I'm leaving that typo in place.

So an internal sears email regarding store deliveries\

To: Store General Manager, ASM SS/SL/HL, Supervisor SS/SL/HL (All Sears FLS)

From: Bob Murtagh – Sr. Director Logistics Operations; Jamie Trewartha – Sr. Director Operations

Re: DCs and carrier partners delivery update

The supply chain department is working with carrier partners to continue scheduled, on-time deliveries.

Some stores will be experiencing late and rescheduled deliveries. The store’s best and most accurate resource remains their distribution centers (DCs).

The DCs and Hoffman transportation teams continue to work with a broad base of carriers to address impacted deliveries and will communicate any store-specific delays or reschedules as early as possible.

Over the next few days, while this situation stabilizes, we will continue to provide store leaders with the most current information available.

Action required

Work directly with your DC partners by utilizing the store support department (SSD) process, but do not use Pebble groups to seek information about deliveries to your store.

Questions

Work directly with your DC partners.

Running out of ideas on what to burn my last $15 in points/freecash. I have all the Knipex that I think I need, hammers, screwdrivers, files, pliers, tool boxes, tool bags.

Saw the 6 pc clamps from a few pages back: https://www.sears.com/craftsman-6-pc-spring-clamp-set/p-00931493000P. Are they good? I already have the craftsman bar clamps.

Any other suggestions?

The 2" are quite strong. Stronger than when they were USA made ironically. I don't think Sears is getting more in, as I've bought all the singles up over the last several months with low dollar expiring points, and no store has got any more in. The only option now, is the 6-pack. I don't have a use for the 3/4" so much, so it wasn't as good of a deal, but I have 3 $5 free cash offers expring today, and running into a wall trying to find stuff so I may get a pack.

I got a Chamberlain garage door surge protector for $5.19 in store tonight (was $15), to go with my new opener from Lowes.

I also picked up my last chisel to complete the full USA made chisels/punches/center punches. :bounce: There were two nail punches, but were only available in the 16-pack, which have all been non-USA stock from what I have run across.

I already have 2 sets myself. I just know that they frequently became unavailable after we all realized how nice of a tool they were. If you don't have a pair yet, it would be something decent to consider using up points on

When I looked last night, the hose clamping pliers were already unavailable again. They only seem to be available once every few months, for a few hours or less.

There are also Irwin spring clamps (and C-clamps) available individually, just added in the past few months. I played with one of the Irwin spring clamps at the store recently and wow, those are so strong I had to use two hands to get it open! I have a nice amount of Craftsman spring and ratcheting clamps already, and the $11 'Great Neck Tools' bag of extra-big spring clamps, which are good too.

So an internal sears email regarding store deliveries

Also, apparently the Sears UPS contract for the non-truck deliveries is now 'being reviewed' today, Fri 10/12. Not sure what that will entail. But the slightly-good news is, any Sears Authorized Suppliers that haven't pulled their listings yet (things sold by Sears but shipped directly by the manufacturer) apparently have their own UPS contracts that they ship under, they DON'T use the Sears UPS account for those shipments as I had assumed.

Yay more knipex :lol_hitti And I have used up all of my points... It is ok, I sleep better this way.

I just pick-up my order and people who works at the local home store think that business can continue as usual regardless what happened with Sears so they are not worried. I did not think they can continue as Sears, but what do I know. ..

is it too much to ask that if they do go CH 11, or even 7 for that matter, that they drop all of our points on us at once? i mean if they are no longer considered a going concern they cant plan to still be handing out points into next fall.

I was thinking they did those promotions just to stay afloat. Paying them all out at once is doubtfully ot part of that plan. As they are just points, an untangible item, I imagine they would be the first to go away

oh yeah, i seriously doubt they would. just figured if they knew they wouldnt be open past liquidation and the points payout went on longer that maybe theyd shorten it up. though since the points have no cash value all they would be doing is allowing a debt holder (us) to remove assets (store items) that they are technically holding for us on collateral. thats basically what the reuters article just said lampert is trying to do to get kenmore.

but of course we arent billionaires, so who cares about us :lol_hitti

I burned some points on a couple of those Irwin 4" c-clamps. I tried for the 5", but at the time these were a better deal. I haven't received them yet, but hope they are good.

