over the bag announces to other people running the sale he is going to give me the rest of the tools. We walk back over to the Kennedy box and the guy says take whatever you want.

So that is what the 3rd pic is
Eklind fold up hex keys and a metric set
bunch more Jacobs keys
Armstrong 7/8 and Bonney 1/2" wrenches
Starrett protractor with a little rust, soaking in Evaporust now
3/4" lathe arbor
6" Diamond adjustable, marked with owners name unfortunately
Xacto knife w/ spare blades
4-48 Greenfield die
Snap on 3/8 socket with 3/8 hex stock welded in, crooked, sadly

Ended up giving them another $5 that they didn't want to take, but I just left it on their table, still way too little.

I grabbed it without looking, except to see the Proto ratchet. I was hoping I'd see Lisle sockets when I got home, but it was not to be. :(

Went back today to do a search and destroy, but no luck.
I did grab a few more things, but I'll have to post them tomorrow.
I have tickets to the soccer game at Gillette tonight and I'm halfway out the door.

It has me stumped because I don’t recall ever seeing a socket set by them. Other than bit and specialty sockets. Looks wrong and too small for a clutch alignment set. It looks like a socket box. :dunno:

Looks like you guys are having some good days!

Is the "toothbrush holder" a shell casing?

My day stare with drizzle.. just enough to wet things and likely close the yard sales. as it turned out, I only saw one that didn't open! I was surprised! that was the good news. The bad was not many had much good stuff...

First stop; their "tools" consisted of a beat chop saw. I did get this for a buck for SWMBO's Snowman collection:

attachment.php

Other stops including the "block sales" I mentioned yesterday were a bust, I had to got way off to left field for a sale that had "Camping Equipment" Wow, dirty worn out sleeping bags, a cheap *** propane stove, beat and filthy back packs... trash... they DID have this Technics, Turntable. Good Flipping material. $22

attachment.php

Off to the Estate sale I went to Yesterday, They have stuff I'm interested in, but not at the prices, listed. Maybe tomorrow for 1/2 off day?

Some Books, a couple of these replace favorites that have become loose-leaf... Softcover were 4 for a buck Hardbound, CD's record's and DVD's were a buck I got some of each.

attachment.php

I'd been wanting to get some Chieftains music for a while but hard to find, so now I have 4 LPs in vinyl, and 6 CD's The LP's are pristine!:

attachment.php

I did find one tool cheap while shopping for Media: The aluminum pieces are stands for Pipe clamps! Box of 4, look never to have been used.

I picked up the other 4 Audubon books (for a buck? worth it); and the the westerns.

All in all I got through this stop for $20

More to come!

Last stop had some good stuff. Most of what I went to look for was gone, but I found some hidden stuff:

Two Jewelers saws, Channellock Needle nose, and a cool old oil can (technically a thinner dispenser), with a shut off nozzle.

attachment.php

Then I saw this small carry box.

attachment.php

I'm trying to stop getting carry boxes, but when I opened this one, I knew that restriction was out the door instantly, as I saw the yellow decal!

attachment.php

The cracks in the decal is because the paint is checking:

attachment.php

The tray has the bins with the curved pockets so you can dig small parts out of them easier. I don't see these often!

Outlaw. Cat Ballou--that is the first movie that my father-in-law was in. He is the engineer on the locomotive. My wife still gets royalties from that movie.
He and his train made Breakheart Pass too. That was made in your country.

We were busy yesterday but went to the second day of an estate sale this morning in Benicia, CA. It was pretty picked over but I found a few tools worth keeping, mostly Craftsman -v- stuff. My wife picked up some pliers and asked about the logo. They turned out to be really rare Vlchek gull wing pliers with the Flying V logo. I’ve probably seen 50 sets of gull wing pliers and still own 20 or so but that was the first pair with that logo I’ve ever seen in the wild. The drill index is Craftsman mostly filled with Craftsman bits. We stopped by a garage sale on the way home and I overpaid for some bits to sharpen to replenish the bit box.

Is the "toothbrush holder" a shell casing?

So are you!!

I asked over at free parking what that shell is from. There's nothing definitive but some guys think it's an engine starting cartridge from a B-57 Canberra jet.

I have 15-20 empty boxes in my garage right now, but I don't think I would have been able to resist that gem. Great find!!!

