If those quick connects are the ones I think, they seem to fit together well, but have an engineered problem.
If you use them, and rotation happens, the hard balls mash the brass at the edge of the trough near the tip, and raise the sides....Which have nowhere to go, so the whole thing locks up solid. A guy could save himself some frustration by taking it down a little before that happens.
Interesting. I've heard rotation happens. Or something like that. They might be best melted down. I really have no use for them that I know of.
"Got it all done with no trips to town. I like doing an entire project with stuff on hand."
That's always awesome when you have all you need for the job at hand right in the shop. My problem is I know I have it, but I usually can't find it until I get back from the trip to town.
Boy have I been there. Go to town, buy three so you can have two spares and put them in a drawer where you find two more.
Of course a lot of the scheme is to figure out how to use what you've got.
Using miscellaneous auction stuff is one of my favorite things to do. Nice job!
Thank you!
Gosh, June is gone and I’ve missed almost 2 weeks of thread here. Good to see Hershey bouncing back and taking care of momma.
That is some auction box!

Always nice when you can do a job like that without a run to the local supplier or wait a few days to be delivered. That is a really impressive stack of raw casting stock in the background too. Though at the rate you are turning out trivets, hammers and brackets you must have used up quite a bit already.
Hershey did really well!
Living in the country means a run to the local supplier takes just about all day. It shouldn't, but there goes the day.
Actually I'm using very little stock. I create more ingots with every casting pour and most of each pour is sprue and runners so I have hidden stock building in the sprue box.
Unfortunately I seem to have an aversion to using up stock. It's kind of a sustainable thing.
Speaking of trivets and hammers.
Ann wants to know how you know her middle name.
Thanks Andy

I don't know her middle name? Do I? I have her Social Security number...
It's only taken me a few weeks of reading everyday, but finally I got caught up.

Would love to get on a waiting list for some castings.

I have a few old Dell laptops that still work that have a built in 25-pin parallel port that you may be interested in for trade. They were formatted and reinstalled the last time I checked. I was pretty close to recycling them but they are still safe in my basement. I believe they are running XP, and might even have a slightly newer version of Office already for you. Will let you know.
Glad to see that some of your harvested and seasoned yard metal could get recycled. Wondering if the fireworks could also be from some magnesium that snuck its way into the party.
How do you deliver the oil to be burned? Does it spray into a mist?
Hope you can continue to find sources of aluminum since it's hard for one person to consume that much Coke.
I'm impressed, you slogged all the way through this drivel.
I'm depressed, you slogged all the way through this drivel.

You made it all the way through? That earns you the casting of your choice.
I don't really know but I think magnesium would have made a better show, and not made white smoke. I could be wrong, you know. There is a first time for everything.
The oil tank is pressurized to 5 psi and the oil is bled through a ball valve (now gate valve) into a 1/4" steel tube which goes to the end of the burner tube. It dribbles but does spray pretty good because of the air blast coming around it. Air is set to burn neutral (a little to the more air side of a little smoke). I think it is neutral because I'm getting a clean white furnace. I have a spray nozzle but opted to burn unfiltered oil. That's why I'm staying away from a needle valve; I can open a ball or gate to pass plugs.
There is no shortage of cans but I am continuing to pick up some better aluminum now and then. JB has been my biggest benefactor. I greatly appreciate his generosity.
I modified my oil burner to use a gate valve instead of the ball valve. The ball valve was just too sensitive. And I could only find a 1/2" gate valve. So I've got some big pipes.
When the mail came there were two Vieux Cubes and two gloves!!
Thanks Vladimir!

I understand how the cubes are made and I'll up you one when I get the chance. But my wife was very impressed and took them to her sister's house to show off.
Thanks!
An incredible gift, thank you!!
Now I need some help, guys. I need phone service in my shop. I have practically none. My wife can't get hold of me when she needs something (which is getting to be more frequently). I really do not want to run a wire since it is across the driveway and I have not had good luck keeping a wire in service. I used to have a phone extension out there.
I think my options are
1 Install a WiFi repeater with an external antenna so my phone can operate off the house WiFi. Can you do this 100 feet away or do I need a transmitter too?
2 Install an AT&T frequency antenna with inside amplifier. How do you do that?
I need something my wife can use her phone to call my phone. Two way radios and intercoms have to be with you, and she does keep her phone with her. Also, I keep my phone in my pocket and can feel it vibrate. I don't think I could hear anything else.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
