I'd say the swivel head ratchet.

Once again outlaw beat me to it. That swivel head and this other one were tied for my guess. Isn’t the selector lever on this one rare? I’ve only seen one of them in the wild. (I bought it for a dollar and sold it for a lot more)

I’m no craftsman expert but...

(I found this on the Alloy Artifacts site.)

The Flying V ratchet is not particularly rare but not common either. A lot of them were damaged due to the high profile selector and were warranties out. The flex head is not rare but not common either. You did well!

Smashed tool box and assorted screws with tin of cotter pins was picked some time in January from my favorite dumpster.
I have spent some time with the sledge getting the box back in to a box shape. It was completely folded in and unable to pivot at the hinge. It will eventually go in the trailer to hold straps/chains etc.

Shiftless,
Here in the deep south, at what is admittedly a small flea market, I have found a couple of the v selector ratchets. However they are not in nearly as good condition as the one included in the Craftsman box. I bought the box for the flex head, but the V ratchet was icing on the cake.

I kind of, sort of collect Craftsman =V= marked stuff. Mostly because my first toolbox was bought for me by my mom and stepdad for my 12th birthday and was filled with those tools (1964). I still have the Craftsman 1/2 RHFT ratchet and most of the sockets from that first box.

Everyone still going to garage sales must be in areas COVID-19 hasn't really hit yet. It's coming...

So last Saturday, with the Governor set to shut down the state in a few hours and me already missing the fleas, the girlfriend and I hit an Estate Sale. My score: Stanley 50 with blades, wooden german style plane without a blade, and a glazier's chisel. I've picked up every blade without a plane I've seen for years so the missing blade probably won't be an issue. $12 damage. Bought girlfriend got a Hoosier cabinet for considerably more.View media item 101962

Good eye outlaw. A giant pair of end cutters, two Wright sockets, an old unbranded doe, and a strange hand press thing.

You know the scenario...You see an ad pop up for some tool related stuff. You go to check out one item in the ad that MIGHT be worth the trip. It turns out to be nothing of interest but then you spy that thing of great interest. Is it for sale? The seller says probably but that he needs to go through it to see what's in it. Also, he needs to figure out what it's worth. But he says give him your name and number and he'll call you in a few weeks. Yeah. Ok. Sure.

Got a text yesterday afternoon from a retired dentist with four pics of a wooden machinist chest I had looked at a couple of weeks ago. I had actually forgotten about the toolbox(es) and tools. Yay! Along with the pics he texted me a fair price for the wooden machinist chest, a Kennedy top chest and a Kennedy 2-dr chest base. When I saw the wooden chest previously it was full of machinist tools and I noticed a lot of Starrett boxes among them. He let me know the boxes were empty of tools. :0( We set a time for me to go over yesterday evening. When I arrived he had the toolboxes sitting up front in his hangar. He's also got a small box sitting on a table next to them. The box has got some machinist tools in it. These are the leftovers. He threw them in for $10 which was actually a nice gesture.

I think the wooden machinist chest was made by Star but I still need to do some research. I know nothing about the company. I will move the Kennedy boxes down the road. I need to go through the box of tools. Pics to follow of the tools in the cardboard box.

pfaustus: Great score on the Stanley No 50! I would LOVE to come across one of those in the wild! You ****! ;0)

Brian: Nice score on the CM tool chest. I was catching all kinds of grief yesterday from SWMBO for going to get the toolboxes I posted above. The whole county here is on a stay-at-home order but I'm sure somewhere in the fine print going to pick up vintage tools & toolboxes is approved.

The leftover tools (starting bottom left corner) I bought in addition to the 3 toolboxes consist of: Starrett tubular inside micrometer No 823, Starrett TBD?, unmarked "made in usa" mm ignition wrenches, 2 small c-clamps, set of 27 Boyer-Campbell alphabet (and "&") 1/16" stamps, aluminum advertising level, Brown & Sharpe protractor (Prov, RI), J.T. Slocomb Co. micrometer (also Prov. RI), Craftsman dividers, Sears 608.5124.2 Made in Germany drafting set, Lufkin No 77A radius gage set (1/32-17/64), Lufkin No 77B radius gage set (9/32-1/2) and Heller "Swiss Pattern" files. Really like the 1/16" alphabet punches. There were also a fistful of small fine files. Not bad for $10. What do you call the era of Craftsman represented by the logo on the dividers (last pic)? It almost looks like long C but it isn't underlining the rest of the logo.

Thanks Outlaw, bmw! I want to make it clear I paid $10 for the tools. The toolboxes were ALOT more. :)

In terms of your question about that craftsman logo, it started in the 30’s and ran into the 50’s depending on the tool. Looks to be 40’s isometric logo to me, but the experts will chime in

One of my good friends picked this up at a pawn shop for me, for 7 bucks. Works damn smooth too.

