Working on a new wall storage rack. Honestly the plier rack mounted to the plywood is almost perfect.

But for 4$ at Goodwill I thought I'd try this brochure rack.

I don't like that it holds some of them open, but it definitely holds a lot more! 50c52855f77a70abae0cc9fe034b959e.jpg1b4f479b6bfc0ef3c7b74fa5f6c3a96f.jpg59b79e42e5ce9e062d7e4371cd333d91.jpg012037d94b2e41f53b4e2ffdf172a811.jpg

This is at home in my workshop. Got it off Amazon. Unfortunately it only comes in red, but my wall control accessories are blue so I had to paint in to match.a777dcefb505243bc0f77494a18b355b.jpg

Did you have to do anything to get it to fit tightly to the wall control? I'm finding most pegboard stuff have a sloppy fit that makes it disappointing.

I came up with this design for wall mounting. This is my original build.

Here is one I made for a friend.

The t track allows for adjustable width and keep the pliers oriented correctly, and the shelf and the magnet hold them in place. It makes it easy to see when one is missing, and fits several into a narrow section of wall.

Here's an "under construction" pic showing how I assembled it. At this point I was thinking it might just be a Channellock drawer - but I ran out 😔 and had to include some Knipex. 😏

Not near my garage tonight so pics not available, but i have some flatware baskets (from dishwashers) to hold pliers, etc. Lots of ways to hang these on wall and even carry them to work area.

I like spending the least amount of money possible on tool storage, so I have more money available for tools and my other hobbies. As a result, the racks I made for some of my "occasional use pliers" were made out of used closet wire shelving. A friend was doing a little remodeling and about to take some to the dump, so he happily let me have it instead. I didn't make a complicated shape out of it, I just used an angle grinder with a cutoff wheel to cut long rectangular sections of it, and then I bent it right down the middle to a 90 degree angle.

The white vinyl coating chipped off where I made the bend on my two "occasional use Vise Grip" racks, because those shelving pieces were older and had a thicker and more brittle vinyl coating. My Vise Grips haven't mentioned being embarrassed of the cracked plier organizer, so I left it as is. One day I might hit the exposed metal at the bends with a quick spray of white paint to keep my Vise Grips from feeling underappreciated.

RACK??? Hell, mine are stacked at least two deep in the drawer....how you guys can keep everything all "neat & pretty" is amazing to me....I'll never have enough room in a tool box! ;)

Oh....and how your tools never show any wear..... :lol_hitti
In the USAF we had to do foam cutouts and shadow boards.
Was a real PITA if a tool broke and the replacement was the same.
Also took a ton of room. I'd need a toolbox 5x the size of mine to do that.

Dang I don’t have a pliers rack because my box doesn’t have a lot of deep drawers lol. And don’t have enough pliers either haha.
Same.

I've got maybe 7 or 8 pairs.

Not something I use very often.
Keep most of them with other things, like vice grip clamps with the welder, dikes with electrical gear, etc.

Some of the pics on here, do you guys use tools or just display them?

There are all kinds on GJ. Some are just getting started in tools, others are about done. Some are professional tradesmen, others are home garage tinkerers. Some collect pliers as a hobby, and others collect everything they can find of one particular tool brand. Some like to buy and then learn about the history of every tool they can find, others only care about finding a quality tool that does a job they need done. Some meticulously clean their pliers after each use and try to keep everything looking brand new at all times, and others don't care about that sort of thing. This forum has it all.

Pliers are like hammers. If you are a framer by trade, you likely only need a couple different hammers and you won't feel like your tool selection is lacking if that's all the hammers you have. If you do lots of different types of work, you need framing hammers, roofing hammers, masonry hammers, blacksmithing hammers, dead blow hammers, various ball peen hammers from 2oz to 2lb in size, brass hammers, electrician hammers, a good selection of autobody hammers, copper hammers, lead hammers, split head leather faced hammers, geologist hammers, tinners hammers, sledge hammers, tiny precision work hammers, tack hammers, black rubber mallets, white rubber mallets, flooring mallets, etc. You can have all of those and still feel a desire to buy or make a couple more specialty hammers, because the ones you already have don't quite do a certain job well.

I just don’t know why it matters - I see that comment dropped a lot, as if it’s some sort of insult to have clean tools in a well-maintained box. And even if someone does collect tools only for display, what’s wrong with that?

Not "Display" exactly.
More like Gollum with his Precious. For ME!!! to see, not YOU!!!
(Oh, the shiny! Precious! Mine!)

Really, it's more about organization and being able to FIND something.
It's great knowing I have to tools for a job.
It ***** not knowing where they are.
If all you have are six pliers, two hammers, three screwdrivers and a (metric) socket set... You're probably right.
If you have forty-fifty years worth of tools that you use on a regular basis...

The annoying thing I have is pretty sure I have a tool, but can't recall if it's in my home toolbox or work toolbox.
Or... having it at the wrong place when I need it.
Phillip's. Home I have 4 toolboxes, cabinets and shelves in a shed too.
And where do my #2 Phillips screwdrivers keep going. Have 3 or 4 full sets, a ton of flathead, but only 1 or 2 Phillips.

At home I'm everything from a framer to a plumber to equipment mechanic.

At work, I setup my tools when I was logging, so heavy equipment. Have moved over to road maintenance, though looking to work as a mechanic at the railroad.

I generally wipe tools down before putting them away.
Don't need to look brand new, but like stuff to be reasonably clean, especially of grease/oil or mud.

My first toolset was about 30 years ago. I don't buy stuff just for the purpose of owning or collecting". No sense in wasting money, have enough stuff as is.

If having 15 pairs of never used water pump pliers makes you happy, strange, but whatever, could be worse things to waste money on I suppose.
If I ever get to that point in life, I'd save it or donate to others.

My most used pliers in Ernst racks. Didn’t use these until I retired but wish I done it when I was working out of this drawer everyday.

And the misc “pile O pliers” drawer. Maybe some day……..
