You’re most welcome. I’ve also been collecting the series of Craftsman scrapers, etc. I’m putting together sets for myself and my sons-in-law.

I think they’re very high quality. Originally they were all USA made by Titan Tools. I’m not sure whether they’re still USA, but all the ones I’ve purchased so far have been including the 1 1/2 inch chisel scrapers I got earlier this year.

Picked up my latest stainless scraper/putty knife this evening. They are still mostly US-made - "assembled in the US of US and global components". Looks great, once I cleaned all the adhesive gunk off. (It's not even an adhesive label, but they held the darn thing on with cheap tape that disintegrates instead of coming off cleanly. Oh, and my previous ones had it worse - adhesive under the label that left even more gunk. )

Even though it's not a chisel edge on this one, it is sharp enough to slice through package sealing tape.

The Blowout event is live at the Sears store. People are snatching up stuff pretty fast, and a senior associate said not to expect these items to be restocked.

This feels like we need to clear the warehouse sale. Who knows, maybe they already sold the warehouse/building...

I suspect this also. I just read a report that Sears may not have enough cash on hand to exit chapter 11 and may be headed to chapter 7 before the end of the month. Probably the reason for this firestorm sale this weekend. I think the end if finally coming about. I hope I am wrong, but I just don't see them lasting through the calendar year.

People get confused about this a lot. We are not still doing business with that Sears. Sears Holdings Corporation (SHC) sold all of its assets, including the Sears/Kmart/SYW websites and all remaining Sears/Kmart-branded stores, to the new company Transform Holdco LLC. This meant SHC became an empty shell that was always intended to end up in chapter 7. SHC was a publicly-traded stock until its value dropped too low last fall. Transform is privately-held.

Transform has plenty of money (for a while, at least); they got billions of dollars in funding to start up in Dec 2018, and still have enough liquidity that they are in the process of buying up most of Sears Hometown & Outlet Stores (SHOS) (the outlet stores portion is being sold to some other hedge fund, but they're keeping the rest).

Read the fine print for the freecash offer. Some of them now have a 'Hot Buy' exclusion.

I don't see blown383 mentioning any freecash.

Coupons don't work on 'Hot Buy' items, but customer service can over ride it. They probably didn't want to let a $500 sale get away. Just start a chat, and see what they'll offer to convince you to let them place the order.

Look for the BOLD print in his post about using freecash. Edit, he was quoting someone else, Tabs...

The tool dept will be reduced, and Christmas stuff will be moving into the new space.

Most Sears stores are gone, but I remember all the ones I frequented had the tool dept near an entrance. For the one remaining store I shop at, this year the customers will be immediately run into the holiday section using that entrance.

Sorry, you quoted blown383, so I thought you were referring to that purchase.

Oddly, it was tabs that originally started the discussion about freecash not applying on 'Hot Buy' items.

I’ve run into that hard to remove adhesive on those too. I attributed it to very old stock. Some of the cardboard labels looked yellow with age.

The one upside to the out of stock items is very good customer service when issues arise:

I ordered the SAE offset wrench set shipped to home. What arrived was actually 5 individually tagged offset wrenches, one of which was metric 13x15 instead of the 1/2 x 9/16. I got on chat seeing if they would ship just that one wrench. They couldn't but because the item is OOS, I got the entire thing refunded shipping and all and get to keep the wrenches, one of which was a USA old stock unit. Pretty cool. This sort of thing is probably pretty common on the out of stock closeout items. Check it out if you have any defects in the stuff you receive.

Wow congrats. I was late, and that SAE offset wrench set was OOS. I do not need the SAE set, but at that price, why not :bounce:

I do have the metric set which I bought a while back. I can not complain, pretty decent set for points and very little OOP, or in your case, free set

well i just got my first partial shipment for my wed night order...and received duplicates on 3 of the 4 items :bounce:

the packing slip shows 3 duplicate lines for those 3 items, all with qty of 1. order was placed by myself, not through chat (before i knew they'd give me free shipping) and my orders page shows correct quantities and my cc wasn't charged double.

fingers crossed the rest are like that too

1 order, qty 13, 10 items, 5 ups #s, 3 duplicates so far

i officially feel very good about this sale :pimpflash

EDIT: and per my sears email saying my items have been delivered...there should have only been 3 items total in the box to begin with, so i'll probably get a duplicate on that 4th item that was in the box. it shows as a different ups# on syw ;)

Well, I see part of the reason for why that happened - when items come with those stickers on them, they were shipped by a local-to-someone-else Sears store, rather than the warehouse. I don't know why duplicated items occasionally happen, but it happened to me once too on a pickup order at my local store.

