Was yours made in the USA? I bought a tap & die set before, but then upon someones suggestion I would be better off with a thread restoration kit. I think I will jump on this either way, but USA made takes away any hesitation.

I have one of these, they are made in USA, the only option unless something has changed in the last year or two.. The rethreading kits are all made by one vendor, Kastar, and this kit is the same as the one rebranded as SnapOn as well as other brands.

This is a rethreading kit - thread chasers to clean up and reshape existing threads. A tap and die set makes new threads. Rethreading is good to preserve existing metal when the metal is ductile enough to be reformed, and for cleaning dirt and gunk from the threads without removing metal. If threads are too damaged to restore and you need to go to the next size up, that needs a tap.

BTW, be careful using these in applications where they can exit the back of a blind hole, such as the threaded holes in the engine block for the water pump. If you are not careful, the chaser exits the hole behind the plate, and then it's darn near impossible to get it restarted to get it out of the hole. DAMHIKT :shocking: Just be careful and don't go all the way through the hole and it's fine.

Yes it is, these are sold under Kastar/Lang/Snap-On(Blue-Point)/Craftsman/Mac brands, but the OEM maker for all is Kastar.

These things are great, this is my third set, I gave my first set to my dad when he was rebuilding his Cushman Scooter. I'm using my second set, but over the last 10 years I've worn down a couple of the dies I use the most. I normally buy replacement parts from my snap-on dealer, but they are now about $5 a piece so it was cheaper to just grab another one from Sears to use as spares, since I had some expiring points.

On the price matching front, has anyone else noticed that when they credit the points to your SYW they have a 1 year expiration?

When they issue points your refund with points, they issue them as "base points", which expire in 1 year which is preferred as you can accrue them with the short term points or FreeCash

Thanks, couldn't quite remember which vendor was the OEM.

The one I broke (yes, same incident, DOH) they replaced, I just called them and explained, they sent me a new one. "They" being the OEM, must have been Kastar, it has been a couple years ago.

LOL, yea you are not even joking about that problem I learned that lesson and just ended up cutting the top off the tap so it could fall through...

There is a banner, or should be, on the Sears home page, just under 'Top Sellers' for me. The fine print just says "Offer Valid thru 7/31/18. Only valid for a single member ID transaction. Points expire 14 days once received."

Does the single member ID refer to the masterpass or Sears account?

Aha, finally an end date is found.

I'm pretty sure they mean the Sears/SYW account.

Can one of you guys thats understands the Sears thing explain to me why literally every single Knipex product they have is "temporarily unavailable"?

Is this their way of not selling these products when they have a sale going on?

They probably didn't pay their bill to that supplier.

Hexen, thanks for the reminder on the price matching, It got me $48 in SYW points.

Craftsman 48 pc. SAE & Metric Thread Restorer Kit $38.69, which is as low as I can recall seeing it.

Thanks, and to all those commented on the set. The $5 off $35 worked on it as well, though it took a 2nd coupon try to work. Had $30 in points expiring from the last deal, so it worked out perfect.

Looks like Sears changed the checkout today. Now you enter coupons on the payment page, and you can select what coupon to is to be applied. So looks like it might be for the better, though I'm sure something else got fubar'd up.

That is strange. There are a few tools that don't the sale treatment, like this flex spark plug socket, and are still available. The only Knipex I could purchase, were ones that are available at a store. I hope this isn't the end of Knipex on Sears. While I have most of what I need, I came across another pair I'd get if I could. At the same time, sort of surprised they have lasted this long

I'd like to order this set, but it shows not available for shipping and not in stock within 100 miles of my zip code or Phoenix.

Not showing that way for me. I show plenty in stock...but you will run into them being out of stock because el-cheapo tool enthusiast like ourselves wait until these sales and buy buy buy.

example of a set of alligator pliers still available as well as in stock at my local Sears

You can get those shipped because some store will be shipping those to you. Anything that isn't available from a Sears store somewhere, is NOT available, hopefully only temporarily like it says.

I know 2-3 hours ago these pipe pliers were available for shipping. now only through 3rd party.

Yeah this is what I think as well.

I guess there's a couple things available, but literally zero combination / needle nose pliers or cutters, which is what I was hoping to pick up.

I've never seen it available for pickup, it always has to be shipped, but the shipping option is not showing now for me either, but it was previously. Give it a few hours to a day or two, shipping option may reappear.

Does this work for anyone's zip code? Shows unavailable for shipping in my zip code 23060 and unavailable for store pickup. Maybe could order from a diff warehouse with a zip where it's in stock.

