Also good luck with those overhead doors.

Thanks, I'm already thinking about the jig I need to make so I can install these doors by myself

Nice, nice, very nice!

Thanks Dan

When the wife shows up play time is over. Lol

I am sure she is ready to get it all done too.

Your right on the mark Willie

The place is looking great Mac. I'm happy for you that your build adventure is nearing the end and you can start the occupancy phase and setting things up.

Thanks Mike, I think the occupancy phase and setting things up will be just as much work and take twice as long, but I do look forward to it.

Sometimes it feels like it takes as much time to take all the knobs and pulls and screws out of their packaging as it does to install them !

They really do pack them good John.

Looking good Mac. Getting closer and closer to calling this home. Hope the CO gets signed off and there’s minimal punch list items.

Thanks Shorty, The punch list will be short because we have been keeping after things as they occur.

Next on the list is the actual move date. We have trucks and people standing by just waiting for the green light.

Mac, looking good.

It's the little things at the end that seem like forever.

On those doors, and I'm sure you're aware, but I have to say it anyway, be careful tensioning those springs.

I would think a few 2x8s across the forks on the skid steer would be plenty of support for the doors. Usually the door guys just have a crank lift with the forks no wider than a skid steers.

The roll ups in my shop just sit on top of angle brackets that are mounted to the wall.

Still a good challenge by yourself though.

Mac, at least you have a covered area in front of the shop to work on the truck.:dunno:

After a day of no joy on the truck I think I will move it under cover tomorrow when I get home from work and enter round 3 with the truck.

Still a good challenge by yourself though.

I'm always up for a challenge Craig, I might have to get a little creative on the door install.

So here is how today went down.

MY truck is still down for the count.

I started the day where I would have been last night if the truck hadn't died. I installed the water line for the fridge and pushed the fridge into the opening. Something was wrong, it didn't look right. I took out the little bubble stick that I had and it said that the fridge was plumb and that the cabinets were off. A tape measure at the top revealed that the tape measure on the bottom was 3/8" off.

I paid for premium cabinets and got a sub-par installation. I'm not worried, we are a day away from a CO and I made sure that the final payment was sufficient enough that I had good leverage to make things right.

The pics are of the the bubble stick on the fridge and on the cabinet.

As far as the truck is concerned, I spent the day replacing fuel hoses chasing an air leak with no success. I called my friend and he came over and immediately said that my issue was not fuel related but it was a wiring harness issue that was causing the ECM to go into limp mode. The truck starts right up fine on all 8 and immediately starts missing.

I can't afford another day off from work tomorrow so I put the charger on the bike and will ride to work in the morning and deal with the truck tomorrow evening.

The landscape crew showed up this morning and installed the irrigation system. 52 heads on 4 zones. They were in an out in about 5 hours.
The gutter guys showed up at lunch and put 6" gutters on the house and did a really nice job.

CO inspection is still on for tomorrow and Laura flies in on Saturday for a final walk through with the builders on Monday.

Mac, here’s a rigging idea to install roll up doors.

I think I'm short one bucket to rig it like that but I have pine logs that I can stand on end.

I’d approve that rigging.

Knowing that is the only reason I'll attempt it.

LOL!!!

Don't do this at home kids...

It only gets better, and here's how it went last night and today.

I got home last night and pulled the truck in the shop and set up my rocket light.
I couldn't see **** and I need my little HF step stool that is still in NJ so I can reach into the engine compartment.

I called my day job and told them that i would be in and work till noon and then head home to work on the truck in the daylight. I was tired and figured a night of rest would do me good........Wrong

At about 7:30 a straight truck with a Moffet on the back pulls in follow by an 18 wheeler loaded with 16 pallets of sod. They get the sod unloaded and about 8:30 are ready to leave. The truck is a brand new Freightliner with and automatic and traction control. I told the driver not to turn his front wheels unless the ruck was moving. He said he knew how to drive an didn't need me telling him how to do his job. He pulled up 30 feet and stopped to back up. Before backing up he turns the front wheels and he immediately sunk in the soft ground. He got out of the truck and asked what he should do, I said I don't know, your the driver and walked away.

I came back with the Bobcat and hooked up the the truck and pulled him backwards until he could move on his own. All he had to do was drive forward and make a gradual turn to get on the hard packed road. He turned his front wheels before moving and promptly gets stuck again. I hook up to him again and pull him all the way to the road and he drives away without a thank you for saving my ***. I finished up with the stupid trucker about 9:30.

I left work at noon to come home and work on the truck. When I get home the sod crew is there along with Jerry. They ask me if I can move the pallets of sod to where they will be needed and I agreed to help.

On the way home I stopped at HF and got another stool so I can work on my truck. I took the connector off every injector, cleaned it, coated it with di-electric grease, and put it all back together. It took me about 2 hours to do it and the truck fired right up and runs like a top. I drove it 30 miles tonight with no issues.

Tomorrow I get to work on the overhead doors after work.

Some people just can't understand things.

Years back I worked security at a construction site in teh middle of nowhere. They were building a chip mill on an old dairy farm. It rained for 9000000 days in a row so the site was basically 75 acres of mud with about a 9 foot deep gravel driveway. They kept putting gravel down til it stopped sinking. At night the truck drivers would pull in and park to one side of the driveway and wait til morning to get unloaded. It was nothing to have about 20 trucks parked.