Sears is everything not to be once you're an established business. Neglect all your locations; stay out of date and inefficient. Dont listen to your customers. Be wasteful. Let top executives milk the company for it's business money to turn into their paid income. Have a website that is poorly designed and doesn't function properly. Have no rhyme or reason on sales. Charge a ridiculous regular price. Give rewards to customers that dont work properly or show on account. (about to do the chat on that in the morning).

I'd never mess with sears if they didn't lose their *** on profit on my every order. One year we went on a vacation with all the things i bought for less than $1 ea; most of the time free. 2 blow up beds, half dozen pillows, sheets, coolers, camping chairs, several thick bath towels, 6 or so different tshirts. They kept giving free reward points on different housing and cloth sections.

Thanks for the explanation on that sticker, Hexen. I have seen a few.

I tried to buy the post level, but it ran out last week when I was getting my order settled.

My order should be here today. I am glad to have caught this sale.

I went to a Sears near my mothers last night (50 miles from my house).
The stock that was listed as unavailable or out of stock via the website was available on the shelves. Picked up putty knives, web belt for tool bag, some of the General Tools and the craftsman snips scabbard. 9 pieces for <$25.

I think that sums it up perfectly and why we are all hanging around in this room

Damn it, now the SAE offset wrench is Temporarily unavailable, so it seems that it is gone for good. I was hoping it may come back so I can place my order....

Those extreme grip screwdrivers are the best for the price. I paid more for my set, and they are worth it imo.

They usually do that for the last one of each item (save it for an in-store customer), but sometimes they randomly do it when there are still several left of an item too.

more stories of order mix ups

first, i did get a dupe for the 4th item on my first shipment. cool.

second, more of my first order came in and it looks like the item was updated but the description wasnt. Craftsman 12 PC. CHISEL/ALIGNMENT SET doesn't have the 16" pry bar in it--the package doesnt even have a place for it (pic below). so, sears being sears, they wanted to refund the item and place another order for it. i guess i should have let them do it since it would have been getting a better value in the long run (and because i have zero need for that bar) but i had to ask a few times for them to send just the pry bar instead. they finally did.

since the chisel set was one of the blow out deals i figure plenty of people ordered it, so if you did you can probably get a duplicate set by asking chat, or at least the missing bar or refund if you want it.

LOL, wow. When I was buying up all the chisels/punches (in smaller sets and individually) a couple years ago, I don't think the 12pc set even existed (the current product page says it was added in Feb 2018, and I didn't include it in the lists I made at the time of what was in each set to try to make sure I got everything). I mostly bought 3/5/6-piece sets (and some individually), and the only larger set at the time was the 16pc one (which was always way too expensive for me to consider). I see a few things on the list of what's in the 12pc set that I haven't been able to find individually or in my other sets, dang.

So, if it is such a relatively new set anyway, I'm thinking it never actually included the prybar, and somebody wrote the webpage based on a plan that got changed before it made it to the shelf (I'm guessing someone else decided the prybar was too awkward to include in the package).

Webpage says the 12pc set includes:
  1. 1/4" x 4" cold chisel #42971 - unavailable separately or in other sets
  2. 3/8" x 5" cold chisel #42972 - available separately
  3. 5/8" x 6" cold chisel #42974 - available separately
  4. 1/8" x 4 1/2" pin punch #42883 - available in a 6pc set, a 5pc set, and separately
  5. 5/32" x 5" pin punch #42884 - available in a 5pc set and separately
  6. 3/16" x 5" pin punch #42885 - available separately
  7. 1/4" x 5 1/2" pin punch #42886 - the extra-long 7 1/2" version is available in a 6pc set, but the 5 1/2" version seems to be unavailable separately or in other sets
  8. 1/32" nail set #37355 - unavailable separately or in other sets
  9. 2/32" nail set #37356 - unavailable separately or in other sets
  10. 3/8" x 4 1/2" center punch #42861 - available in a 6pc set and separately
  11. 16" pry bar #4283 - since this is not actually in the set, what was it replaced with in the set you received? (and btw, this is a $13 item normally when sold separately, that I've never seen more than 10% off!)
  12. "an alignment tool" - which one? - there is a 5/32" x 7" available separately and in a 5pc set, a 3/16" x 9" available separately and in a 6pc set, and a 1/4" x 12" one available separately

