Does any one have any parts for a Wilton C 101169

Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk

J.Y.D.:
That incomplete Wilton you have is know as a “C1”
They’re great vises. I have one on my workbench as a user and another one all prettied up and awaiting a buyer. Sorry, I don’t have any extra parts.

Smitty:
Another monster to add to your collection. Nice score! Are you thinking any more about getting that hoist? :)

Haven't bought a vise in a few years, then my white whale turned up :) Won't get a chance to look at it properly till this evening.
(The swivel base is back to front )
Parkinsons No 8 Swivel Jaw on pallet.jpg

Glad to see that in good hands - (I saw it and pondered?) --- Swivel-bases are rare enough in the 'classic' English vices, but a large Parky in 'good nick' with swivel jaws, swivel base and quick release -- as you say -- your Moby ****. Can't beat that in UK.

What can you look for now? --- a baby Swinden? or a W------- (not telling, as I want to spot it).

Don't see many of those Aurora's around in any model.---I don't know why.---They rarely pop up.---They're kind of like the Woonsocket Simplex.---They must not have been turning many out in those particular plants.:dunno:

Morgan Vise Co. was barely moved into their Aurora plant (1968), before they were acquired by the Milwaukee Tool and Equipment Co. in 1972. It wasn't long after, that all of the operations were moved to Milwaukee. So, the Morgan Aurora vises would be kinda scarce.

Here's a photo of the former Aurora plant, as it stands today.

Good info Fierljeppen.---I have just one that says Aurora.---I missed a mint Aurora #289 1/2 for $500.00 about 10 years ago, which seemed outrageous at the time but now not so much.---Wished I had a time machine.---Now I would double that and not think twice.

My #4 1/2 Star.

Anyone have any knowledge about this vise? It’s listed on Marketplace and looking at I’m thinking it’s kind of rare. I have never seen one like it.

from memory looks very like an English Entwistle and Kenyon woodworkers rack and cam quick release patented 1878, but may be an American version (forgotten the licensee)
careful if buying as there may be a loose half nut that can easily go missing
The English version was only made for a short while, then both it and its competitor (earlier patent by a few weeks) Syers, stopped producing (Parkinsons slightly later QR took the market).
They also did an an engineering bench vice (vise), with same QR.

Reed 104 - Gun Blue Experiment done:
- Birchwood Caseys Super Blue (Liquid Gun Bluing)
- BLO top coat
- Sanded down raises letters to bare metal
- Polished all bare metal areas
- Greased

I love the way it turned out, wonder if I would have gotten a similar look with rust converter & BLO. Before pictures from when I picked it up. Let me know what you think!

Rock island vise no. 544B it has 6” jaws and weighs in at 205 lbs. This is by far the biggest combo vise I have. It’s really going to be a challenge to clean this vise up as it’s spent some time outdoors.f5a1eabebc39c8d770922bc5a0a2b814.jpg1d635e5dec8420910a0bf65fd774d082.jpg738e37c6fd91a25a9b6c6835fe508d06.jpg

Took a leisurely drive today to a neighboring town because, well I couldn't not buy this Wilton 745 Mechanics vise for $20.

It's definitely a standout amongst my vise collection but seems pretty stout and well built. Certainly not abused as it's in very good condition and the jaws are crisp. Best part is I finally found a Wilton to use one of my Snap-on badges on.02036649feff6446501349ff162efced.jpg3c719a0dbed5f5e6d04df7f0cf37d995.jpg2dc25b2aace53c0915f6376a776929f0.jpg

Wow Smitty. A great score at any price! The only other RI 544B I've seen is the one Kevin restored. Ever time I run across a saved pic of it I'm reminded how much I need a 6" combo vise in my collection! Where did you find this one?

Chris

Nice vise Smitty. Like Chris mentioned I had one, I have a drawing of the Pipe Jaws and the geometry on how I made them if you know someone that has a Bridgeport type mill. PM me and I'll send you the drawing and the geometry. Remember the jaws are the same as a RI 577.