I did order enough of them to stock a friends store for a little Christmas promotion......

At that price, and using points and retail me not discount code to drop the price another $1.80, he and I can both make a good profit on them, AND provide a very nice discounted Christmas sale item. Plus, I got a $75 in points back on the deal that I bought cobalt drill bit sets and Irwin bar clamps with last week.

Coincidentally, or not, after I placed my order, they went out of stock.

Did you get them, yet? I received the same shipping confirmation... but not a notice that they're ready for pickup.

Yea, I'm seeing the same issue, I've got tracking number for 10 of those, and they are just at the "label created" stage.

The clamps work great. I wiped my store out multiple times. I use the little ones for building blanket forts with my kid, and the big ones around the woodshop.

Thanks. I bought 2x of the 6 pc clamps and used up my points. There looks like a chance that Sears might make it through the holiday season, but better safe than sorry.

So lets assume Sears will close January 1, which gives us all about 2.5 months to horde as much tools as possible :lol_hitti

I thought it maybe useful to have a list of what should we buy with/without points before Sears close? I am not talking about Knipex - you can get those anywhere. I am talking about something that are only available at Sears and a great value for the price. Yes Craftsman is sold, so maybe these CF tools may be sold at Lowes in the future, but who knows at what price.

A few things that currently that come to mind:

Craftsman hose clamp $20
https://www.sears.com/craftsman-2.5...SellerId=Sears&prdNo=1&blockNo=1&blockType=G1

Craftsman 3 pry bar set - currently not a great deal at $27, but this been known to go as low as ~$19, which is a great price for US made pry bar.
https://www.sears.com/craftsman-3-p...SellerId=Sears&prdNo=1&blockNo=1&blockType=G1

The other US made pry bars are also a great deal if you happen to catch them on sale. I think I have every type and size of CF pry bars :bounce::bounce:

Thread restorer kit - I am not sure if this one will ever be available again. I regret not getting this set.
https://www.sears.com/craftsman-48-pc-sae-metric-thread-restorer-kit/p-00942275000P

Dead blow hammer 2 and 3 lbs set $50. Also available individually 1,2, and 3 lbs. I think made by Nupla?
https://www.sears.com/craftsman-2-p...lerId=Sears&prdNo=36&blockNo=36&blockType=G36

Craftsman 2 pc. Adjustable Pliers Set - similar to Knipex Cobra $50 when available.
https://www.sears.com/craftsman-2-pc-adjustable-pliers-set-7-in/p-00945433000P

Craftsman 3 pc. Gasket Scraper Set $27. I think these were US made. I bought mine a while back so not sure if these still US made anymore.

The Craftsmn 5 pc scraper set was a better value, if I remember correctly, and I preferred the craftsman 3pc curved pry bar by Mayhew.

The Craftsman brand was sold to Stanley Black & Decker. If Lowe's gets a Craftsman pry bar set, then it's going to be a version made by SBD. The same goes for the other items in your list.

personally, i think this is a pretty good deal if youre looking for a tool cabinet:

https://www.sears.com/craftsman-41-inch-8-drawer-heavy-duty-ball/p-00958646000P

i know a lot of GJers dont care for CM, but at this price its a decent buy IMHO. by the time you use RMN $35/300, get $15 cash back, and use however many points you have saved up, you could get this for $200 or less. sure boxes like HF might be heavier made and/or larger, but theyre also close to $500. even at lowes youre going to be $400+ deep for this.

i plan to pick up at least one more before sears goes under for good, hopefully two by christmas

i agree i'd prefer 24" deep cabinets for sure, but for the price (after discounts) i just cant find anything comparable. my long term plan is to do all my kitchen counters in matching red and blacks. id prefer 52s for that but those 41s are much better price for price

Update from a knowledgeable person on SD today:

" Sears will declare Chapter 11 later today... voluntary reorganization. They will announce 150 store closings as soon as late tonight or early tomorrow. They will exit some cities completely, but for many there will be 1 Sears and 1 or 0 Kmart locations. Only proven profitable Kmart locations will be allowed to continue operating. Sears will keep as many as 250 questionable Sears/Kmart stores open, mostly for logistics to maintain a regional presence for orders and shoppers willing to travel.