I've never seen a figure or letter set that small. I have several, with the smallest being 1/8". Wartime sets were 1/8", 3/16", 3/8" and 1/2". Nice find! That could come in very handy.

Well, between us, we have the entire Lufkin radius gage line! :) I have a Lufkin No 77C radius gage set in the same maroon hammered vinyl pouch. Found and reported here back on the 2018 thread. Link to dedicated thread with catalog pics here.

A teaser from a sale I hit today
I'm curious if people are commingling the same as before (as if there is no pandemic going on...) or what, Beemer? Same question for you, Tex? Are people staying away from each other? Wearing latex gloves? Letting only a few people in at a time? How are these "sales" still happening? I've been itching to get out to one of my fleas (like today, like right now as I am typing this, in fact), guessing that people are ignoring the orders, but it's too many people ignoring the orders that I am worried about. On a normal day it would be impossible to keep a safe distance from people and not even the width of the tables wold keep the sellers safe distance away from me.

In terms of your question about that craftsman logo, it started in the 30’s and ran into the 50’s depending on the tool. Looks to be 40’s isometric logo to me, but the experts will chime in
I don't consider myself an expert, but you are correct. Sounds counterintuitive, but the classic underline logo is not the only logo they used in the "Underline C" era. There's also a sort of half-assed underline where the C only goes under the r. But, unless the logo pushes back against your hand or thumb when you're holding that caliper, I am pretty sure you meant to type geometric, not isometric! :)

As far as sales going on, I think people are assessing what is going on in there area and the particular sale. Some people wear gloves (rubber or not) much like cashiers at grociery stores do, but some don't. The sales are often under a gun, so to speak. The property has been sold and there is a set date to get this stuff out. This one was in open barns and sheds, was pretty sparsly attended and frankly looked worth it. I didn't go at opening time so as not to be waiting around a bunch of other people so I could social distance. But, they said in the listing that if too many people showed up at once they would take numbers and have people wait in their cars and would text them when their turn was up. That was unnecessary when I got there.

On a personal level, I take an immuno suppressant drug, I am not a young guy (49) but I don't live in a hot spot. I follow the news (and virus reports) very closely, and this sale was worth it to me and others, while also looking safe enough. I flea market, on the other hand, would be a bit risky, especially that close to NYC. (Or SF, LA, NO etc.) Too much jostling and not enough distance. But, that said, I used to go to a flea on rainy days, and while there might only be a handful of sellers, I often made great scores as there was almost no one else looking.

I’m expecting PA to go more stringent today, cancelling/delaying a private opportunity to pick a household previously planned for tomorrow that has been on my radar for months - sigh - timing, timing.
I’m keeping myself entertained by going through tools I gave my son a year or two ago, which came home with him last week. They’ve been living in a damp basement all that time and need some TLC. Plus, a few have disappeared - probably lying around his rental house.

Oddly enough, my son is sitting alone in a house in Philly right now, as his roommates have decamped to NJ. Can't go out, his girlfriend is in west MA with her family (she fled NYC...), work is on a slow down. Talk about bored.

I’ve been going through my garage cleaning tools. I’m getting real good at taking apart and greasing all kinds of ratchets. I have a small mountain of stuff ready to go...... Jakes flea market was supposed to open on the 4th but it’s officially postponed until further notice!

Lugz, Here in Travis County (Austin) the population is over 1.2M. Last Sat we had confirmed cases in the low 60s by Mon it had increased by 50% to low 90s. We are now at 137 confirmed cases. Tue at midnight the county and city went on a stay-at-home order. That's in place until April 13. I read this morning about the first death in Central Texas with the death of a New Braunfels man in his 40s. I think by and large people are taking this seriously. I have not been seeing any estate/garage sales advertised. I went to Costco and the grocery store on Tue. There were a few people who seemed completely oblivious to social distancing. I actually was wearing a new dust mask from the shop and latex gloves while I was out.

I hope everyone takes the COVID-19 seriously. No possession is worth risking your health, your life, or your family. This certainly isn't the killer like past pandemics in human history but it's unprecedented in my lifetime and in my parent's generation.

Oddly enough, my son is sitting alone in a house in Philly right now,
Last month I had 1 kid (a son, #5 of 5) at home, a junior in HS. Now I have 4 at home! LOL. Oldest daughter (kid #2) didn't want to be stuck in her apt in Brooklyn, so she came home. Ditto kid #3 (son). Kid #4 (daughter) is home from college. Only kid not home is 32YO son in the Army. I was almost an empty nester, now all of a sudden I feel like I'm a 40 year old dad again!

I hope everyone takes the COVID-19 seriously.
Amen.
