Picked up this can rack from a local online auction.

I'm going to use it for drawer rack when painting the rest of the Vidmar cabs.

Here’s another addition to the shop.81650eb6df6988ff83c1284f35e77edb.jpg
A vintage aluminum frame office chair. This is the same style of one I have except this one has the arm rest. Might make into a stool if base seems it’ll be stable enough. I have another chair coming that a member picked up for me.

Everything in my shop is turning out to be old, including me!!!!

Hey CB. All kinds of great finds and I see many uses for all of them. That scissors lift will be worth its weight in gold when certain jobs come along. And that blue looks great on cabinet!!!

That chair is really cool and I was looking for one like that to go with my old Steelcase tanker desk in my home office. Propeller base chairs, I believe they are called. I like that one because of the black pads on the arms and the back, and with new black leather on the seat pad - awesome! Anyway, before you start hacking on it, let me know if you would be interested in parting with it, I'm sure we could make a deal.

Here’s another addition to the shop.81650eb6df6988ff83c1284f35e77edb.jpg

Hey Mark, thanks for stopping by. I wish I had the equivalent go gold in what that lift weighs:lol_hitti

I'm real happy with the blue, I'll be really happier when I get the others done. It's getting there.

The way I planned to make chairs into the stools wouldn't involve any kind of cutting, basically going to fab a section of 3-4" pipe that I can bolt to the base and duplicate the top same as the base opening and set the swievel assembly in. I don't quite have the heart to cut apart when in a complete condition.

If anything changes on using, I'll let you know. If I come across any I'll give you a heads up.

That's a good old desk, you could set the front of a car on it.

Refurbishing cabinets is a lot of work... it took me a loooooooog time. But it was worth it!

Yeah, they don't make desks like that anymore. Its probably for the best though... saving people's poor backs that have to move them :)

If a similar chair pops up, arms or not, give me a shout. thanks.

Mark that chair would be perfect with that desk.

Thought so too. Here is the look I am going for...

Working on the lift I bought, tried a start cap, nothing. Pulled motor and pump, motor was seized as it was submerged in water at some point.
Pulled apart, wire brushed the rotor and used some emery cloth on the fields. Bearings seem ok for now, quick squirt with some contact cleaner and blow dried.

Reassembled and fired right up, reconnected all the hydraulic lines and the lift took right off.

So for $190, $17 for the cap, about a 12 pack of beer, I have a functioning lift.

Nice save on the lift.

You'll love having a lift to work off of. I use my motorcycle lift tables quite a bit for small engine work, sometimes even another bench, and it sure saves on the back.

Nice! Congrats on that score. That’s great to have.

Could have used one the other day. On the ground with the mower trying to get at things, plus a dog in my face.

Thanks. Exactly the reason got one, it's just a ***** working on the ground on one.

Nice save on the lift.

What you said is exactly what I intend to use for.

When I converted this barn into my shop, I built in a 4'x8' x 8" deep pit when I poured the slab, with conduits run over to the wall for hydraulics, air and electric. That was back in 2005. I was going to build my own, just never got around to it.
When I came across this one, it was worth the $190 just for the scissor framework. So I came out great on this buy.

Now I need to decide weather to build a 4x8 top for this lift or just install with the size it is and build arms for the bigger things like ATV and mower. I can just close in the excess of the pit size.
Once in the pit, it'll have a 36-1/2" working height, I wish it was higher, but it's way better than nothing.:lol_hitti

Picked up the last two Vidmars.
Shorty was good enough to picked them up when he bought his.
These are it, I’m done. Really.

Here’s the new addition to the acres.
Two Vidmar 60”x60” shelf units. These are the same shell as the one with drawers.
7d24dba9c7ad1766a72209cafe209aa1.jpg
These things **** up some space in my truck.

I needed to use my lift to lift my other lift.
de8e4189d70142a87cbb71b45e42c3a8.jpg
The new table lift proved its usefulness today. The cabs are actually longer that the platform, but the caster spacing just fit on the top.

So I got them all off and into the temporary storage area until I can clean up and paint.

I plan on a few mods to these two shelf units. I have a Vidmar cab that I bought for parts that I’ll be using the drawers and slides out of. Below is a drawing on my plans.
ee3f741e999986fb4e5cf9c45c773f0f.jpg
The red is the fixed shelves. The green are the 28” wide drawers and the rails that I’m going to cut out of the parts cab. They’ll be gaps in the drawer fronts, but the intent is slide out shelves, not drawers.
The below is the same idea, but the blue is a full wide slide out shelf.

Stay tuned.

I picked up another good old office chair from Shorty. I’ll use this as a stool when working on mowers, atv, etc on the platform lift.

Thanks for posting up. I may consider casters, I just need to make sure stability is not a issue with the bigger loads, like a ATV. I'll have to say, it's nice working out under my porch roof.

Here’s what has been going on around my shop, literally. It was suggested by my sweet wife “ why don’t you just get a shed to help out with space in the shop “? . OK if you insist babe. We’ll after pricing these sheds, I’m going with a 18’x25’ all metal building on a concrete slab, for less money per sf than the prefab wood units.

So this launches another good size project for us. First I need to take care of fences in the area, like run a new one from behind the shop to the back line. This isolates the horse area from the shop area and allows me to drive around to the back of shop without having to mess with a gate.

