I bought this Kennedy box full of tools yesterday. Turns out it’s now the oldest tool box I own. The patent date is 1916, but Don turned up a catalog page from 1924 that shows the same box. Pretty old either way.
I gave it a wash today and rubbed out the paint a bit. Looks much better.

I picked up this Snap on four drawer roller yesterday. Not sure of the model number or approx year yet but am still looking. It is a little rough but should clean up ok with some hammer work and elbow grease. Ed.

I did some searching through the snap on collecting site and I would say the box I just found is a Snap on K-77-W. Made from 41-46 from the catalog cuts. If the site is right they didn't change the catalog page much those years either. Pics from 41' and 46'. Ed.

I ran across this Craftsman Tool box. I normally am not into boxes so rough, but this one caught my attention The Letters of the Craftsman name are stamped up as is the numbers 6516 under the handle. The tray has rounded edges on the bottom. I have never seen that before.

Anyone have any idea as to the age of this one? It is going to take some work to straighten this one out, but I thought I would try.
John

I have a stamped Craftsman 6516 too. My father bought it brand new in 1957. He was the head helicopter mechanic/supervisor at the largest helicopter training school in north Texas during the 1950's, 60's, and 70's. It was his daily travel box for decades. It is one of my pride and joy toolboxes.

I think yours is actually a KR377 B from the late 50s. Check the back, it might be stamped.

You may be right on that zkling. They look pretty similar and I quit looking through catalog pages when I thought I had a match with a k 77. Not sure what that is sticking off the back of the 377b but everything else makes sense. I do have double slides on the bottom drawer. Also the lower compartment cover stows away under the bottom drawer. Still, I looked the whole thing over pretty closely, in good light, and can find no numbers on it. I don't think it has been repainted either. Thanks for the help. Ed.

Two metal cabinets I got for free. I scavenged the 5" solid rubber casters (two are locking) off the red chest, and am going to clean it up, fix it up & sell it. I think it was a storage/display for some automotive assemblies, or parts, like ignition parts. The door is a double piano hinge, w/a missing locking latch, and a male/female spring latch, too. The sheetmetal is a heavy-gauge, the construction is welded, but the (missing) back was fastened in-place with nut-serts. I'll probably replace it with a piece of scrap plywood, the top was already replaced with a plywood piece, and while it was originally red, it's been sloppily brush re-painted. I cut-off the deep piece on the front of the inside shelf, to allow more room for things. I may make a half-shelf inside out of scrap plywood.

The grey chest of drawers is for small parts, the drawers aren't on rollers, there is an exterior bar to hold all the drawers closed, as you move the bar to either allow all drawers to open, or all are barred from opening as the bar moves to hold them closed. It came with several teflon tape rolls, a bunch of crimp electrical terminals, some heavy-duty L-brackets, misc. nuts, bolts, and washers, etc. I'll sand it and spray it, and probably sell them both.

Yes sir. From 1957 until it closed in December 1972. He worked for Southern Airways.

I know a whole bunch of people who went through there before heading to Rucker & then Vietnam. The former engine shop now houses a business that restores & maintains helicopters. They seem to specialize in OH-23's.

Anybody interested in this S-K Wayne 'machinist box'? Maybe a bit on the lightweight side, but still kinda cool looking.
Only $45, Dallas, TX area (other side of the metro area from me)

Both my father and grandfather worked for Southern Airways at Fort Wolters. My father, Harry Tschoerner, was the supervisor at the helicopter shop and my grandfather, Floyd Snow, worked in the engine shop. Daddy had the opportunity to go to Rucker but chose to stay in north Texas. There is a lot of history at Fort Wolters. I go out there occasionally. Here's a pic of an old OH 23 manual from Daddy's rollaway.

Shared a couple of your pics & the story with some Vietnam Huey pilots on FaceBook that started at Wolters. One of them posted this:

I have one of these tool boxes and had no idea it was carried by helicopter mechanics. I was just a pilot. I am honored to have an object used by some of the most talented guys involved with helicopters.

I found an interesting box last Thursday. It is shop-made from galvanized sheet steel, spot-welded. The fit and workmanship is excellent. I suspect that it was an apprentenceship project, and got a passing grade!

It contained 84 files, with a piece of oil-soaked felt to cushion the bottom. For $5.00 I couldn't resist! I also posted it in the Garage Sale thread.

Just a side note for the Vietnam helicopter mechanics, I worked for Chandler Evans in West Hartford Ct. We made the fuel control / fuel pump unit that was used on the Avco engines. I was part of the team that put the wear resistant, long life, fuel pump into production.

Here's one I picked up today. Not sure of the year but it's the first Kennedy box I've seen with a bronze name plate on the front. I have a similar sized one of newer vintage that has three trays.

I picked up this oldtimer at the flea market this morning. The leather handle and the rounded corners caught my eye. It has a little drop front panel, one slide-out drawer, and a removable tray. I'll be posting more photos of it and its brand-matching contents in an appropriate thread (if I can find one) or its own thread later...

I have a similar roller and it's date stamped 1986. I'm away from home so can't check the model number but it seems to be like the model number you posted (pictured here). On rollers, look near the area highlighted in yellow on the pic. You usually have to get the light hitting it just right to be able to read it. IF it's date stamped, there will be a 4 digit number indicating month and year. On top chests, look inside the top compartment, near the front left corner as you're facing it. These stamps can be difficult to see as they're generally not very deep and if there's dirt and grime it'll need to be cleaned off.

Here is a wartime McAleer box I found on Thursday still wearing most of it’s original paint, complete with the upper tray. This is the style of box used for many WW2 toolsets.

So my Dad and I picked this up today at a yard sale a couple blocks down the street from my house. Someone hit it with spray paint but I like the look of it. No markings on it other than a Made in USA 8-72. It's definitely older than me... I hope. Any help on identifying the maker would be appreciated. Thanks. 1d5084da6ffdb1af3a655a57d9de935d.jpg8ba2773d265e424f322b1b4eb17a6c2f.jpg7bb5d58bfe1019795638b9f598637a6a.jpg

The knobs and latches don't say Craftsman to me at all. I was thinking Park at first, but that's different also.

Any markings on the latches?

It's definitely seen better days. The only marks that survived any of the use and abuse it has over the years is two holes on the right side of the bottom drawer. Thinking this might be where the badge used to be.
