It was a fairly nice weekend. I hadn't looked at the weather for where the press was and I ended up stopping to get a tarp. First time I have ever parked under the canopy at the home improvement store, kind of nice as it started raining pretty good. Tarp was trash after 2 hours of driving, but it was worth it to keep the water away from the gears and mechanisms of the press.

Strouty have you ever tried a sleep number mattress? We got one about 2 years ago and really like it. Just grab the remote and adjust the air pressure on each side to just how you like it. It was on sale for around $1400. I am tight, but glad we spent the money for it as it helps with my wife’s RA.

My wife swears by our sleep number, i like it too but i can sleep just about anywere. But if my back is hurting etc. Its nice that i can adjust it. When my sciatica was giving me fits the only place i didn't hurt was laying in bed.

When I bought the latex one, I thought the reason my back hurt was that the old tempurpedic was too soft, so I went firmer, apparently the tempurpedic was to firm and I really effed things up. The couch works well, but makes for a complicated evening, especially when the GF wants to watch the final episode of Game of Thrones and I just want to go to sleep. I am looking into various mattresses, Memorial Day seems to be a big sale time for them.

yeah, that's the trouble with latex. You almost need to try it for a while to see what firmness you like. The place in Detroit has a room with various harnesses to try out for a while. I guessed and got pretty close to optimum. Still working well at 10 yrs for what it's worth. I know normal spring mattresses don't last that long.

The latex will probably last forever, even my tempurpedic was almost 20 years old. I may need to go with a pillow top spring, I don’t think I can handle anything too firm. I mean my tempurpedic was fine for ever, then one day it wasn’t. It was like a light switch, all of a sudden I couldn’t sleep for more than 5 or six hours without waking up with back pain. Same exact thing with the new latex mattress. Go figure. But the couch doesn’t do that to me.

At this point I am refusing to buy a new mattress, I am going to go with a decent mattress topper, it has a 45 night sleep trial, so if it doesn't work, I will then move on to a new bed. I am a compact, heavy guy, my shoulders are wide and I am a side sleeper almost exclusively. Basically they don't make a mattress for me, I create pressure points on my shoulders and hips, my neck and lower back suffer a lot. On the couch, my shoulder is able to sink in a bunch, so it seems to even things out. The couch isn't long enough for me, so I have other issues that is creates. Overall, the couch is better than the bed and I have considered moving the couch to the bedroom and getting a new couch. I already sleep in a separate room from my GF, she can't take the CPAP noises, honestly once we started sleeping in separate beds, it made both of our sleep lives ten times better, at least until I started having problems with the mattress.

I think it is the same unit, I set it to auto, seems to like a bit over 10, it is much better with the rain out, I have the climate hose, except I hate how it is not as flexible.

X, hope you had a good nap. ;)

No good updates, back is still not good. Long weekend is probably going to be no fun for me, stressed about family/business matters. I know that is why my back is still messed up, I am trying to come up with a solution that I can live with, I think I almost have one, seems to work on paper anyways.

I think I would prefer upper areas of Texas or maybe New Mexico.

In the past, I have essentially used my schedule flexibility to take advantage of the best weather, I think I need to de-flex my schedule and set some days and stick with them, as soon as I start flipping things around, everything seems to go to hell. Right now I am thinking that Mondays will be a shop day, Snap On guy is usually there in the afternoon so that kind of makes sense to me. Then I am thinking Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday for office, but have it be scheduled from noon to six, most likely it would be earlier or later depending on the day. That leaves Friday, Saturday, and Sunday open. At least this gives me some guidelines and I can schedule any appointments around this schedule. That way if someone is looking for me, I will be in the office those days and they can count on it as well. I generally do work on the go as well as at home or at my shop, it all depends on what the task is. Lately I have been out of the office too much and really need to be more consistent as things are pilling up. My to do list (using todoist) has gotten out of hand due to the fact that I am waiting for others to get me info or get back to me, it is frustrating and I don't feel like I am getting things done, because they are always on my list. I have also seriously let my inbox get out of hand, that needs to be dealt with this week, I need it to be zero or as close as possible, things are getting jumbled and while searching on the computer is easy, on my phone it is a bit of a cumbersome PITA.

By Tuesday, I need to have a new mailbox, the old one has had it, my mail was soaked, it was like a wet t-shirt contest for bills.