Try 43912 pick up Saint . Clairsville Ohio
If you want to order it I can pick it up and ship, shipping might kill it though.

RSwanson,

In the past, I have purchased Knipex pliers on Sears.com (with discount via Sears points or coupons). The final price with tax is around the same or slightly cheaper than Homedepot.com. However, Homedepot.com has a better selection of Knipex pliers than Sears.com plus there is the option of store pickup.

Was anyone able to get a price adjustment during this sale? I tried, but they said they don't match "online only prices" which most everything on sale is showing.

Did you originally order online or buy in store? I've always ordered online and never had issues for them adjusting the price, even when it was a one-day deep discount thing...

For people that buy from Sears online and have stuff shipped, have you noticed recently that besides the usual "Your item has shipped" email that you are getting an "eReceipt from your Sears store purchase" ?!?!?!

This just started happening to me within the past week or two maybe? Kind of interesting because now I know what store they are shipping my item(s) from.

Also noticed the 1/2"-Drive 18"-Long Flex Breaker is at $9.99 which is a heck of a price.

No problems for me on getting an adjustment on several orders.

Only thing I didn't have them adjust was my $125/ get 125 order where a tool went down under $1. Not worth them cancelling my long term point awards.

That's what I think..... search gearwrench on there, only about 16 things are included with there free shipping offer now. I've run out of stuff to pick up with points only now that they played around with the free shipping offers. Had $45 in points expiring today and could stack a 5 off 50 coupon for $50 total and I had a hard time finding any thing to use it on. Haven't spent a dime at sears in 2 years but use the points every 2 weeks to get something free. Ended up using it on an over priced GP 3/8" metric deep impact set and some consumables.

The chat reps wouldn't mess with your bonus points (the phone reps might be able to, though), but not worth bothering over such a small amount anyway. :)

I've noticed the last few ratchets I've purchased have been made in Taiwan? Did they switch them all over, or just the full-polish are Taiwan and the RP are China?

I was in sears checking out some stuff and looked at COO. Most of the raised panel type and some of the polished are China (75T), the 84T are Taiwan.

I think I'm going to order these tonight... still a few hours left of the F&F 10% off sale:

Irwin 2pc Groovelock Pliers Set, 8-inch & 10-inch V-Jaw
http://www.sears.com/irwin-2pc-groovelock-set-8inch-10inch/p-00914009000P
$17.99 sale, $24.99 regularly (lowest I'd seen before was $19.99)

Craftsman 7pc Bit Wrench Set (Straight, 25-degree Offset, & 25-degree Reverse Offset)
http://www.sears.com/craftsman-7-pc-bit-wrench-set-sae/p-00947477000P
$19.79 sale, $21.99 regularly (this only ever seems to go on sale as part of the overall 10% off days like today)
Probably made by Lang, who makes similar sets but with more ratchet teeth under their own name (at 2x the price) and under Snap-On's Blue-Point name (at 3x the price). There is also a Craftsman one with the higher tooth count here, but seems to only have the one 15-degree offset version, and is only available locally in some stores.

-$5 off $35 coupon code from retailmenot (maybe?? I can't find the dang box to put the code in since Sears redesigned their darn checkout pages this week!)

And using Masterpass to hopefully get $25 back from the promo that ends 7/31.

Coupon goes in right near the point redemption box now on the payment page. If you had coupons absolute, there would be a selection box to select said coupon if is loaded in your account.

Thanks, figured it out... I was looking on that page, but Chrome thought the new coupon code box was an email address box, and there's no label outside the box to say it's supposed to be for coupon codes once other text is already mistakenly auto-filled in it. I had thought they'd started wanting to reverify the email address you were using points from or something. It's working now!

I have those. Nice set, but they scratch up real easy on pavement/cement. If you care about keeping them pretty, it is something to consider. I don't, all I care about is if they work. They do, quite well.

If anyone has major purchase plans, I think this is a new installments-back offer starting today 7/22.

Expires on 08/04/2018
Points issued in 12 equal monthly installments of $25 each are only valid for 30 days of issuance. Members get $300 CASHBACK in points when you spend $300 or more at select Sears stores and Sears.com. Offer not valid with any other offer. Purchase requirement before taxes and after other discounts and must be made in a single transaction. By accepting Shop Your Way member benefits and offers, you agree to the Shop Your Way terms and conditions, available at www.shopyourway.com/terms. Members earn points on qualifying purchases, excluding sales taxes and other fees. Extra points are inclusive of, and not in addition to, any base points earned on qualifying purchases. When extra point offers are combined, total points earned will be less than the combined point totals for each individual offer. "