I hate to duplicate more than half the set (I had everything except the 16" prybar and the things I didn't know I could still get till they reappeared in this set), but now I might have to buy that set too, especially if I can get a prybar out of the chat people like you did too. Unfortunately they're saying it would take over a month to ship to my store!

the extra tool was listed as a ***** punch 3/8 x 4.5
and the alignment tool is the 5/32 x 7

i opted to ask for the pry bar initially thinking i could get them to sub one of the 17" strike cap bars, not realizing the 16" bar was actually available. normally i would have taken a refund back on my card, but i used a gift card on this and drained it and figured id lose it all.

i should have let chat send me the wrong set again--could probably have chatted again and asked for the 16" bar and still got it--but figured id be "nice" this time since they just sent me several freebies. i almost feel like im picking on a slow kid at this point. but $ is $ and im being honest with them so if im getting freebies thats on them not me.

Ha, nice, I think that ***** punch is another thing they don't sell separately anymore, don't have it on my list at all yet.

Correction: It is still available separately after all: https://www.sears.com/craftsman-3-8inch-x-4-1-2inch-*****-punch/p-00942841000P

I was curious about this as well. I ordered the clamp meter since I don't have one yet. For the multimeter, I was looking at the Craftsman Professional version. Seemed like a good deal, but then when you add shipping, it's basically the same price you can find them for on eBay.

In case you didn't know, for a clamp meter to be useful on plugged-in devices, you'll need an AC line splitter to go with it, unless you want to make a janky one by ripping apart an extension cord. :)

best option, $20: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001DPR0FE/?tag=atomicindus08-20
cheapest option, $10: https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=37973

(I don't have a clamp meter yet, but have looked into them several times over the years, and just refreshed my memory on these when I saw the Craftsman deal posted and added it to my 'maybe if I get really lucky' list.)

Thanks, hadn't thought of that. Makes sense. It would just show zero if you clamp around both wires of an AC cable, right?

The clamp meter is an exact match to an old Extech model, except for the colors and brand. So, I guess the multimeters can also be matched up to Extech models.

Yeah, separate the cord to clamp just one conductor, or use a line splitter.

i just realized there wasn't a replacement for the discontinued Craftsman AC line splitter.

My order arrived today. No packaging materials at all (bubble wrap, kraft paper, etc.), but all arrived undamaged.

The plastic tool box divider system was made in the U.S.A.

Looks like those two are the hardest-to-find things on your list. The first one is unavailable for home shipping and unavailable at any store in 100 miles of me; and the second one is unavailable for home shipping and only available at a Hometown store 97 miles away from me. (It is possible that some of these could still be at my store and they're just not allowing online orders for them, as we talked about earlier, but I don't think I've seen those in years.) So anybody who is interested in either of those tools and still has them available in your area, you should probably move them up on your list of what to buy next. :)

And BTW, a bunch of shovels/hoes/rakes are on sale for great prices too, but those are no longer carried at most of the Sears stores either from what I've seen, and they refuse to ship those because they're so long.

I was at this hometown store 45 min away from me (first time I have been to this particular store). This one has all kind of tools, and some of them are on sale, including shovels and rakes. I was in a hurry as I was meeting someone, so did not really have a good look at things. My point is even if you can not use points, some hometown stores may have things that is worth buying.

I guess they get smarter that they do not ship items that are long. I ordered a digging/pry bar a while back and they shipped it for free. This thing is probably 5 ft long and 20 lbs of solid steel - cant imagine it is cheap to ship :lol_hitti I can not find it anymore at the website