One night a trucker pulled in and figured he was smarter than everyone else, and drove past all the parked trucks, right off the end of the driveway and sunk about door handle deep in the mud. The site manager told him they would pull him out with the heavy equipment since they had a dozer and a crane on site, but they would not be responsible for any damage. He said no, I want to be unloaded immediately so it will be easier to pull out empty, and I will call a wrecker. They told him to go pound sand and proceeded to unload everyone else. He contacted a tow company, they told him it would be about $4k to come to BFE and pull him out.

He came back, hat in hand, and asked them to pull him out. They still made him wait til last. Then it took the crane and three dozers to get him out. No damage to his truck though.

The grove is looking good Mac and I'm glad you got the truck sorted out. Were the injector connections corroded or something?

Congrats on sod and a running truck!

Neighbor across the street was bringing his POS rig home at night and parking it in his driveway. He would then proceed to start it at 4:30 AM and idle it for 20 minutes, waking up everyone within 4 houses.
I finally called the village to complain about semi trucks being illegal to park in residential neighborhoods. The guy on the phone basically told me to pound sand, gotta stand up for the working man, ya know?
I then said, ya know what really pisses me off? The village just recoated our street and this guy backs in the driveway by coming to a complete stop, and then grinding the steer wheels into the fresh asphalt.
He's only snuck the rig into the neighborhood about twice in the 7 years since then.

Laura is here and WE worked on the shop today.
I spent the better part of the afternoon mounting the tracks and hardware for the first roll up door. I used the pallet the doors came on to lift the door up into place. I lifted the door up and Laura was my eyes directing me on what to do.

When she said it was good, I got out of the bobcat and went up in the man lift, the door was in the perfect position for me to but the bolts in and lock it in place. But for me to get the last bolt in, Laura had to get in the bobcat to lower the pallet to give me the wiggle room.

I should get the other door done in way less than half the time it took me to do the first one, the installation instructions are not the greatest.

I'm going to have to do a little fabrication for some mounting plates to get the openers installed.

I applaud you on ensuring the doors were safely secured to the Bobcat with 2x4s. [emoji16][emoji16][emoji16]
Looking good and will be nice keeping the ***** and possums out.

With the cold weather bet you’re enjoying having your bride here.

All you lack now is finishing. Looking good.

We're close to being done with phase one Willie

I'd NEVER let my wife on a bobcat while I'm in the same county. :shocking:

It's scary at first but you get used to it

After the first lift, I realized that I had to tilt the forks back further than I felt comfortable with just 2x4s and added some angle iron. I'm sure you would approve from a safety standpoint.

Here's were we're at in Honu Grove.

We have a CO and I have meeting with the builder on Monday where I give him the final payment (less a holdback until the kitchen cabinet issue is resolved) and he gives me the keys (which I already have) to my new house.

The next 14 days are going to be crazy. I fly back to NJ on Tuesday. I have hired labor to load the rental tuck. I drive the rental truck back to Florida and have hired labor to unload the truck. I fly back to NJ and supervise and participate in the shop load out on the flat bed truck. As soon as I finish the load out, I fly back to Florida to meet the truck and an unload it into the new shop building that is not finished.

I have the next few days to get the roll up doors operational. I]m gong to nee d a little vacation when I'm done with this move.

I still have about 14 days of running at full bore before I can think about a little rest.

I got home from work this afternoon and got both roll up doors aligned and operational. I really didn't think that I would get the doors done until Sunday afternoon so I have some extra time to get a few things done before I have to leave on Tuesday.

I have 3 benches, my layout table, and my roll around tool box stuffed in the house garage. I will get all that moved into the shop tomorrow. The Cobalt tool box that I got from Lowes before I left NJ will get moved from the container into the house garage and it will become Laura's tool box to do whatever she wants with it.

Since I have two full days before I fly back to NJ I hope to get the rest of the trim done on the shop. The rental on the man lift is killing me, I would have been much better off buying a man lift and then selling it after I was done. I still might buy a man lift when I recover from this whole ordeal.

Hit a major milestone today.....The house is officially done and I have taken possession from the builder. I wrote the final check with a little hold back for an I owe you that they still have to finish.

The builder started work on August 10, 2019 and we took possession of the house today, less than 6 months later. This was the first time we ever built a new house and we are very pleased with what we got for the effort. I always hear horror stories about people having a home built but this build was very smooth with very little bumps along the way. Accurate communication is key to a build where everyone is happy.

I think the fact that I was living on site in an RV, along with having a great project manager made the whole build go as smooth as it did. Laura and I did some major upgrades and had a bunch of change orders, but we also did a lot of sweat equity and in the end we came in under the contract price. Our builders were two brothers, an office manager, two project managers, and a top shelf line up of great sub contractors. We interviewed several builders before making a choice and are really happy with who we chose to build our house.

I got a fair amount of work done on the shop in the last 2 days. I have better than half of the trim on the building done. I have two more sections of gutter, two outside corner trim pieces, and 8 downspouts to install and then the outside of the shop building is done.

The household move is this week and the shop machine move is next week.
We'll just have to see how it goes.
