Wow. They are trying to cut costs but still wanting to pay out 25 million in bonuses. Hometown stores are now being forced to close. Might be some deals to pick up in the local stores.

Hometown is a separate entity with its own issues. Those stores only close when an individual franchisee wants out, and SHOS (the Hometown company) doesn't have the resources to acquire the store and keep it running until they can find a new franchisee to sell it to. Many Hometown locations have been quietly closing over the last several years because of this.

If you do happen to have a closing Hometown nearby (check searshometown.com locator, it lists liquidation status), they often have NOS US tools.

Not so. The local store is being forced to close. 2 other stores in the area owned by a different owner have also been told they are closing.

One thing I find fascinating is that when it comes to Hometown stores everyone is ignoring the elephant in the room, and it's HUGE but EASILY underestimated (which is a mistake):

if John Q Public hears that Sears has closed it's doors 99% of consumers will assume this encompasses their Hometown store, too. People will just stop looking, calling, or even considering Sears for their purchases.

At the very least Hometown owners will have to BLITZ local advertising to educate the public, and even then I guarantee you it'll hurt their sales noticeably for a year or more.

If you doubt me just ask any advertising or marketing professor.

Perception is HUGE (it's almost everything that influences consumer behavior actually)

Mine immediately updated their entrance white board, explaining they were still in business/not closing when the bankruptcy fiasco started a few months ago.

If Sears goes under, but the Hometowns don't, what happens to the inventory in the hometown stores that is "on loan" to them? Does that get sent back for Sears to stupidly liquidate in other methods for pennies & fork over the Hometowns, or they chaulk it up as a loss & the Hometown gets some "free" inventory.

With how much trouble Sears has shipping to their stores, I have to think a nightmare would be waiting on results they have to send back

Ever since Sears Holdings filed for bankruptcy, the local Sears Hometown store has seen a huge increase in new faces showing up. All asking when the liquidation starts.
:lol_hitti

The staff quickly got tired of explaining the difference between Sears Holdings and Sears Hometown & Outlet Stores, and put up a sign about Sears Hometown staying in business.

By now, I think a lot of the locals should be more educated about the situation.

Pretty sure the inventory is 'on loan' from SHOS (the Hometown company), not SHLD (the mall-store company, the bankrupt one).

SHOS ran some TV ads earlier this year promoting that their stores are locally owned. They can run a new round of those if/when SHLD goes into Chapter 7.

Reminder that today's the last day for the week-long 15%-off F&F sale.

I decided to go with the wet/dry vac car cleaning kit for my purchase this week... Unlike the micro cleaning kit which is readily available elsewhere in Shopvac-branded packaging, this kit has no good alternative that I could find (similar contents at a similar price for the same hose size) if I end up wanting it after Sears is gone. Someone thought they'd seen it at a lower price at some point in the past, but this is the best price I've seen it at (15% off full price) since I started watching 3 weeks ago, and I'll ask for points back if it goes lower again in the next 30 days.

Just finished doing my price-protection adjustments on a couple recent purchases that have been on sale this week, didn't have time to deal with it earlier in the week. A few noteworthy points about the experience this time:

1. The Sears.com chat rep seemed to think he could do this for both Sears and Kmart items - I haven't had any Kmart items purchased in a while, so I couldn't test that, but I think it is a new change if Kmart items can be price-adjusted (whether sold through Sears.com or Kmart.com); there had always been a big difference between Sears and Kmart policies on this.

2. The rep tried to say I had to wait "7-10 business days" to get my adjustment points added to my account. When I complained that it had never worked like this before, all my previous price adjustments had been done instantly with chat (only returns/cancellations should take that long), he was able to do an immediate manual adjustment instead. So if anyone else runs into that line, push back some and you may not have to wait.

3. There was no problem getting a second price adjustment on an order that had already been adjusted once before, for the difference between the price previously adjusted-to and the new sale price.

I did a price adjustment about a week ago through chat. I was also told that it could take 7-10 days before it would be posted. I didn’t (wasn’t going to) complain because I didn’t know the policy (this was the 1st adjustment I’ve done with Sears). But during the call the agent said “oh good news your points are already posted to your account”. So as Hexen recommends, it won’t hurt to complain and who knows how long this points business will last.

very jealous! were they the hutches or actual top cabinets? and are you using them in the house somewhere?
In the spirit of the thread these are pretty damn good for $133, 4 drawer roller cab w ball bearing slides:

BTW this is down to $109.** but probably expires tonight so if you havent price protected it you might want to.

and i chatted tonight about my canceled top box to see if they could find another in the same price range and of course they couldnt. half the product listings are OOS if you click into them which really *****. but the chat rep gave me $5 for my inconvenience. that was less than what i was hoping for, but i'll take it ;)

Yeah actually I chatted and had that adjusted yesterday! It was surprisingly painless (first time I've ever tried this) and the ~$25 refund thru PayPal was nearly immediate.

edit: one 42" top is for me, will probably work it into my basement/rec room somehow. The other is for a friend who's replacing all his tools after house fire, TOTAL loss

I had sometime last night so I asked if they can find me another top box in the same price range, or gimme some discount on other models. Nope... I got nothing for my inconvenience. I think it is just depends who you talk to...