Had a little time to go to a few estates and found this Equipto cabinet and a Craftsman C clamp (not pictured). Came full of homeowner parts like nails, screws, hinges AND a lifetime supply of Popsickle sticks. Could not pass it up for 10 bucks. Now I have find a place for it.

That Equipto is stellar. I guess I'll be looking out for one of those.

The M.R.&M Co punch is for tubular rivets. It cuts the flower petal and pushes them down. Look at the back of the rivets on all most all leather toolbgs or pouches and you will see the pattern it creates. That one looks a little worn down.

Very jelly on the bench mill!

There was nothing going on in town, and while there was a good looking one in the "city" he listing was giving me the feeling that it would be rip off city. So I went to a couple sales in the bigger town to the south. First sale I picked up some oil and cutting fluid, 6" Rigid and a Red Devil pry bar for $3, second sale the Koken impact driver (was missing one bit, but had that in the stash) cool welding goggles that fit over my glasses and the dark lenses flip up and a Proto LA spark plug gauge and a couple Proto broken bolt extractors for $14. The nex couple didn't have any thing, but a junk shop had the wooden file card cabinet and the Colt catalog (1933) for $20. Finally, stopped by the bicycle kitchen and picked up the unopened Suntour shifters and Simplex sx630 RD for $14. Not to bad overall and got me out of the house for a bit.

Here are some photos of the two vintage books I picked up today, both published in my collecting wheelhouse, 1943 to be exact.

The Traveling Engineer's Exam Book, first printed in 1925, will be a nice accent piece when displayed with my railroader toolbox and tools. As most of you know, I am an engineer, and I have traveled a lot, but I have to admit this (choo! choo!) is not the subject matter I envisioned before I cracked it open! :)

The diagrams alone (compressors, coal pushers, boilers, injectors, throttles, gears, stokers, etc) are amazing.

It has me stumped because I don’t recall ever seeing a socket set by them. Other than bit and specialty sockets. Looks wrong and too small for a clutch alignment set. It looks like a socket box. :dunno:

I wonder if Jakes Lisle box was for a clutch alignment tool?

It definitely looks like a socket set box, but I'm not sure how clutch tools were packaged, so I'm just as stumped as you guys.

Thanks Spike. I haven't been able to find any info on M.R.&M online. The marking is really faint, but it looks like they were in Milford Conn.

OBTW : Not that anyone cares but had a good time and good beer at the game, and all the home teams won tonight. (except the Red Sox, but it's still early in the season) So, happy household all around.

This one was off Offer-up! I’ve been looking for a Snap-on tool box for awhile. I don’t have much of a budget and I was hoping I could find someone who would barter. I found this KRL-761. I offered him $500 + a vice I recently refurbished. I paid $40 for the Yost vise (I had a neigherbor in high school with the last name Yost and he was an *** so I never liked the vise). He even loaded and delivered!!!

Well bought/traded, Unruh!

Thank you. Like I said, I had been looking for a long time, thing finally fell into place.

 One of my favorite lines of the year so far! (And before Outlaw suggests it, I may just have to add another prize! :))

:bounce:

With the weather getting warmer and more importantly drier here in the Pacific Northwest, I’m hoping to get shots at other prizes.

I don’t post on here much because my deals are usually average at best, but I do read most every post. Some of you guys have the best luck and some have unrivaled persistence when it comes to finding deals. I also gotta say; Lugnutz, you are doing a top notch job on this thread, you put on a hell of a show.

Unruh, one of the big rules of the GS thread is that no deal is too small to share. In fact, sharing ho-hum deals helps to manage our expectations on finding great deals are not as routine as the posts on this thread might lead you to believe.

Unless you're Outlaw, Waggoner72 or bluebolt, you're just not going to find amazing deals routinely....:bounce:...and that's okay--share anyway!

My trip to the local flea market today yielded some tiny Herbrand wrenches and a Giant pebble Plomb; A 3096 doe.
Also a long c Craftsman wrench and a few SK sockets. 12 bucks all told.

IMHO not everything here has to be a "you ****" deal.

Half the fun of this thread is seeing all the weird old stuff that surfaces and trying to figure out what it is, where it came from or what is does.

Even though some of this unique stuff has negligible market value, it sure has entertainment value.

Ran into another gull-wing slipjoint pliers today. Says “Harrold USA”. Forged pattern grips.