Pines, was that at Chip and Dales? ;)

Back is a touch better today, going to play it safe and take it easy. I would like to get here early tomorrow and just try to clean things up, no strings attached, no plans, no goals, just some forward movement.

At this point I would like to try and set a small goal for Monday, I would like to get the new mailbox post (remake the old one?) built and assembled. I am not going to go at this from an artistic/perfectionist standpoint, I just need it functional and taller (to avoid the snow plows this winter). Seems reasonable to me.

My mailbox got knocked down while back, i had a nice cedar post etc... i said forget it when to the back yard looked in the wood pile, found a used post and simple and done. Farm equipment likes to hit them around here so for once didn't make a project out of it.:)

If I had to deal with farm equipment, I'd use a piece of well casing filled with concrete with a piece of 3/4" plate welded on top. It'd get the farmers to use their heads for something besides a hat rack.

My original post is pretty rugged, it is not to Postal Specifications (too short), so the local municipality blames me for their plow guys hitting my mailbox. Ultimately I would like to make a nice large one that hangs from chains, they seem to be the only style that survive big snow storms. I want to use a small tower section and make it look neat, but this one is going to be totally utilitarian.

Except I got ambitious, now my back hurts and I am stressed out. Tonight I found two more ebay items that were described incorrectly, this makes three in the last two weeks. I am a bit annoyed, then I started the return process incorrectly and in trying to back out, I essentially closed one case, then I had to go through PayPal. I said that the item didn't fit, ebay said it was a buyer's remorse situation, apparently I didn't see the not as described link. Regardless it ***** as both pieces were very nice, just the wrong mount for my lathe. The seller's both described them as D1-3 mounts, but both are D1-4, my guess is they confused things thinking that the 3 or 4 was the number of cam lock pins, but they both have 3 pins, just different sizes and bolt circles. :(

I get a kick out of eBay, you call them and it is all foreign based support, you call PayPal and it is definitely not foreign based. One of the sellers called and left a message at 11 last night, they told me they were refunding my money and to keep the item, no refund yet, will see what happens. The other seller emailed me, I responded, but have not heard back, they were questioning why I want to return the item.

Strouty if you run into return issues I have a D1-4 mount on my lathe and maybe it’s something I can use...

There were a couple old lathes at the place I bought the arbor press from, probably could have bought them for next to nothing, but I wasn't in the mood for too much more stuff.

I will say that today seems to be turning into a clean up at the house day, my back is feeling decent and I am tired of tripping over some of the junk at the house. I just brought in one of the recliners, then I hooked up the garden hose reel out back (damn spigot is junk again). I figure doing something, even at home, is better than doing nothing. I feel like I am frustrated far too often, so I need to work on that as well. I keep forgetting, well maybe denying, that the shop doesn't make me any money, so the amount of money, time, and effort it seems to **** from my life is not proportionate to everything else, I see this as a problem, it would be different if I didn't go there and get frustrated (read infuriated).

Shops are like engineers, they don't make anyone any money, but they're a necessary tool in order to be able keep things moving. If the tool isn't usable, something needs to change.

The usability is still there, just surrounded by superfluous tasks that seem to have a rinse and repeat feel. I am the something that needs to change, I know this, but knowing is not half the battle, at least in this case.

Just filled up the maroon burb, wish I had filled it up right after my road trip, I got 18 MPG out of 540 miles, 200 of it was around town. Bet I was close to 20 on my road trip. Not bad for 8000 pounds of 4X4 truck and stuff.

I dug up the old mailbox post, I found another pipe, now I have to cut to length and weld the bracket on, not sure if I am going to bolt to the bracket or add some wood and screw the mailbox to the wood. I am thinking about making a bracket that would allow for a break away situation if the plow or snow being pushed by the plow hits the box, then the box would turn 90 degrees out of the path. I do not want this complicated, I just want my mail, I eventually want to make a really overly complicated artsy post to hold a bigger mailbox, that would be someday, not this someday though. For having been in the ground for ten plus years, the galvanizing and welding that I did has held up, hopefully my bolts will come loose relatively easily too. The worst part of all this is that somehow there are mosquitos in my shop, but not outside???

I live most of the year with mosquitoes in my shop. Also dress in T shirt and shorts pretty much all year. Legs and arms get pretty ugly some days.