As early as Monday morning a bankruptcy judge will do an initial review and assign a court appointed team who will approve financial transactions going forward. This team will review Shop Your Way, approve conditions for allowing returns and refunds, which checks are okay to sign, and all other financial aspects of the business. Their first responsibility is to secured creditors (Fast Eddie is the biggest, followed by Citibank, Wells Fargo, etc.), then unsecured creditors (employees, vendors, and customers.)

They will also be overseeing an effort to find a new buyer, while Sears continues temporarily running with a $500 million financing package provided by the banks. This will cover the stores remaining open until January.

Sears stores are quietly implementing a $500 limit on certain in store eGiftcard redemptions per person, per order in high fraud areas. Plastic giftcards are unrestricted except as noted below. They have also cracked down on directly consolidating gift cards and you are not allowed to buy gift cards with gift cards. These are all fraud control measures as people attempt to liquidate their gift card holdings. There are workarounds. You can buy and immediately return items to slowly consolidate multiple small giftcards into larger ones, but store managers may stop you from doing this multiple times because of return fraud concerns. There is a 4 card redemption limit for online orders, 15 card limit at registers. Max gift card value seems to be $500.

For people walking in with dozens of cards looking for big ticket items, there is a workaround for limits, but it will cost you $5 and will not work on everything. Buy each costly item on layaway. You will pay a $5 layaway fee and then can pay off your contract immediately in store with a series of payments using up to 15 gift cards per payment sequence. I confirmed in the store Kmart and Sears egift and physical cards are an accepted form of payment for layaway payments. It may take awhile, but you can start and payoff the layaway the same day and then get your items. You can also pay off/down layaway online. Not sure what the limits are online. A store manager actually suggested this option after people started coming in with huge piles of cards to redeem.

UPS was still accepting shipments from Sears late Friday with tracking numbers assigned. Some items are taking longer to ship because Sears has to prepay the vendor before the item is released for shipment. "

It's that Viglink redirect thing that garagejournal adds to some links... it sometimes redirects people to the Sears homepage instead of the intended product... quote the post you were wanting to share the link from to get it in its original format.

Googling the Sears item number at the end of the wonky link, 00958646000P, will get you to a working Sears link. Here it is:

Apologies if this was not the case. More than one forum I have been a part of had people come in and replace direct links with the redirect.viglink links in order to profit off of other peoples postings (on general posts, for sale posts, deals threads, etc), which are sometimes their affiliate links that get them a small profit if you buy through the link, like you see with youtube, blogs, etc where someone posts an "affiliate" link.

It looks like your post that I quoted earlier has been edited with the viglink link replaced with a direct one.

with all that said, I happen to have purchased the 40" 8 drawer tool cabinet in question for my wood shop a few weeks ago, and have a Harbor Freight/US General 44" in the garage. The two are not comparable other than holding stuff. The fit/finish/quality of the US general is head and shoulders above the CM one. The CM is noticeably lighter metal, the edges of drawers and the top fold have sharp edges (cut my palm open sliding against the top of the CM box), but for an under-bench cabinet to hold the items I need it to hold - it is sufficient, and with the cash back/points I had, it was about $230 out the door. So no real complaints, but be aware if you dont have the ability to go look at it.

EDIT: I appreciate your apology as well, but not needed. You were commenting on a deal, I read it incorrectly and assumed (based on other forums) that you were doing something. Completely my fault!

Have a great evening, and back to the deals!

 I picked up some Craftsman holiday ornaments last year, which happened to be the 90th anniversary of Craftsman. It's not as if I don't have enough tools to 'remember them by' anyway, but I thought it was a nice memorabilia thing. It's looking like there won't be any more Craftsman ornaments this year, as I'd suspected then... even if Sears doesn't go under yet, they don't have any new ones on the website that I could find, and my store has a bunch of ornaments unpacked and on the seasonal shelves already, which do not include any Craftsman ones.