Edit: Thanks to RagTopTA for taking notice of this post, which inspired me to dig a little deeper. In hindsight, I realize my original post was too understated. I didn’t employ enough fanfare to generate the reaction from Lugz I was hoping for. So...

Hwat! (I may start all my posts that way from now on;))
Oh, they ARE Vlchek. Vlchek is the only mfgr that used that so-called (by collectors) 'gull wing' style. They advertised it as a superior grip. They have many different markings. It may have no logo. They're in the shadow of your hip roof box.
Gull wings can be found with all kinds of finishes, LS, including natural steel, black oxide, black japanned, cadmium, and plated. And yes, as far as I know, those style handles have never been seen in any other mfgr's catalog or with any other logo behind the pivot except a Vlchek V shield, a Vlchek Flying V, or a Vlchek contract marking (e.g., "PR 206", "H1106"), made for Chevy and others. Many are found with no marking whatsoever behind the pivot, ostensibly contract production for auto stores, but they are all identical and all - logo or not - have the same forged markings on one handle shoulder ("FORGED IN U.S.A.").

Here’s a thread on Harrold:
https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=330843&highlight=Harrold giving a better idea of their range of tool production.

And Twertsy has the scoop on Harrold, whereas AA site has naught (or “nowt” as our Northern Brit brethren say): http://toolarchives.com/node/3953

Mind, the profile of their slipjoints is not identical to the Vlchek, but I think it qualifies as “gull wing”. In fact, because it is not identical, it demonstrates that Harrold is not just rebranded Vlchek.

Edit 5/20/18 found a 7” Utica gull-wing slip-joint today (513-7). Admittedly, they have side-cutters, so not a pure-bred slip-joints.

Unruh, one of the big rules of the GS thread is that no deal is too small to share. In fact, sharing ho-hum deals helps to manage our expectations...
Well said. On top of that, not everyone who participates is primarily motivated by the deal to begin with. Yours truly, for example. I never say what I paid, I never ask what someone else paid, and personally, I consider it far less important and interesting than the item. I'm a collector, not a bargain-hunter. Of course I like to buy for as low as I can, which is why I limit my picking to flea markets. As the host, I have been paying much more attention to this aspect of the thread than ever before, but only because I have to award a Best Deal prize at the end of the year!

Rained here early, but I managed to sneak in a quick trip to the flea market in the afternoon after it cleared up.

MFD. era Pebble Plomb, miscellaneous sockets, including another Thorsen, a Walden-Worcester, a WRIGHT Aeronautical (not sure who made it), a "-D-I-" 25/32" spark plug socket (that's a first), and, staying in the Duro-Chrome family, a pair of Duro-made WARD's CHROMIUM VANADIUM sockets (1-1/8" and 11/16").

Someone school me on the green-handled Diamalloy adjustables craze. I've always heard they're a stupid money thing on fleaBay, but I know nothing about it. Do the markings matter to these buyers? These both have imperial and metric sizes forged-in.

My small deal of the day: Utica no5000 slipjoints, Blue Point Supreme S-1214 from 1937, Bridgeport offset slot screwdriver, Varcraft and Allentown Paints bottle/can openers, Bridgeport no243 3” slot screwdriver...all for $1.75 at Jakes flea market.
It was overcast in the 40°s with a stiff wind; bit of a shock after topping 80° last week. Spent an additional dollar on a hatchet handle that will end up as a gift for a person of that name. I passed up a Bridgeport X dbe, a Craftsman underline aluminum folding rule, and a Craftsman heritage 14” pipe wrench, so I could spend the cash on half an hour of epic greetings and twenty minutes of CGI battle. Thanks, Marvel.

Looking good there guys!

Lugz I believe it was a red handle the guys were making a big todo over. The green are definitely well liked though.

The flea market was packed with tools and I had a pretty good day. Pics to come.

Picked up this neat WW II Air Force transport box. I planned on using it to hold the vintage tools I restore. Authentic WW2 US Airforce Transport Box, Beals & Selkirk Trunk Co., Foot Locker. But it maybe two valuable to hold tools.

Nice snag, prichman. The box may be WWII (does the OEM marking also have a date stamp?), but just as an FYI, the white and black stenciling is post-war. USAFE was created in August 1945, and Travis AFB was established (re-named that) in 1951.