Thanks I really appreciate it, you’re so generous with your hard earned knowledge. Combo vises seem to be used harder than most but this one seems to be in fairly good condition. Everything function properly and there aren’t a lot of hammer marks on it. I’m not sure I can get it as clean as your restoration but with your help I might be able to get close. Pipe jaws and a set of 6” jaws would really help restore this vise to its former glory
I’ve found something really interesting for the spreadsheet, I’ll post pics in the next couple of days.

Chris & Smitty great vises and prices for both of you!
You two unintentionally rubbed salt in my vise wound today. Picked up a Athol 624N and a Yost 4 1/2" this morning; the Athol was covered pretty deeply in dirt and grime so spent most of the time putting it through the usual tests. The Yost was really clean, jaws almost new, crisp corners, etc so just a quick visual once of over for that one.
Wrong move...got the Yost home and the screw is bent :(. The Athol pic is after 30 mins of scrubbing but at least it works fine. Every so often the brain just goes zzzzzzzzzzzz

Smitty you hit the nail on the head, my shelves are full and had that same thought yesterday. have a bench full of overflow now and it's starting to look a bit like a hoarder. Time for a garage sale so I can 'repurpose' another shelving unit!

RB- LOL this table use to be the home of a large arbor press and that's the opening for the ram to push stuff through. someone else bought the press but didn't want the table so I lugged it to the basement (3/4"steel top).

For contrast to Smitty’s recent post, may I offer these before and after pics of my Millers Falls clamper. Jaws a bit short of 2 1/2 inches wide. (Clamp portion not shown)

Original paint, grease, sawdust and generally unidentifiable crud removed by an overnight soak in Simple Green warmed in my crock pot followed by a quick rinse and gentle brushing under running water.

Hey there! Here’s the vise I recently picked up and gave a little make over to.
Columbian 604-1/2 I believe.

Hi Everyone,
Here's a few photos of 2 vices that I've refurbished lately - one is a Fortis offset QR and the other is an American Scale No 77. The 77 needed new jaws and a new swivel pin as the previous owner had tried hammering it in.

Nice - especially that Fortis.

Looks like a fancy and big woodworking bench - you made it I guess - do I see a pattern-makers peeping?

Hi DannyR,
Yes - I made the bench and yes, that’s a patternmaker’s vice on one end. On the other end are 2 wagon vices but you can’t see them in the first photo.
Must tidy the workshop.

I saw one on Ebay (very briefly) in your area so am assuming its that one, price was pretty reasonable IMO especially considering the very rare swivel base. That makes 3 of those known on here I think mine is the roughest of the 3.

I did manage to snag a seized Parkinson 7 1/2" swivel base milling vice recently for £50 which is both quite rare and also going to be very useful on the big pillar drill.

WOW that is an awesome bench. Did you fabricate the legs out of steel? What leveling casters did you use? Do you like them? I am getting ready to make a butcher block workbench top and I have a stash of Ash and Walnut. I was thinking about combining it to be unique but you beat me to it! Nice job!!

Hi Dave,
Thanks - yes, I made the base out of steel and the top out of re-cycled mahogany and maple. That was the wood I had on hand so that's how the bench came out. Essentially it's a split-top Roubo that did not require a workshop of professional machines to make.
Castors are by Footmaster - I wanted something that would allow me to both move the bench when I need and for it to be solid when being used. Locking them is not instant but I am happy with them.
Ash and walnut would look great - go for it! If you do, I suggest you make the top at least 3" thick if only to allow the use of holdfasts - they are fantastic. (I use the Lie-Nielsen ones).

Was wondering what finish you used on the wood in the work bench you made, especially on the top surface?

I found this little Starrett no. 923C it has 3” jaws and weighs in at 33 lbs. This vise is in great condition but it has enough paint issues to make me want to take it down to a natural finish.4c7121325913783202652b9f7e08c2ab.jpgb4ca26ce4d22eac3c9baa7081d5cebd6.jpg5696b25301be3fe99f54ca874137f1c6.jpg

Nice 923 Smitty. That 544b was pretty sweet too! Why do you add the “C” after the number on the Starretts?