They found some more ornaments to unpack, and turns out there ARE Craftsman ones again! 5 repeats from last year (now in non-anniversary packaging), but 1 new one, a snowman holding tools. I just spent all my points on other stuff, but I'll probably try to get that one before things shut down, points or no points.

Things I bought today:

Craftsman 16oz Curved Claw Hammer
http://www.sears.com/craftsman-16-oz-curved-claw-hammer/p-00938045000P
$18.99 (not on sale in-store or online, but I wanted to finally get one of these with the unique handle design)

Craftsman 5pc Wood Chisel Set
http://www.sears.com/craftsman-5-pc-wood-chisel-set/p-00936859000P
$25.41 online sale price-matched in-store, $34.99 regularly [$19.99 was the lowest I'd seen, but that was many months ago]

Used up all my points for now, an app reinstall coupon, and my last order pickup delay coupon, and spent a couple bucks OOP.

And if anybody is looking for an inexpensive item, I noticed this is on a great online sale today (full-price in store but they should match if you ask):

Craftsman Cap Wrench Bottle Opener
https://www.sears.com/craftsman-cap-wrench-bottle-opener/p-A011714711
$6.59 online sale, $14.99 regularly
No longer US-made but still gets good reviews.

not sure what the difference with ^^^ and this, but here's another CM hose pinch tool, only $13.68

https://www.sears.com/craftsman-hose-pinch-pliers/p-00949283000P

The other hose pinch tool is coveted because it is a rebrand made by a major truck tool company (I forget which). Unfortunately its availability has been extremely scarce all year. Pops up as available for shipping for a few hours one random day, then goes unavailable again for months. The cheaper one you linked, or the 3pc set of plastic line clamps, is probably fine for most people if you can't get the scarce one. I have been leaning towards the plastic set if Sears and SYW keep going long enough for me to get around to it (I've had other priorities to spend points on, plus didn't want to give up on catching the other one).

that makes perfect sense

completely agree. the HF is made so much better, though the CM is perfectly acceptable. but for less than the cost of one HF cabinet i talked my parents into getting 2 for their wood shop to use as rolling work benches (they made tops for them) and since they purchased both on their own accounts they each got in on the 200/200 deal. even if they dont get all of those points, it was just gravy on top of a great price anyway.

BTW...has anyone even seen this serpentine tool on sale either online or in store?
https://www.sears.com/craftsman-serpentine-belt-tool/p-00941831000P

im rolling the dice and holding off on using my current points for another day or so before i place my next order since another $68 is supposed to drop over the next two days. from here on out i plan to be more judicious in how i spend what scant points they still let us get and i know i could use that tool one day vs all the stuff ive been buying with points just because they were on sale.

I'm not familiar with that one's price history, but there are definitely some tools that are full-price all the time except when they do a 10% off all tools day. I gave in at full price on a hammer today that's in that same kind of situation. At this point I think it's time to get what you want while you can still get it at all, even if it's not the best price ever, especially if you'll still be covering the rest with points anyway... that will definitely be going away when Sears dies, or possibly sooner.

completely agree. the HF is made so much better, though the CM is perfectly acceptable. but for less than the cost of one HF cabinet i talked my parents into getting 2 for their wood shop to use as rolling work benches (they made tops for them) and since they purchased both on their own accounts they each got in on the 200/200 deal. even if they dont get all of those points, it was just gravy on top of a great price anyway.

I wish I had gotten it at the 200/200 deal, but thats the way it works. I still got $75 back, I think, and used it on a dewalt router kit.

It is a "good" box, and I am glad to have it for my needs. With a workbench/top on there like your parents did, as well as the handle, my problem with the edges would not have been an issue. Mine was going under a work bench that I could not raise due to the lathe on top of it, so I had to use it with no handle and no castors, and I was pushing and cut the hand.

I have no doubt the drawers will handle the rated weight, and the size is good for me as I will be putting various wood blanks in the drawers for my uses - I considered getting a new garage bench and putting the HF bench out there, but for my needs the CM 8 drawer just worked out better.
