Pines, no.

;)

Mac, I don't have the ambition to add a bay, all I have to do is remove the knuckle booms from OMO and Perk, then they will fit inside. The Hill is going to need a lot of work and unfortunately I do not think I will be able to complete it all before (read as if) I move. My major goal would be to get one truck running with a knuckle boom and back body fully functional. I am trying to figure a way to make Perk an automatic, but in order to use the engine I want, I should be using the larger transmission. However, I have found a factory ordered truck that had the same engine (higher horsepower) and the smaller automatic, this means that is is doable, but my guess is that they cut the GCVWR down to avoid destroying the transmission. I have one of the smaller ones, so I could use it, but swapping to the larger one later would be a ***** and it would mean I would have to redo driveshafts as far as I can tell, the bigger trans is longer. Regardless, I can make Perk usable without an auto, it just isn't what I want. OMO might be a better bet to start with since the powertrain is 100% and all I have to do is add tandem rear air ride. I know it won't be as simple as that, but I think it may be better for my sanity. Perk could be setup with a knuckle boom relatively quickly, then I would still have a truck to use, but without swapping the engine, it will smoke all the time.

I don't think I have any project that doesn't involve another project, I have been getting things streamlined a bit, but there is still enough work for a few years with a couple guys, except I am all by myself. :(

The whole reason I started this process was so I wouldn't need to borrow a truck when I needed to move something, I think I am halfway there, but the last half is going to be tough due to winter. Had I completely ignored the Hill and just moved forward, I would be a good three weeks ahead, but that isn't how I handled it. I feel like it was handled better than the house out back of the SG, that took up months of my time and cost me a lot of labor.

I am trying to just put tools away, looks like I have more than a few sockets that are MIA, hopefully I can find them in the mess. On a good note, things are looking a bit better.

I understand, if you can get them inside that easily, then it wouldn't be worth the expense and time of adding on.

I find myself paying for previous decisions, I was single up until 35 and got married 8 years ago, then almost 3 years ago had a kid. I honestly think I would have been on track to complete all of my huge projects before that. Now I wonder daily if I am going to get anything done before I die. Time seems to belong to others now. This summer a tornado hit our little town where my shop is and damaged it. It was the last straw that is forcing me to rethink the shop. I make a living out of it, but to be honest it has been terribly inefficient and no other excuse than I have drug too much stuff into the shop. Almost all of it is not really shop related but personal. I have been reconsidering the projects and am for the most part going back to where I started hobby wise with cars/trucks/bikes. I am getting rid of alot of projects as I realize they are just in the way to driving my truck I got when I was 14 and I want to take my daughter to kindergarten in it.
One of my projects includes putting a 9 spd roadranger behind a 5.9 cummins, so I have been getting familiar with SAE bellhousings, flywheel housings, clutches etc.
I'd suggest getting on pirate4x4 forum and in the tow rig section there is a guy that is NH that has been doing serious swap and fab work on the big truck stuff building multiples and has military trucks etc. I bet he would know off the top of his head how to get the combo you want. He goes by Grendel on there. Read the threads he has started and you will get an idea of what he plays with. In your situation, I'd even try to contact him and talk to him on the phone.

Cool info, I can relate to about everything you are dealing with, except the kid and tornado, I have tossed a few small projects, but I haven’t hit bottom yet. I expect that I will be scaling back the amount of trucks next year as some of these projects start to come together.

I just learned that the lunch I agreed to go to was tomorrow not next Sunday, so I guess the shop is not getting much attention tomorrow, probably none. Oh well, I promised the GF and it is her brother’s bday.

What really isn't funny is that for the first time that I can remember I had a phone call with my Dad and it felt uncomfortable, I just wanted to hang up. In fact, I think I just want to cry. He is right back to where we were before the wife got involved, acting like nothing is wrong. Also refused to let me in on the discussion of how the company should be set up for the future. He says that is part of the will and is none of my business, while I agree parts of the will are none of my business, the business end is. Talk about a slap in the face.

So far the only good thing about the day is that the dentist said my teef look great.

Oy vey. I hate to say it but your dad is unstable. I'd be looking to bail and do my own thing. Your life is too short to be under constant stress. And I say this as a guy who went through it with his own dad.

Sorry dude.

Come on down to Strouty's truck lot. We aren't a normal truck lot. No you won't leave here with a truck, you will leave without one. We are buying them cheap and stacking them deep.

I think I am just going to put my head down for a bit and just work, I am in a position where I can't abandon ship easily and things may turn out better, I just hate being in limbo, that is why I started working for myself. Right now it feels like I am spinning out of control and I don't like it.