The big c clamps come in handy.

Then I purged my boneyard and moved what I’m keeping around back.

With the fencing done, here’s the start of the pad for the metal building.
I’m filling to get this slab up a little higher as the storm last year flooded my shop.
IMG_2585.jpg
In place.
IMG_2637.jpg

I’ve applied for the permit and hope to have in a few weeks.

I’ll be adding to my lifting capabilities in the front of the shop. When I built the steel frame for the porch, I built it heavy enough to use for lifting. At first I had a ratcheting chain fall, man that was great. Then I found a electric hoist, I’m like how did I live without this? But this was a stationary point, had to move truck/trailer to get stuff off. ( never happy, right?)
I’ll be building a I beam trolly that will allow about 10’ of travel, not a lot, but best I can do with existing building.
IMG_2458.jpg
I found some 6”x4” ibeam at the scrap yard, galvanized too.
IMG_2459.jpg
I also bought some 4”x4” square tube to support the other end of the trolly beam.

While I was in the dirt mode, I relocated a couple water lines that where under the porch slab and redirected two electrical conduits from the barn to the new building.

Back when I converted the horse barn I ran plenty of conduits to the new barn, 4-1” and only using two of them. So tapped the two unused conduits and running those to new building.
IMG_2601.jpg

I had to think of a way to identify the spare conduits in the trench. I did this by running air through rack conduit and listening with my mechanic stethoscope. It worked great. Heated conduit to make some custom bends and was off!
IMG_2597.jpg

Water line adjustments.
IMG_2614.jpg
IMG_2611.jpg

I took the time to measure where everything was for future if needed.

Craig, great progress! You mentioned the beam in my thread and you are right, once you have it you wonder how you ever got along without one. I have used the one in my metal shop to load and unload equipment as I started to move stuff into the shop.

It all started when cleaning out my parents house, my dad had a trolley set up in the detached garage. It was a formed box style system that I was going to use in my place. I elected to go with just the I beam when a member here offered to trade a trolley carrier with me, I'll still will be using dads electric hoist. It will save a little height, which I need every bit I can get.

Strouty, I was making space for the ones I have, but as fate would have it.........
IMG_5223.jpg
IMG_2814.jpg

I’m getting at least one four drawer cab or a four and a five drawer, not sure.
Son went and picked up some for himself and I, waiting to hear for sure which ones.

I bought on the premise that I was just going to use for the drawers to swap around in what I already have, but how does one just let a cab sit around and not be used? For $65 each, kinda hard to pass up.

It is a sickness, I have it too.

My Snap On driver is already talking about another dozen Listas for me to buy, same type as before. He thinks it will be “in the future”, so not sure when or even if, but he is looking out for me.

Running some drain pipes for the gutter down spouts and other future drains. I found some used 6” pvc to make a main run from shop to a ditch at back of property. I’ll tie two 4” lines from each down spout into the 6”, and will have a 4” stub for the down spout on the new building.
Trencher I rented.
IMG_2861.jpg
6” run, set at 1/8” per ft slope. I was aiming to keep the outlet as high as possible at the ditch.
IMG_2874.jpg
IMG_2881.jpg
IMG_2876.jpg
The ground is pretty uneven in this area and knocks the trencher off a straighter line pretty quick.
4” line to south side of shop.
IMG_2884.jpg
IMG_2888.jpg

Now I need to adapt 4” square down spout to the 4” pvc 90. They sell adapters, but $27 each?. Kinda pricey. So I may just heat the pvc and make it conform.

And I'll be bringing home two of the four drawer vidmars this weekend. That's it, no more!

I am quoting this as I don't believe you. :)

My Snap On driver told me about the next Lista score, unfortunately I am going to have to pay more for these, but they are much nicer and will be more useful overall. Apparently there are cabinets, benches, and overhead cabinets. I have not seen them yet, but he says they are in great shape. Same color blue as the other ones and looks like there will be another dozen.

Thanks Strouty.

I'm excited at clearing shop of storage, making a pretty good size investment on a serious drainage plan to maybe calm the waters down around the shop. After the shoveling and bending over most of the weekend, My legs cramped so bad sitting on the couch I about screamed and had to get my wife to help me stand with one leg straight out:lol_hitti God I hate the muscle cramps. I made it a point to warm up some the next day and it seemed to help.

The shop ( ex horse barn) was not built on much fill by the po's. It's been a little bit of a battle with rain water over the years, nothing serious, just really annoying, except for Irma and the 5" that ***** left in my shop.

So, diverting the roof water should be a large part of the game, some more regrading once concrete is done on new building, created a swale for front of shop to drain to and if I have to, a sump pump to cover the drain under roof in the front, this would be piped to to 6".
If the shop floor was just 4" higher, or even 2", it'd remove most of the problems.
Yep, my life story, if I just had 2" more inches :lol_hitti

My shop is a floating slab and it was originally flush with the ground, I had to rework things and fix my drainage issues, but only during the spring thaw was it really an issue. Ice damns would form in front of the doors, then the ground would heave from the frost, as it melted all the water from the roof and ice damns would flow into the shop. I remember one time there was a good 3” inside, I can’t imagine 5”, I probably would have cried. What you are doing will definitely help and in the long run it will absolutely be worth the effort.