I am browsing, and just notice the picture for this tool box. This is getting pathetic. Plenty of pictures on craiglists and eBay that looks better than this. Notice the box without the caster installed, basically someone just un-cover the box and take a picture. The box is not even centered in the picture and the background showing is showing what I assume the cardboard packaging material leaning against the wall. Who in the right mind would want to buy this box when it is presented like this? Kinda hard to root for a company who already given up the fight.

https://www.sears.com/international...erId=SEARS&prdNo=21&blockNo=21&blockType=G21#

EDIT: if the price is really good, I may tolerate the pictures, take my chances and place an order since I am in the market for a tool box.

As the boxes are shipped from the manufacturer, I don't think Sears would have the opportunity to take one themselves, however someone did choose to go through with posting it. Must be someone that isn't getting a bonus. Looks like one of my for sale items when I was living out of a storage locker.

Two things to note.

The international box I just bought 42" shd top and bottom came from elk grove village Illinois. My top is craftsman bottom is international. Shipped by a company called demar logistics. What evidence is there that these are drop shipped from international? Since they sent 150 or so people home and closed their doors who would be doing the drop shipping?

Second thing is Sears.com is open to third party vendors and even eBay sellers so it could be that boxed linked is a 3rd party seller. Or Sears outlet.

LOL, that is a reeeeally bad photo. :lol_hitti (Bad photo is better than no photo, though!) I thought maybe it was a last-minute thing from the final days of SPG International, but Sears says the product page has been up since 2009. :dunno:

Sears being tricky again... the F&F sale ended last night, but it's been replaced by another sale that means an equal discount on tools (most are still the exact same price as the past week) through Christmas. Guess I didn't need to hurry and order something yesterday evening after all, since I didn't have anything expiring yet, but had no way of knowing. :dunno: (I did get the last online-orderable one of that product at my store, though, so there is that.) Annoying to see the last line of this blurb; if they don't have similar prices in-store, this could be a problem if they do another in-store-only coupon.

" Dash Away Deals!
Expires on 12/25/2018
Extra 15% off tools sold by Sears. Reflected in price shown. hide details
Valid on items marked sold by Sears and/or Marketplace except where indicated. Excludes DeWalt, NewAge, Clearance, Great Price, Hot Buy, Smart Buy, and Unilateral Pricing Policy items. No in-store price matching allowed. "

I noticed that picture about a week ago LOL

Honestly it made me skip over the product 'cause I was afraid it was a sketchy third party vendor

The local store is being forced to close.

If that is the case (and not just what they are telling the public) they have most likely violated their franchise agreement. SHO lacks the authority to "close stores" if the store is compliant with their franchise agreement.

Usually when franchised stores tell customers they are being "forced to close" it's because they don't like the franchise terms or something, tried unsuccessfully to negotiate a lower franchise fee, etc. It's very rare that they are really being forced to close, and usually a legal battle ensues. It's very, very difficult to force a franchise store to close if they are compliant with the franchise agreement.

I don't know all the behind the scenes details, but it's more than one store and more than one owner. The people at the closest store to me said they were not meeting their sales goals. Maybe that is a violation of their contract. It has to be difficult to meet sales goals without new merchandise to sell. The one owner is losing 2 stores and keeping his 3rd one open for now. Whatever the circumstances of the closings, it's a bad deal. I bought a lot of stuff from these stores and had a lot of stuff delivered to these stores. Maybe there will be some sales as it gets closer to Jan. 19th.

Hey Hexen, did you ever get your Sharksaw? If not, maybe try ordering, again... it looks like it's still on sale.

I used mine this afternoon... and that adjustable handle is really handy.

Good to hear it's living up to expectations. My order fell into some weird unlucky timeframe, people who ordered before me and after me got theirs fine, but it briefly went into 'temporarily unavailable' status a few hours after my order was placed and that caused it to get cancelled somehow. I haven't reordered yet, been buying other things the last few weeks, but I'm thinking about it... :headscrat Maybe if I can score some freecash/coupon next week.

looks like more top boxes are on sale again. the 42" international hutch is down even lower than the F&F from last week, now $131.74 with free shipping and the best part is its not listed as a hot buy so you can use a $10 off $100 RMN coupon or $20 off $150 with a $20 item as cart filler.