Take your girlfriend out tonight and have a few drinks, and forget about work for a while!:thumbup:

Unfortunately that is not very easy to do. Of course there was a "misunderstanding" with the towing company, they went and got the truck without a secondary trip, so I am on the hook for almost $1300, that really *****, had budgeted $700 and hoped it was going to be less than that. On top of that, the rams from the Mitsu blade are going to be about $1600 to have rebuilt. I was just doing my budgeting too, Merry Christmas to me. :(

I also forgot that I agreed to buy the fire wood from the employee, so there is another $1000 too.

No shop today, going to get there early tomorrow and try and get a full day, probably the last nice day for a while, should be over 50 and looks like sunny all day.

Every time I check in here, I'm 5 or so pages deep in the Salvage Garage drama. Strouty, I have to admire you for continuing on with all the uncertainty going on. While I didn't work with my dad before he passed, I discovered he seldom, if ever, told me the truth about how things were going on his end. I know I could have been more supportive over his last 10 years and definitely less shocked when he told me the end was weeks away. Wishing you the best with this singsong business situation from your dad and stepmom. Hang in there!

Thanks guys, I wish there was less drama and more production. I figure I should have a better idea of what is going on by the beginning of 2020. Right now there is plenty to keep me busy, if I can wrap my head around things. I am figuring if the **** hits the fan, I will be on a 10 to 12 month exit strategy that keeps me feeling OK about the situation.

ok this might sound stupid....

Instead of keeping things in your head on what needs to be done, you ever think about writing a list out? Then you can prioritize the list...

I know it sounds so stupid but it works for quite a few people.

You have so many moving pieces, I need a scorecard.... speaking of which, do you know how hard it is for us to keep track of your goings on?

We are doing nothing, literally told my Stepmother no, we are doing nothing, she insisted, I said we are doing nothing. I think she got mad, don’t care, I didn’t lie.

Bought adult beverages and fun snacks.

I told my Dad that tomorrow I am not even answering my phone, (unless I want to), last good day of the year and I am taking advantage of it. Leaving the house about 6 AM and not returning until I feel like it. Bought food for lunch and dinner, did my errands today, I want to get several things done and I hope I can.

Well... I am not having Thanksgiving with the family either this year... we can surf GJ together... LOL... now that I scared you.

I will be a couch potato Thursday... Sometimes family drama isn't worth it. I was hoping you were able to work things out but … many of us have your back Strouty... so keep that chin up... eat well... drink responsibly... play fun games.

Every couple of years my wife and kids go to Virginia to visit her mom on Thanksgiving without me. I eat pizza, drink beer, and watch old movies. My kind of holiday.

My wife's family is like your guys. Glad my family is "normal". Yeah, we have fights that are EPIC, but we all know the bottom line is we're all a little jacked up and we love each other. Good luck.

Arrived at the SG about 6:30, having a snack now. As soon as I show up, I remembered 10 more things that need to be done. Going to prioritize before I start.

I have two pages already, this is scary, not all happening today for sure. I need to get some things gone, too much junk keeping me from doing projects. :(

In this instance, the projects are in the way of the trucks. Working on setting up the shelving in the new conex should allow me to make up some serious space. I went into the old conex, but it is a mess, everything that fell when I lifted it up is still a tangled mess. Will need to dive into that shortly. Going to use Bev to store all my tower related gear, seems like the best place since the back body was specifically created for that purpose. Should be able to fit almost everything.

I have been soaking things in evaporust and the stuff is coming out the other side great. I just put all the tools that were in Perk, they were very rusty, interested to see what they look like afterwards. Here are a couple pics of things.

My GF told me she was going out of town for a conference, two nights, I told her the cats were going to be really hungry when she got back. ;)

Making headway, almost have the second set of shelves assembled, I think I am just going to put them all together and have it done, then I don't have to worry about assembling them in the cold, some small 1/4 - 20 hardware that is a pain to get started, it is bad enough now, at least it isn't as hot as it was this summer.

In for lunch, then back to it. Got the shelving all assembled, at least all the brackets I have in stock. Should be good enough for this winter, not interested in buying more, especially since there is still a possibility I may be moving stuff to the Hill. I have a bunch of things ready to exit the shop as well. There are a few things I am hesitant about taking outside, but they are doing me no good taking up shop space and they can be covered and cleaned up if I decide to bring them back inside, just don't judge me over my decision, I am going to beat myself up for a while anyways.

I am a cat guy, I just knew saying it would get her going. She threatened to have her mother feed them.

Shuffling things now, found a bunch of stuff that belongs elsewhere and figured now was the time to do it. Hope to have stuff from the shop out in a couple hours, then I have to concentrate on the front area and putting big things away. Also found a couple pallets and other things that need a home before the snow. Good thing is it looks like Wednesday should be decent for at least the morning, so I will get another early start. Should be ready to go by Saturday in anticipation of some snow on Sunday into Monday. :(
