Nice to have a day off mid-week!

Had some fun introducing Ranger to the lake.:)

And then some drudgery bondo-ing the hood. :(

A nice 80 degree afternoon to finish the bondo/sanding and primer on the hood.

With the new pup underfoot, I got it all block sanded. Just a little spot glazing putty left to do.

I let it set for a bit, then wet sanded it.

I'm pretty happy with how it's turning out. Feeling like I'm ready to turn it over to a real painter without being embarrassed. :bounce:

Hood turned out great. Nice job.

What brand of products have you been using? I generally use all PPG but the prices are unreal lately and I am always interested to hear what other people are using.

Thanks.

Looking good ! Now for the rest of the cab ?

I'll have it painted by someone who knows what they are doing. When I can afford it :(

Top job Riven:thumbup:

It's a work in progress, but I'm happy with how it's turning out!

That hood looks like it was professionally done! Great job!!!

Thanks, but I'd never make a living at it with how much extra work I have to put in on it.

We need more info on the paint and process, it looks great!

Easy steps.

Shake can, spray, let dry, wet sand, repeat til it shines!

Good 'ol Krylon. I use the 3M micro sanding sponges. Not those drywall sanders from HD.

Not knowing when I'll get to have the whole truck sprayed, I figure this will last a fair bit, then get re-sanded prior to paint. A temporary fix.

I know that is a picture on the internet, but damn, to have that start out from a spray can is just amazing. I will be curious how well it holds up. Maybe you should experiment with some clear coat?

Well from what I can see I would be very pleased with the way it finished up. Black is not a forgiving color to paint.

So I'm finding out......

Thought I had it all looking good, then the sun hit it at a different angle.

Back to filling/blocking/priming and re-painting.

Good thing I don't have a budget, schedule or picky client to worry about :wtf:

It's Krylon. I don't have any unrealistic expectations about it looking good forever.

From my Table thread, you'll probably remember that I don't much care for shiny things.

while I can't bring myself to add some "Patina" to the hood, I really won't mind if it starts to fade out or show some wear. That way it'll match the truck that much better :thumb:

I'm enjoying the challenge of making an old hood look good again, and might even gain a skill or two in the process.

Wet sanding is interesting. You get a feel for when the pad is cutting, and when you've smoothed out the surface. You can tell how the water sheets off differently, and the sound of the pad changes.

I am sure when you are done it will look great. I don’t think I have seen anything that you have done that was half assed.

Riven that's a shame, the pics looked real good.

No big deal. Just added another step in the process.

Like HOTFR8 said, black is not very forgiving.

I didn't pick up on a few pin holes and fine sanding scratches at primer.

Live and learn.

It'll look good again.

Thanks,

I've got a lot to learn, attempting to keep up with you guys.

OK, I have to say here I never tackle a job like you have. I let the professionals look after the big stuff. Although I do have a go at little jobs. Yes I did say black is not easy.

The axles for my Ford project arrived today. I think they will be strong enough.

These axles will look right at home under my truck. I still have not decided what tires I am going to use, it will depend on what they look like in the front fender well. I can use 46”, 48”, or 54”, can’t wait to dig out the truck and get some pictures.

Neither can we....

My Father keeps putting more stuff in front of the truck, so it is actually getting harder to get to. I don't expect to have it out until October or later. I can dream for now.

Can we get you to start your own topic on this. :)

Maybe the word I was looking for was not blame, but encourage is not right either. Lets settle on enable.

Thanks sir
Is that truck already air brake? If so I approve of axle choice, otherwise uninogs would have been better

It is already air brake, that was why I like these so much.

I must say that I am really enjoying this thread. I've been following for a couple of months now but, I missed the dog naming period. My suggestion would have been: Dooley. Thanks for the entertainment!

With some help from friends, I got the hood re-installed. Added a few LED button lights on the underside. They are 12V, run off the 2nd battery and are controlled with a water proof switch next to the battery.

It was too hot to do any more than that. So I sat and drank a beer with a fan blowing on me.

Had a hard time keeping the little insulated fur ball cool today as well.

Looks like I found a cure for the heat of summer.

Awhile back, I mentioned that I had a couple things that would slow down progress on the truck.

The 1st was the mutt. He's done a great job slowing me down, but been really worth the hassle!

The 2nd got loaded on a truck today, and is headed my way.

I love my old truck, but it's gonna take a back seat for a bit. :)

Utah...SNOW BLOWS!
Being a Northerner, my blood overheats too easily

I was born in Arizona & would take heat over cold any day. Although, I have noticed as I get older (currently 53), I can't take heat nearing the 100's as easily as I did in my younger years. Too many years in Utah, I guess...or I'm just getting old. :D

I like the underhood lights, I bet they light up the engine bay nicely. Congrats on your new boat, it looks nice!