International 42 in. 4-Drawer is even lower too, at $79.89 (down from $93.**) and shipping shows as $39.25 for me, still a great price on a top box but not a hot buy so coupon eligible

International 56 in. 6-Drawer $169.99 w free ship. after $20/150 RMN thats $150 bucks to your door. crazy price

im really not sure if i want to buy now or roll the dice and wait--it looks like theyre just clearancing everything out to buffer their last quarter sales stats. i wouldnt be surprised to see some of these even lower in another week

I just ordered the 42" at $80+40 before you posted.

What's the RMN? I was on the fence on the 56", already ordered a blue at $199 shipped. All I've got right now is $35 off $300

edit: retail me not sorry

Capacity cu. in.:16746
Width :56 (in.)
Depth :23.50 (in.)
Height :18.25 (in.)
Drawer Weight Capacity :100 (lbs.)
Item Weight :167 (lbs.)
Proudly made in North America
Comes with liner

Ah you beat me to this  Agree that this is crazy price. I just put an order for the 56in. With $45 in points, it is $110 delivered to my door which a big plus since I do not have a pickup truck. I am super excited, and hope they do not cancel my order like the 40in top box a few days ago.

For the record, earlier Saturday evening, around 8 PM ET, it was at $200 with free shipping. If it does go cheaper... price protection here I come :lol_hitti

At this point, I rather pay a few bucks extra than missing the deal. Some of my points are expiring 12/18. I was going to wait until morning to see if I get $10 from sweeps weekly but I am guessing they have limited number of these in the warehouse.

Man it really pays staying up late haha (assuming that our orders are not cancelled).

EDIT: this is the CF version of the box. Same exact pics except the Craftsman badge for a lot more money. https://www.sears.com/craftsman-56-...lerId=Sears&prdNo=35&blockNo=35&blockType=G35

i was on the fence between the 4 drawer and the hutch as i didnt need either but had $128 in points to kill. i decided to pop on the hutch since my 27" that came in the other day was so well made and id already scored a free top box earlier this year from points. plus i dont see the $80 box dropping any lower but theres always a chance the hutch will and i could price protect. i added a $21 door trim removal kit and used a $20 RMN coupon to make it $4.97 OOP shipped to my door for both. god, sears, youve lost your mind :D

EDIT:

.....aaaaand not even 5 minutes after i ordered its back up to the $154 price from last week. guess sears really just wanted to give me an extra $23 off for no reason ;) ;) :lol_hitti:

EDIT 2:
im either tired and seeing things, or it looks like most of those boxes we just posted have gone back up in price. WTF? you guys just ordered boxes too, right? please tell me im not crazy and fell into a time warp wormhole somewhere

We must have been at the right time, and happen to caught a glitch in the price. The 56in top box is now showing $339.99. I did manage to order it at the lower price.

You are not crazy

I see Tabs already went for it, but just to reemphasize the point for anyone else, the low prices with free shipping eligibility on these International toolboxes seem to be very fleeting sometimes. If you see one you want, get it while you can, and watch for price adjustment opportunities later. Otherwise the sudden reappearance of a $100+ oversized shipping fee can kill your deal.

I've been seeing that happen on several UPS Surepost shipments lately. If UPS has enough capacity in your area, and especially if delivering in a well-populated area that they'd be frequenting anyway, they sometimes skip the step of handing a Surepost package off to the USPS for the final leg of delivery, which would've taken a day longer.

Freight is a whole other matter, though, I don't know much about that.

UPS ALWAYS brings me Surepost if they've got Ground stuff for me anyway. I always figured their system automatically trips it to come to me if it sees the driver will be here anyway.

Those of you hoping for price protection - maybe. In many cases the COLOR you ordered will just show as not available or have a sky high price (quite possibly 3rd party) while the exact same box in other colors will drop in price.

Earlier in the week the 56" top was $199 + free ship in black, red, blue and orange (IIRC). As of last night at least only black was showing available. I found the orange (I think - it was late) at ~$700

I already have a $199 blue on order but if it drops I'll price protect.

I also grabbed a black last night at $150 shipped. I blame you Tabs!

Do you have UPS My Choice premium membership? Because you would get unlimited free surepost upgrades to Ground.

It is still free shipping right now, but looking at my invoice, shipping charge for the 56in is $198.75 which would really kill the deal. I dunno how they make profit out of this deal, unless they only have a few and really want to get rid of them from their warehouse.

EDIT: hmm I just realize this am that the depth is 23.5in. In the excitement last night I thought depth is 18.25in (which actually # for height). I am going to have to rethink where I am going to place this box. All of my shelvings are ~18in wide, so this box is going to stick out a few inches.
