My hometown store owner has been in business a long time, he *has* to keep several hundred thousand in escrow with Sears to cover inventory. I remember reading an article recently where Sears was skipping this for new stores trying to get more people to start up Hometown franchises...

It's kind of a one-sided story, and we don't really know all the facts. But yeah it wouldn't surprise me to have Sears close down perfectly profitable stores for reasons we will never know. (Perhaps a competitor wants to open a store in that area so some money gets slid under the table.)

Sears is probably making more selling their inventory to Ace (as evidenced by all the USA tools showing up there) and other 3rd parties than they are through their hometown stores due to the stupid pricing that Sears does.

I know my hometown store owner tells me on some of the holiday "sale" items, like the cheap washers & fridges and such, he basically makes zero commission... Only on higher-dollar items does he actually make anything off the deal. But he still does a lot of business despite there being Lowe's, HD, and numerous other larger local appliance stores.

He also has zero control over his inventory. Sears sends what they send, and he prices according to what the system says. He has a little leeway on larger items, and can price-match, but other than that his hands are basically tied.

We had A Hometown sears At The Highlands, I liked it.
I could order sale items on line, and since I was up that way a lot, Chose Pick Up at that store.
Stocked lots of tools too.
But I guess They were not doing too well, only lasted about a year or less.
The owner was a nice guy too.
On an unrelated side note, when I went in to Look around, or was picking something up, and was looking around, My nerves would always "Sky Rocket"
Cause The sales people (Must of been on commission) totally busted your A$$ with "Can I help you Find something"
or "Were you looking for something in Particular"?
IIRC I got mad a little one time, (Nerves weren't so hot anyways, comes and goes, if you can relate?)
And said something Like "for gods sake, let me look around! Will You?
If I have any questions I'll come get Y'a.:bowdown:

Good price, Tempted to buy it anyways, But I already have all 3.....
Have to discipline myself these days.
Instead of buying something cause it's a 'Good deal" then not using it.

I was hoping for prices to come back down after the $50 cashback expired, but instead they went even higher.

Seems I have a decision to make... Go all in on Sears surviving long enough to pay out and take complete advantage, or back out. This is a hard decision. I feel once all these points deals are cashed in there won't be anything left at sears for sale. . .

I mean its obvious that we are basically loaning Sears our money in return for items and "future points". Gonna wait till the end of the promo period before biting on it if I do.

They still have not released their financial docs for last quarter yet.

My feeling, FWIW, is that Sears at least has 6 months left in it. I wouldn't do one of those deals that takes a year or more to finish paying out, but 6 months is probably safe. Your local store might not be safe, but $33 payouts on the 6mo deal put you close to getting free shipping each month if you do end up online-only.

I think my Sears may be one of the last ones to close. It is in a closed mall (the entire mall parts closed) and it is 1 of 2 anchor stores in the entire mall complex. The movie theater is still open. I'm sure rent is super cheap due to it, and no one else is going to move in when sears leaves.

I'm already getting $35~ in points each month for the next 9~ months... so the debate is do I bump that to $68~/month for the next 6 months for $200 or is the risk too high, and do I need that much stuff from sears for the next 6 months... The first 35/mo was from a washer/dryer and a lawn mower.

Local Sears anchor store is closing in the local large mall. Largest one in the state. Sears has been there 50++ years.

I couldn't care less, good riddance. Haven't bought a Craftsman tool in 10+ years after the quality went downhill and no more store exchanges. A replacement by mail did me no good when my car was in the air and I needed another 10mm socket.

Sears, you can **** it.

The Midwest ones are US-made. But if you want cheaper almost-as-good non-US snips, I got the 3pc Evolv set last year on sale for $12.99 (it's $18.71 currently). That has the basic left/right/straight snips. Then I've recently added long-reach straight and bulldog (short) straight snips from Midwest.

During the winter of 2016-17, they were as low as $22-25. I got a set during that time. Inalso has some points to use. I have never seen them that low since. Recently they have never gotten below $32-35. One of those on line price trackers can be used to verify what I remember .

I’ve mentioned before but don’t forget Kmart.com for using points. I use points for paper towels, deodorant, laundry detergent, etc when I don’t see any great tool deals that I need. Just filter for items with shipping available. I also have about $35/ month in points to spend plus what I win daily. No Sears or Kmart local to me but I still find stuff to use points on.

Bought this set with this week $5 freecash + points. It got a good review, and I could use a set of drill bit in my tool box. I have random sizes, so it will be nice to have a full set like this.

Anybody else get a bunch of calls from the Sears phone system malfunctioning today? (The number that calls to tell you to come pick up an order, but I don't have anything awaiting pickup.) It called me about half a dozen times this morning, within about 5 minutes, hanging up on itself each time before it could say anything to me. Don't think I've had that happen before.

My store had it tagged ~$60 as of two days ago for the stool. I would grab another shovel @ $8 for sure. Is that confirmed nationwide, at least at corporate locations?

edit: maybe they are getting rid of the shovel, as I'm only finding it at Hometown stores at the moment. I haven't even seen the traditional digging shovel listed on their site for a while, now that I think about it.

For those of you that shop in store, Norton Abrasives products were all marked down between 60-90%, but nothing was marked on the shelves. I only found out because I was using some $5 off $5 coupons, and it all rang up dirt cheap at the register. I wiped out everything Norton abrasives at 2 stores for $40 worth of coupons and about $5 worth of SYW points. Most of the packs of were a dollar or less, and Norton makes great abrasives.

My pickup store is very incompetent with order pickup. Sears policy is that each order that takes in excess of 5 minutes to pickup, results in your receiving a $5 off $5 in store only coupon. As a result I split my purchases up into as many orders as possible to maximize the amount of these coupons I receive when pickup goes wrong. At my local store I've never had a pickup not take in excess of 5 minutes. So yesterday I got 6 of these coupons, plus the 1 that the Sears app generates if your in-vehicle pickup goes over 5 minutes. I can't always find something to spend the coupons on due to the restrictions, or don't have time to use them right away. So I normally wait to use them on consumables like sandpaper, wire wheels, buffing wheels, etc on a day I've got time to meander the store. I've still got a dozen more coupons to use up, and they don't expire until sometime in 2020. The whole situation is really comical because it is always the General Manager who brings out my orders, and the coupons. She laments that they are constantly having problems with their pickup system.
